Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Charles “Lenny” Schilter
To: ITMA
Please accept my strongest recommendation for Charles Schilter to receive an International
Transportation Management Association Scholarship. I have had many opportunities over the last three
years to observe Lenny in our Corps and he has been a standout performer in his outfit, and with the
Corps of Cadets, as the Company Commander of V2. He did a superior job as one of our Company
Commanders, and I would rank him in the top 5 % of his Cadet Class, based upon his grades and his
leadership performance.
When Cadet Charles Schilter tackled a project, he was well organized and clearly articulated
what work needed to be done in a clear and systematic manner. He demonstrated this on a
daily basis as he was an one of the best Cadet Boatswains I have seen. Additionally, he is a
tremendous role model for the younger Cadets and his maturity and judgment sets him well
ahead of many other Cadets in the Corps. His other accomplishments include receiving the
coveted Eagle Scout Award, selected as the Cadet Boatswain of the USTS General Rudder,
Executive Officer for V Company, and working off campus in the local marina.
It is a real pleasure knowing/working with Cadet Schilter during his time here with the Corps of Cadets
and without any reservations I am pleased to recommend him for your Scholarship. Lenny has proven
he will be a future leader in any endeavor he chooses and will definitely make a fine officer in the US
Merchant Marine Service. Unequivocally, I give him my highest recommendation to receive your
scholarship. Thank you.
