2. DEFINITION
โ Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is an anxiety
disorder that is characterised by excessive
uncontrollable and irrational worry about everyday
things.
โ GAD is a common chronic disorder characterised by
long-lasting anxiety that is not focused on any one
objects or situation.
3. โ The usual age of onset is variable from childhood to late adulthood,
with median age of onset approximately 31 years.
โ Women are 2-3 times more likely to suffer from GAD than men.
โ GAD is also common in elderly population.
4. CAUSES
โ GENETICS
โ BRAIN CHEMISTRY : GAD has been associated with abnormal levels of
certain neurotransmitters in the brain.
โ ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS : Trauma and stressful events such as,
abuse, death of a loved one, divorce, changing jobs or schools may lead
to GAD.

9. TREATMENT
Treatment may include counselling and medication such as antidepressants.

management.
