Themes
2. History as a theme :
1. Theme of power :
Every people fight for his power. Ghasiram
is the hunger for the post of power.
History is a center part of this play.
Ghasiram Kotwal play's history
compare with other play Tughlaq.
3. Tragedy as a theme :
Tragedy it has mostly known as Modern
tragedy. In the end of Tughlaq people
throw the stones on the Eliasi so here
same situation for Ghashiram.
4. Feminism and sexuality :
Ghasiram is an use his own daughter for
his position and politics. As well as Nana
is also use her for his own sexuality.
5. Politics as a theme :
Here also we can compare this play with
Tughlaq. Because Tughalak play is mostly
known as the political play.
6. Religion as a theme :
Vijay Tendulkar every play or his works
start with prayer. Same like John
Milton wrote his work Paradise Lost I
this play first he wrote prayer.
Plot
Ghasiram Kotwal play is start with Ganesha. Nana
is the Diwan of Pune is also corrupt and visits the
Lavani dancer. Ghasiram being a Brahmin goes to
collect alms at the Peshwa's festival the next day.
But at that time some of the reason people
disrespect to him and throw the stones on
Ghasiram. Then he decide to take revenge.
Nana is not a good character. Ghasiram try to
earn the power of position and earn respect.
So at that time Ghasiram is an use his daughter
for only earn power for revenge.
Continue...
Ghasiram is just a puppet in the hands of
Nana. Gauri get pregnant by Nana and she is
died due to that pregnancy. In the end all
people complain to Nana for Ghasiram. And
Nana call the police and Nana ordered the
police Ghasiram try to kill me so that is the
end of Ghasiram.
Style
Style highlight writer's quality of writing
skill. Vijay Tendulkar use simple style that
reader can understand with first reading.
Vijay Tendulkar most of the use an original
Marathi language in his own plays. Some
Marathi words are like....
आमच्यवर कोण प्रेम करणार।
(Who will love us ? )
Conclusion
It has been concluded that through the
portrayal of "Ghasiram Kotwal" Tendulkar
revels fact. The Violent transformation of
power of oppressed into the power of
oppressor is very established in the chapter.
😊Thank you 😊
