This document summarizes a student project on the importance and potential of organic agriculture in Kailali District, Nepal. The project involved interviews with organic farmers, surveys of crops grown, and data collection on production levels. Key findings include that lemon grass, mushrooms, and silk farming show potential as organic crops. Challenges to wider adoption include the need for more technical support, organized markets, and promotion by the government. The project concludes that organic agriculture brings benefits and interest is growing, but research, information, and marketing need further development.

7. Introduction
"Organic Agriculture is a production system that
sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and
people. It relies on ecological processes,
biodiversity and cycles adapted to local
conditions, rather than the use of inputs with
adverse effects.
Organic Agriculture combines tradition,
innovation and science to benefit the shared
environment and promote fair relationships and a
good quality of life for all involved."
8. There are many explanations and definitions for organic
agriculture but all converge to state that it is a system that
relies on ecosystem management rather than external
agricultural inputs.
It is a system that begins to consider potential environmental
and social impacts by eliminating the use of synthetic inputs,
such as synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, veterinary drugs,
genetically modified seeds and breeds, preservatives,
additives and irradiation.
9. Objective
To acknowledge people about the importance and benefit of
organic agriculture.
To aware people about the bad effect of inorganic agriculture.
To save peoples from different disease and problems that arises
due to inorganic agriculture.
To increases the fertility of soil .
To inspire the organic movement with organic agriculture.
To share and update the status of agriculture development
strategy.
To provide platform to the stakeholder with common ground to
identify policy interventions, good practices and research and
development interventions for organic agriculture promotion.
10. IMPORTANCE of Organic Farming:
1.Principle of Health: Organic agriculture must contribute to the
health and well being of soil, plants, animals, humans and the earth. It
is the sustenance of mental, physical, ecological and social well being.
2.Principle of Fairness: Organic farming provides good quality of life
and helps in reducing poverty. Natural resources must be judiciously
used and preserved for future generations
3.Principle of Ecological Balance: Organic farming must be
modeled on living ecological systems. Organic farming methods must
fit the ecological balances and cycles in nature.
4.Principle of Care: Organic agriculture should be practiced in a
careful and responsible manner to benefit the present and future
generations and the environment.
5. In survey sample and studies we have found to organic technique are
harmless and eco-friendlily.
6. Organic agriculture sustain and enhance the health of soil, plants,
animals and human beings.
11. Possibilities of oraganic Agriculture
in Kailali District :
1. Kailali district cover the total land area of 3235sq.km About
248976 hec. Of the total land is cultivatable and 79.8% people are
engaged in agriculture.
2. Different food crops as well as other crops such as paddy pulses
mustard etc are produced.
3. There is extensive potential for the production of different crops
for horticulture like banana, lichee etc.
4. Cash crops like sugarcane, ginger, Elaichi etc.
5. There are some examples of organic farming and products that
got popularity in domestic as well as international market such as
mushroom, lemon grass, honey etc.
6. Different org. have been working in there own way to increase
organic farming in our district.
12. Problems of Organic Farming
1. It takes a whole lot of hard work to successfully grow crop
organically.
2. Comparatively low production than inorganic agriculture.
3. Organic foods in the market have higher price.
4. Large quantities of organic inputs are required.
So it is Difficult to get organic fertilizer.
5. Unorganized market for organically grown produce.
6. Less Government effort to propagate.
7. Lack of equipment used in organic agriculture.
13. Solution of the problems:
People should be aware about the disadvantage of
inorganic agriculture .
Different programs through different media like news
paper , t.v should be implemented.
Different laws should be implemented effectively to
decrease inorganic agriculture.
People should be awarded by different offers to them
who perform their production through organic
agriculture.
14. Methodology:
1. Interview :
We visited the lemon grass farming in Saule, Attariya
and Manera, Dhangadhi for mushroom cultivation.
We interviewed the people about the people and
production of their respective product. We came to
know that the production is really benefit able which
helps in the social and economic development of their
own as well as the society.

22. Lemon Grass Agriculture not
Adopted on Large Scale In Kailali
Cause of low adoption:
1. The benefit of Lemon Grass farming is not seen immediately.
2. Large quantities of organic inputs are required.
3. Difficult to get organic fertilizer.
4. Unorganized market for organically grown produce.
5. Less Government effort to propagate.
6. Scientific research and technical support to farmer is also scare .
23. 2. Mushroom cultivation in
Kailali
Mushroom farming in Kailali going popular between Kailali
farmers its new farming concept on the contest of Kailali as well as
NEPAL.
Few years ago wild mushroom has been collected and accepted
(eating) socially and culturally by certain ethnic groups nobody
farming it but now days due to urbanization and awareness, when
people knows the health benefit of mushrooms they started using
widely.
Mushrooms are edible fungus we are growing mushrooms indoors
and supply in the markets.
Farmers are cultivating mushroom year round in natural
environment different variety like Shitake, oyster, red mushroom
in Kailali.
24. .
There are many health benefits of mushroom like
prevention of cancer, diabetes and tumors, It keep
immune system healthy and strong and boost heart
health. Mushrooms are low in calories, fat-free,
cholesterol-free and very low in sodium, yet they
provide important nutrients, including mineral,
calcium, vitamin D, copper, potassium, protein, iron
and phosphorous.
Before starting mushroom farming it is necessary to
know the technical knowledge about how to grow
mushrooms and farm management system

31. Recommendation
Government should make concrete polices on organic
agriculture, specially Gov. should focus on the
implementation of it.
Organized market for organically grown produce.
Preference to consume organic food should
established.
Government effort to propagate organic agriculture.
Scientific research should be done widely.
Government should develop and make mandatory
organic cirrulum at level of education.
32. Conclusion:
Organic agriculture craze is rapidly growing in popularity,
but in fact, organic farming has been always in Nepal
forever.
Organic produce is different from normal produce in a
wide variety of ways, but not all of these differences are
very significant at all. There are indeed several challenges
and constraints ahead due to the lack of research,
information and marketing . In general, the indicators are
positive and satisfactory. Enhanced capacity on organic
agriculture policy guidelines, technologies and practices,
certification process and fostered market links at district
and community level are some of the successful initiation
taken by project.
