Labor Market Analysis
April 10, 2016
This report was designed to provide current labor market information to professionals who are
involved in career planning, job placement assistance and vocational rehabilitation services.
Individuals who are currently looking for employment and those considering skill trainings in
marketable field will also find useful information in this report.
National Job Report for the Past three Months
The total nonfarm payroll employment increased an average of 209,000 jobs for the months of
January (168,000), February (245,000) and March 2016 (215,000), and the unemployment rate
is at 5.0 percent (no change from Previous Quarter), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported
on Friday April 1, 2016. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, professional
and technical services, health care, food services and drinking places, retail sales and
construction. The following are some specific careers in the different clusters that are
projective to have significant long term growth according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

(10,573); Alexandria city, Virginia (7,121); Norfolk city, Virginia (6,201) Virginia Beach city, Virginia
(5,863); Prince William County, Virginia (5,334); Henrico County, Virginia (4,595); Roanoke city,
Virginia (4,109) .
The Virginia Employment Commission recorded 157,163 job postings in the Northern Virginia region in
March, 2016. The following are the top 25 careers with the most advertised job openings in Virginia and
