2. Why Does it
Resonate With Me?
• Ever since I was little I have always enjoyed being in the woods.
I was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska and was always
surrounded by the outdoors. Nature is beautiful, you feel open
and free from being over crowded. The environment is part of
our everyday lives; the filtered water, the air we breathe, the gas
we use, it's what keeps us alive.
• But as we grow as a society more infrastructures are built,
clearing our mass plots of land. The demand for natural
resources are running high while the natural resources are
already running thin. Think of wildlife, when we take over and
clear out land, we are essentially taking their homes away and
forcing them to condense into already overpopulated areas. You
want to know what happens when you have and enormous
amount of animals living in one confined area? Diseases.
Diseases spread throughout their species and has the possible
threat to pass it on to either our food, or even us. I mean, we are
currently in a pandemic after all.
3. Locally Applied
• Some ways I believe this goal can be
achieved locally is to start listening to
environmentalist. We should be aware of
what our effect has had on the
environment, and find ways to battle the
loss. One way we’ve started to do this is by
replanting trees. Planting trees within your
area like parks or even your house can
help. If you do want to help by replanting
trees in parks or any public space, you will
need to get permission from your local
Parks and Recreation offices.
4. Personal Contribution
• For my own contribution, I will
begin to reach out to the members
of Tacoma Metro Parks to gather
as much information about
replanting trees within their parks,
and share what I have learned and
share it with the people within my
community. I believe change
always starts with a small action.
5. Social Media Features
• Social media is also a fantastic place to go to gather a lot of information about specific
plants, or how to videos on making a smaller carbon foot print. Social media connects
millions of people world wide, we should use that as a tool to discuss & learn from each
other about the ways we can help keep our planet healthy. I mean, you can’t take fun
instagram vacation pics if the earth is one giant dust bowl.
