Subj: RECOMMENDATION FOR MR. RAY VALENZUELA
Committee Member,
It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Valenzuela for admission to
your prestigious program.
Ray served in the Marine Corps for nearly 13 years and most
recently served in my command here at the School of Infantry at Camp
Pendleton. The School of Infantry is the Marine Corps'largest school,
comprised of 64 separate courses, training over 19,000 students
annually with a range in experience from entry-level through senior
non-commissioned officer. It is a complex organization comprised of
over 1,200 instructors and staff. Thank you for allowing me to explain
how Ray was an instrumental and successful part of this immense
organization.
Being a Marine is not a safe occupation; it is dangerous during
training and most certainly in combat. Despite this, the Marine Corps
does not have a recruiting problem. We have a very strong draw from
the United States because we promise to mitigate the high risks
associated with belonging by providing our Marines with the best
leadership, training and equipment to maximize their chance to be
successful in high risk situations. The 1,200 instructors here at the
School of Infantry are the cornerstone of that promise. Each
instructor here is hand-picked from throughout the Marine Corps. They
are given extra pay, promotion opportunities, and other benefits for
their assignment here. Their training to become an instructor is
rigorous and is provided by eight Marines that I personally select for
their demonstrated excellence in leadership and understanding of our
· mission. The selection of these eight Marines is my most important
task.
Ray is one of those eight Marines who are the very best at what
we do. He is engaging, smart, tireless, caring and genuine. He is
among the very best Marines with whom I have served in 25 years of
active duty.
I encourage you to accepting Ray into your Spring Leadership
Program and he will quickly show you the value of his membership. If I
can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to
contact me at Christopher.j.williams@usmc,mil or 760.725.7208.
