● Huilgol Narayana Rao was a freedom fighter and a playwright in modern Kannada and a author
of a rather significant Kannada song which would go on to receive major recognition by all.
Huilgol Narayana Rao and Gangubai Hangal reportedly sang it in Belgaum at a conference at
Belgaum held in 1924, which was also the venue for the 1924 Indian National Congress Session.
The conference was attended by all who sympathised with the cause of a(n) X.
● Y, by Z, was first written in 1924 and underwent several revisions. It mentions X rather
prophetically for its times and deserved the recognition it received in 2004 by taking over from
Huilgol Narayana Swami’s composition.
● The original version didn’t mention W which caused much disappointment among Kannadigas
as Y didn’t fail to mention prominent individuals along the lines of W who weren’t Kannadigas
but only established centres of their ideologies regions governed by Kannada empires while W
was one among the people. Accordingly this was rectified by Z.

72. The X is celebrated to depict the victory of good over evil.
Various historical episodes state that A as a region has played a significant role in
shaping the X, which is celebrated in it. An inland city, A is strategically located in
the geographical centre of the southern peninsula surrounded by hills and valleys,
equidistant from the eastern and western coasts.
Due to its natural defence fortification, many kingdoms like the Gangas, Cholas,
Hoysalas, Vijayanagara emperors, Marathas, Wodeyars of Mysore and even the
British ruled over it. The rulers patronised the X by making donations for its
celebration, the maintenance of B temple where X is held , and initiated one of the
earliest documentations of it during the period of the Wodeyars in 1811.
SET DOSE - THE KARNATAKA QUIZ RV QUIZCORP
73. B is well known in A for its four towers or ‘Kempegowda gopuras’ that were
designated as the outer boundaries of A. This 800 year old temple is unique
not only because of its architecture but also because the deities present
here are the Pandavas and Draupadi. The temple is named after
Yudhishthira, the eldest brother of the Pandavas. Apart from the main
structure, there are temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Goddess
Muthyalamma on either side of the main structure.
X is one of the oldest and most famous events held in A, and is a celebration
by the people of the Thigala community. It is believed to be the homecoming
of Draupadi and is celebrated on the day of Chaitra Poornima each year.
SET DOSE - THE KARNATAKA QUIZ RV QUIZCORP
74. Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan spent so much of their time in battle, it is remarkable
that they found the time and the vision to develop A.
Hyder Ali and Tipu preferred Srirangapatna, on the banks of River Kaveri as their
capital city as it was easier to defend. In the course of one of their campaigns in
present day Tamil Nadu, Hyder Ali observed the horticultural skills of the local
farmers known as the Thigalas. He invited them into his service to cultivate a
personal garden C. It was further developed and enriched with many more
botanical species by later administrators.
The Thigalas are known to be the offshoots of Veerakumaras who protected
Draupadi during a dire time. Every year, they celebrate the X at a grand scale,
where a large section of their community lives.
SET DOSE - THE KARNATAKA QUIZ RV QUIZCORP
75. There is a tale that describes the symbolic origin of X due to a scene after the completion of
the Kurukshetra war when Yudhishthira and Draupadi were crowned the king and queen. The
couple witnessed a young woman riding a horse while her husband was walking with her
slippers on his head and his mother limping across the road. This was a sign of the onset of the
D and signalled that it was time for them to make a departure to heaven.
On their way to heaven, Draupadi was confronted by the human form of D. The Pandavas, who
had received news of Krishna’s death, were in no state to help her. Draupadi prayed to Lord
Shiva and Parvati, who gifted her their powers; she was also advised to make a pot and
safeguard her shakti (power) in it and then warriors Veerakumaras were born for its
protection.
X is marked by an 11-day-long period of detailed rituals, an ode to Draupadi, whom the Thigalas
worship as an ideal woman. It is believed that during this time, Draupadi descends from
heaven and stays for three days with the community. The men of the community are
considered to be warriors or veerakumaras of Draupadi's army and one of them is selected to
be the carrier of the X.
