Aatma –Nirbhar Bharat
The debate to boycott Chinese producthas picked up pace again as Prime
Minister of India has suggested the people of India to become Aatma-Nirbhar
(Independent) and vocal for local products .He gavean example in his speech how
India has started manufacturing PPEkits and Masks which were previously
imported fromoutside the country. This step come amid COVID-19 diseaseas the
various businesses acrossIndia areaffected due to Lockdown.
The main objectiveof this mission is to make India self reliant in every aspect so
that Indian economy can grow and more benefit can be given to small businesses
which are in growing phaseacross India. If peoplestartusing Indian products than
the businesses which arestruggling to compete with the global productmay gets
boostand they can also gets global. This will eventually benefit the economy and
also promotethe Indian products in the InternationalMarket.
For India to become truly self-reliant the country mustrelies only on its own
resources. Efforts mustbemade to not replicate the global work patterns that
don’t sit well with the traditional way of life and focus should be made on
ensuring that from raw material to the final production, ‘Make in India’ would
mean that global companies in India do not make the product, but fromscratch to
the finish will be locally made and delivered.
In this global marketit is not easy to be Aatma-Nirbhar. As there is very high
competition in the market. For a new company to stand in the market must
providecheap products so that it can attract more customers .Currently China is
way ahead in providing cheap products to the world as they have governments
financial supportand also have cheap labor which makes the China an ideal hub
for manufacturing. India can also compete with China if somesupportcan be
given to local businesses fromlocalcustomers and the Government. Currently
India’s tradedeficit with china is $63 billion dollars which is a third of the India’s
total trade deficit. This trade deficit can be lowered by promoting local
manufacturing and supporting localproducts.
India would need to focus on sixareas such as decentralizing its policymaking;
taking rural-centric decisions; keeping the poor at the coreof its policies;
formulating environment-friendly policies; moving away fromjobless growth and
also taking decisions that are rooted in swadeshitraditions.
To promote the Indian industries which are capable of producing enough
products has to be taken in cognizance. The governmenthas to raisethe import
duty on various products that can be manufactured in India so that they can be
manufactured in India. In such a move government has raised the import duty on
edible oil so that its importcan be reduced and edible oil industry in India can be
promoted.
Itwould be a big step for Indian economy if India became successfulin its
objective. Itwill also improvethe employment rate of developing country like
India. In the long run it will make the Indian economy stronger and reduce the
volatility upon Internationalmarket.
