Programmer/Developer/Business Systems Analyst/Data Analyst
Quincy, MA
August 1995 to September 2013 [position downsized]
Working in the Accounts Receivable and Collections department, exacting accuracy was paramount. The tools I
created were key in increasing staff's accuracy in their reporting/collecting and raising our department's overall
productivity greatly. My numerous automations and tools ultimately allowed the department to reduce staff size
monumentally. My tools saved the company millions of dollars each year.
• Assisted in creating Electronic Member Match: a tool for automating the billing reconciliation process.
• Coded and designed reports, forms, and GUI for this software.
• Became the sole technical expert for the Accounts Receivable and Collections department and owner of this
automated process.
• Worked with customers' technical contacts to assist them with any issues they might have regarding the creation of
the files that they needed to provide for the Electronic Member Match process.
• Responsible for the use, maintenance, and development of the Electronic Member Match; adjusting of existing
modules and creating new ones for new customers, and maintaining its databases.
• Regularly re-wrote modules to adapt to the frequently changing file formats received from groups, including the
mandated ANSI 830 & 834 compliant formats.
2. • Assigned with creating a new process for analyzing the output from the Electronic Member Match to further narrow
down it's output.
• Created software to compare results from the Electronic Member Match process to our “live” system which would
discover if a discrepancy had already been resolved since the invoices ran. Thereby further reducing th e amount of
time needed to reconcile groups considerably.
• Was often called into meetings to be asked if a process that was currently being discussed could be done
electronically rather than manually. Much of the time, it was possible and I would build tools according to their
requirements.
• Continuously performed data gathering and analysis/reporting for a wide variety of uses.
• Assigned to continuously determine if more manual tasks could be automated.
• Observed the daily duties of staff to ascertain if more processes could be automated.
• Counseled management on which processes could be done electronically rather than manually and built tools
according to their requirements.
• Automated the sending of collection/cancellation letters. Automating this task gave the collection staff a lot more time
to actually collect; resulting in a huge increase in their collection statistics.
• Automated the cash posting process reducing a two-day, monthly task to about fifteen minutes.
• Created customized bills for some of the larger groups that had specific requirements for their billing and payment
processes.
• Assisted staff with technical issues such as learning new software, navigating the computer or the internet, and
performing desktop support to some degree.
• Gave training classes on MS Office suite of tools for staff.
• Department liaison and tech interpreter between our staff and the outsourced I.T. company when they were
developing their new core systems.
• Assigned to monitor and make sure that staff were getting the tools that they needed by regularly meeting with the
outsourced I.T. company and making sure those tools were being built into the new system.
• Assigned to quickly create various tools to be used in the interim while different functions were being migrated and
the new system was unusable so that staff could continue working seamlessly.
• Assisted outsourced I.T. company in every possible way in their endeavors to recreate tools in the new system
(Oracle) that I had previously created in the old one.
• Consulted with senior management regularly after receipts of high quotes from the outsourced I.T. company for tasks
to be performed that were outside the scope of our contract. Often, I would perform the tasks myself in a fraction of th e
time, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars on many occasions.
• Managed all of the above projects alone except for the original billing reconciliation project and the core systems
changeover.
