Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Mr. Sidney Cherenfant
for promotion to the position of Second Radio
Electronics Technician (Announcement 14-220-0lMP) .
This letter is written to provide a reference of Mr Sidney
Cherenfant's work ethic and dedication to his command.
I have served with Mr. Cherenfant onboard USNS KANAWHA for
approximately 5 years. While not assigned directly to my
department, I have observed Mr. Cherenfant on a daily basis
in the performance of his duties as Steward Utility. His work
performance and personal attributes have been nothing less
than outstanding. He is always working hard and is extremely
helpful in providing services to the crew.
Mr. Cherenfant is always dressed sharply in the proper
Steward Utility uniform. He takes great pride in
accomplishing every task assigned to him. He consistently
keeps his assigned work spaces such as Officer Staterooms,
Mess Decks, Ship's Laundry, and Ship's Passageways clean and
in "inspection ready'' condition at all times. His attention
to detail and his positive "can do" attitude have made him a
very valuable member of the KANAWHA's Food Service
Department. His reputation to excel in all assignments has
also carried outside Supply Department. During Underway
Replenishment Evolutions he is assigned to key positions such
as Signalman and Telephone and Distance Line, jobs which are
usually assigned to more experienced Deck Department
personnel.
Mr. Cherenfant's dedication to duty and support of his chain
of command has gained the confidence of his superiors and
respect of his peers. He has become a mentor and role
model to his fellow Steward Utility co-workers. His
enthusiasm for excelling at his job often motivates his peers
to perform better in their tasks as well. Some elements which
remain the same whether in Food Service Department or
Communications Department are customer service, competence
and professionalism. I have personally observed him
demonstrating those qualities daily aboard this vessel.
7. Mr. Cherenfant expressed his interest to me to become a
Radio Electronics Technician when I first met him 5 years
ago. Over the years, he has spent many off-duty hours in
Radio Central receiving on the job training. Mr Cherenfant is
ever ready to accept more responsibility. His self motivation
to learn combined with his dedication to contributing to
command mission will make him a great asset to any Ship's
Communications Department.
Very Respectfully,
Nicholas Petrone
