One of the most infamous moment of unsportsmanlike behaviour came in
the 2010 FIFA World Cup match between two nations X and Y.
A win could have made X the first nation from their continent to ever reach a
World Cup semi-final. But a player from team Y famously denied X a glorious
opportunity to score a goal in extra time by performing an act not all players
on the pitch bar two are allowed. The player was subsequently sent off the
field. Y later emerged victorious after the penalty shootout much to the
disappointment of team ‘X’.
The resulting animosity between the teams is being rekindled in the light of
their highly anticipated rematch in the group stages of the upcoming FIFA
World Cup in Qatar.
ID X, Y and the player.

X is a member of the South Australian Chappell family which excelled at
cricket. A useful all rounder, X’s excellent fielding garnered him a lot of
applause. After retiring from first class cricket in 1986, X went on to
become a fielding coach for the Sri Lanka cricket team in 1996, and in 2001
became coach of the Bangladesh cricket team.
Although his international cricket career lasted only 4 years, often being
under the radar, an on-field incident in 1981 etched his name into the
history books. The great commentator Richie Benaud regarded it as
“disgraceful” and “against the spirit of the game”. Later it was revealed
that X’s brother had instructed him to do so with the irony being that he
himself was the commentator at that moment.

Though there are many theories regarding the origin of X, one of the oldest
references to it can be dated back to around 400 A.D., where in Germany, X
had a deep religious significance.
Parishioners carried a club-shaped cudgel, or Kegel as an exercise for arm
and as a weapon. At that time the clergies devised a rather questionable
test of a Parishioner’s devotion to the faith. Each of them were made to
stand their Kegel on one end and from the other end of the monasteries’
covered walkway, attempt to cause them to tumble with a stone. Success
determined a purity of faith and failure indicated a less-than-perfect
attitude towards the church. This test later evolved into a competition
among priests as a means of recreation, losing its significance as a test of
faith.

A chess game comprises of three parts - opening, middlegame and
endgame. Opening refers to a position that has already been explored by
chess theoreticians, grandmasters, or computers. It refers to a set of
established moves and explores why these moves are made. Though
beginners are advised to go through opening theory, these theories are often
criticised for making the game monotonous and for quick draws.
To counter the earlier theory, a new variant i.e., Chess960, or Fischer
Random was invented by the late World Champion Bobby Fischer. In this
variant the rules of the game are the same as standard chess but there is a
small change. This change makes gaining an advantage through the
memorization of openings impracticable and players have to rely on their
skill to win the match.

Conceived by some sports journalists, the award X has been a staple in a

from a certain nation, not the sport’s governing body Y which had a separate
award for the same purpose. From 2005 onwards, both these awards started
having the same recipients owing to the award X being globalised rather

award YX which was subsequently announced at a major global event in
2010. This partnership lasted for 6 years, after which YX reverted back to

In 2015, the fans of this sport were treated to a new maneuver/trick shot by
X. It started with X moving up the court to unsettle the opponent and force
them to make a mistake. Quite expectedly, the shot earned praise and
surprisingly some criticism too as some calling it disrespectful to the
opponents
When asked on how he invented the shot, X said when he arrived in
Cincinnati for a tournament, he was very tired and jet lagged. So, to make
the practice session smaller, he came up with this technique. He was
initially just kidding around but since this technique worked, he used it in
the match as well. Fittingly, the shot was named after X.

To overcome a tie result in football, FIFA introduced a rule saying that if a
team scores a goal in extra time, it will be counted as two goals. This
was done to reduce the matches resulting in boring penalty shootouts.
In 1994, in a match between Grenada and Barbados, Barbados had to win
the match by a goal difference of 2 to qualify for finals. In the match,
Barbados gained a one goal lead but found it difficult to score the
second. To battle that, they came up with a weird strategy and
implemented it in the game. And when Grenada came to know to about
their strategy, they countered Barbados in an equally weird way. This left
the match in a highly unusual position with all players seemingly
chucking out one clear essence of the game.
What strategies did both teams employ that such a chaotic match
happened?
65.
66. Answer
Barbados scored an own goal to proceed to extra time so as to get the two
goal advantage easily in extra time.
Grenada then tried to score in either goal so that match does not go to extra
time.
Hence, Grenada was attacking on both sides and Barbados was defending
both sides.

In the 19th century, the term ____ was slang for something cool or
excellent. A derivative of this term was introduced to the sport on an
Atlantic city course in New Jersey in 1903 to describe a performance
better than average. This term, referring to a certain species of
animals, led to the words for subsequently better performances being
an animal of that species. An advantage of two shots was given the
name of a prestigious animal while that of three shots was given the
name of a rare one.

Once an urban legend, this story was true, when X mentioned it in his
autobiography. He said, “Providence had helped me to retain my new
identity, and in the process charted the course of my life. I have often
wondered what would have happened if nature had not ‘marked’ me out,
and given me my ‘guard’ by giving me that small hole on my left ear lobe;

Kancha also known as Goti is an Indian traditional game which is mostly
played by kids. The objective of the game is to hit a few marble balls on the
ground with your own marble ball and whoever is successful in hitting the
targets takes the marbles of all other players and is declared winner.
A similar yet more sophisticated form of this game is X which is played in
52 countries around the world and has been an integral part of
Commonwealth Games since its inaugural season. This unfortunately,
unpopular sport drew attention to Indians when the game increased the
gold medal tally for India in recently held Birmingham Commonwealth

However, this unprecedented performance was recognised just
the opposite by the scoreboard.
Give the funda behind this super-contradiction that left
everyone perplexed.
77.
78.
79. Answer
Nadia Comaneci performed extraordinarily and got perfect 10 (maximum
at that time). But,the scoreboard was programmed to show only three
digits i.e., one digit before decimal and two after it.So her perfect 10 was
unprecedented for the scoreboard itself, therefore it showed 1.00 instead
of 10.00.

When the U.S. government permanently banned cigarette advertisements in
1970 from televisions, only Marlboro became even more successful and
became the largest cigarette manufacturer in the world. This success of
Marlboro is mostly attributed to its “Subliminal advertising which is a
marketing technique in which a brand is so well-known and powerful that a
consumer can be reminded of it by subtle prompts, but without actually
seeing the product itself."
An example of this subliminal advertising is seen in Marlboro’s partnership
with Ferrari and a barcode seen in Ferrari’s F1 livery and the drivers’
uniform. As such, it receives a huge amount of air time during races,
landing on-screen every time a Ferrari car or driver does.
Explain how the barcode was used as for advertising by Marlboro.

When zooming around the track and when the car moved the 'barcode' blurred,
