About Aashalata
Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Charitable Trust was started in
November, 2006 in the densely populated proletariat community of Seemapuri,
Shalimar Garden by its founder President Mr. Anil Wilkinson. During his
many visits to the aforementioned locality, Mr. Wilkinson witnessed a highly
populated area in stark contrast with most of children out of any purview of
formal education set up and the already enrolled students emaciated in
attitude, knowledge and skill developments, reason being from collective
empathy of community to any prospect expectation from education to lack of
motivating factors culminating in educational participation.
After undertaking a participatory research, it was identified that the
community members mainly compromised working class with non-existent
modern and secular education and there was a complete absence of any
awareness regarding educational and employment opportunity available. The
condition of women was dire as being an orthodox traditional society females
were relegated to bottom of family hierarchy having no participation in
domestic decision making. To fill this division of opportunity, Mr. Wilkinson
decided to equip the present generation community children with reasonable
education and skill for an healthy and equal participation in society, thus a
non-formal, remedial education program named Bal Vikaas Karyakram as
well as a vocational training program for the community’s adolescent girls was
initiated under the aegis of parent organization Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson
Memorial Charitable Trust. After constant sensitizing and community
mobilization initiatives, with fellow trust members, Educators and Community
members, the program today is receiving a healthy response. A special
program is designed to facilitate the assimilation of non-enrolled students in
formal educational set-up and to improve the educational experience of
students already enrolled in formal schools.

The Non Profit Organization “Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial
Charitable Trust” was founded by Mr. Anil Wilkinson in the year 2006 with
the sole objective of providing education, medical assistance, skill education
and social awareness to people of slum and rural areas.
Through the journey, a few milestone like educating the under privileged
children in Rajeshwari Karuna School (An Entity of Aashalata Victoria
Wilkinson Memorial Charitable Trust) in Sanjay Colony Bhati Mines, New
Delhi -110074 and “Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Primary School” in
Shalimar Garden Main, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, UP have been achieved and
many more like Vocational studies, health and social Awareness program.
sports and art workshops are on their way of achievement.
We are proud to see the meaningful difference in the lives of the people but I
as founder of Aashalata VWMCT firmly believe that we have miles to go before
we sleep and we just cannot rest on our laurels and achievements because our
aim is very high. It is truly said “If you aim for the moon, you will at least reach
the stars.
1
Education
This quote by Marqaret Mead says it all. However, in a country like India,
where having two meals a day is a struggle, education and learning take a
backseat. Of 1.25 billion people residing in this country, more than 40% are
below poverty line. For them, education is not a priority.
Aashalata over the last 10 years has strived for these teeming millions,
struggling to meet their ends, fighting for an equal
space in this diverse country. In line with our vision and mission statement,
our programs aim to enlighten the lives of the underprivileged and
downtrodden children and lead them to self-reliance.
“Children must be taught how to think, not what
to think.” ― Marqaret Mead
Formal School Education
Aashalata has two formal schools – one in Sanjay Colony, Bhati Mines, Delhi by
the name of Rajeshwari Karuna School (An Entity of Aashalata VWMCT)
and the other one in Shalimar Garden Main, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, UP by the
name of “Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Primary School” .

CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL BUILDING AT
SANJAY COLONY BHATI MINES
Support from “Hans Culture Center” for infrastructural development was
really a providence as it came to Aashalta VWMCT at the right time. Aashalta
VWMCT was looking forward to expand the present school “Rajeshwari
Karuna School” running up to 3rd Standard at Sanjay Colony Bhati Mines,
New Delhi – 110074.
The villagers don't want to send their children specially girls to
far off places for safety concerns. The new school constructed with financial
aid from “Hans Culture Center” of 8 class rooms

Purpose
Adult education is the preparation of teaching and

libraries, and lifelong learning center. The practice is also
often referred to as "Training and Development".
31
Course Content
Programs provide one-to-one tutoring and small group
sessions for adults at the 6th grade level or below. To
offer training to welfare and unemployment recipients to
help these individuals gain life and work skills to
facilitate their return to the mainstream. They also
provide programs for ex-offenders to reintegrate to
society.
Educating adults differs from educating children in
several ways. One of the most important differences is
that adults have accumulated knowledge, work
experience that can add to the learning experience.
Another difference is that most adult education is
voluntary, therefore, the participants are generally better
motivated. Adults frequently apply their knowledge in a
practical fashion to learn effectively. They must have a
reasonable expectation that the knowledge recently
gained will help them further their goals. Along with the
mainline Adult education it is also the proliferation of
computer training courses in which adults (not children
or adolescents), most of whom were office workers,
could enroll.

Annual report 2013-14

  • 2. About Aashalata Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Charitable Trust was started in November, 2006 in the densely populated proletariat community of Seemapuri, Shalimar Garden by its founder President Mr. Anil Wilkinson. During his many visits to the aforementioned locality, Mr. Wilkinson witnessed a highly populated area in stark contrast with most of children out of any purview of formal education set up and the already enrolled students emaciated in attitude, knowledge and skill developments, reason being from collective empathy of community to any prospect expectation from education to lack of motivating factors culminating in educational participation. After undertaking a participatory research, it was identified that the community members mainly compromised working class with non-existent modern and secular education and there was a complete absence of any awareness regarding educational and employment opportunity available. The condition of women was dire as being an orthodox traditional society females were relegated to bottom of family hierarchy having no participation in domestic decision making. To fill this division of opportunity, Mr. Wilkinson decided to equip the present generation community children with reasonable education and skill for an healthy and equal participation in society, thus a non-formal, remedial education program named Bal Vikaas Karyakram as well as a vocational training program for the community’s adolescent girls was initiated under the aegis of parent organization Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Charitable Trust. After constant sensitizing and community mobilization initiatives, with fellow trust members, Educators and Community members, the program today is receiving a healthy response. A special program is designed to facilitate the assimilation of non-enrolled students in formal educational set-up and to improve the educational experience of students already enrolled in formal schools.

We are proud to see the meaningful difference in the lives of the people but I as founder of Aashalata VWMCT firmly believe that we have miles to go before we sleep and we just cannot rest on our laurels and achievements because our aim is very high. It is truly said “If you aim for the moon, you will at least reach the stars. 1
  • 6. Education This quote by Marqaret Mead says it all. However, in a country like India, where having two meals a day is a struggle, education and learning take a backseat. Of 1.25 billion people residing in this country, more than 40% are below poverty line. For them, education is not a priority. Aashalata over the last 10 years has strived for these teeming millions, struggling to meet their ends, fighting for an equal space in this diverse country. In line with our vision and mission statement, our programs aim to enlighten the lives of the underprivileged and downtrodden children and lead them to self-reliance. “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” ― Marqaret Mead Formal School Education Aashalata has two formal schools – one in Sanjay Colony, Bhati Mines, Delhi by the name of Rajeshwari Karuna School (An Entity of Aashalata VWMCT) and the other one in Shalimar Garden Main, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, UP by the name of “Aashalata Victoria Wilkinson Memorial Primary School” . 2
