8. In Poland children start school when they are six
but when they are five they go to pre-school.
During their first six years of education they
learn at elementary school. There they must
study: Polish, Maths, History, Biology, Computer
Studies, a foreign language, P.E., Art, Music and
Technics.

10. Then, when they are thirteen they go to Junior
High School (Gimnazjum, also called Middle
School). There they have more subjects and,
generally, more things to study. At the end they
take competence tests. After finishing Junior
High School pupils choose their secondary
school.

13. In Poland students can choose among 3 types of
secondary schools. The education in technical
school lasts 4 years and at the end students take
their Matura Exam (general knowledge) and their
Professional Exams.
In High School they study for 3 years, in the end
they take their Matura Exam.
Basic Vocational School is for 2-3 years. There’s no
Matura Exam in the end, only a basic Professional
Skills test.
15. If a student passes his Matura Exam, he can
continue his professional education at a
university or a college. At the end, if a student
writes his thesis and passes his final exams he
obtains his degree.
