GREEN HOUSE MONITORING AND CONTROLING THROUGH
ZIGBEE COMMUNICATION
ABSTRACT
This project aims at monitoring the environmental parameters continuously. The
parameters like the humidity, temperature are to be monitored continuously and will be
controlled. This project uses the wireless concept, ZIGBEE.
ZIGBEE is a specification for a suite of high level communication protocols using small,
low-power digital radios based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard for wireless personal area
networks (WPANs), such as wireless headphones connecting with cell phones via short-range
radio. The technology defined by the ZIGBEE specification is intended to be simpler and less
expensive than other WPANs, such as Bluetooth. ZIGBEE is targeted at radio-frequency (RF)
applications that require a low data rate, long battery life and secure networking.
The project is designed in such a way that, the micro controller will be interfaced to the
temperature sensor and humidity sensor. The controller continuously monitors the status of the
sensors and the X-Bee transceiver will be interfaced to the microcontroller through serial
communication to pass the corresponding sensors data to the control room PC. The Pc will be
also interfaced with another X-Bee transceiver through serial communication and to the
microcontroller. So by monitoring the sensors data, the devices on the transmitter side can be
controlled from the control room. By monitoring the sensors data, if required, means if any
parameter crosses the threshold value the user needs to be press the corresponding switch which
is interfaced to the controller and the controller will send corresponding data through the XBEE
transceiver to control the devices through relays which are interfaced to the controller. For
temperature control, a dc fan will interfaced to the relay and for humidity control a submersible

motor will be interfaced to the controller. Thus the green house monitoring and controlling can
be achieved. Here an LCD is also provided to display the status of the sensors and devices.
This project uses regulated 5V, 500mA power supply. Unregulated 12V DC is used for
relay. 7805 three terminal voltage regulator is used for voltage regulation. Full wave bridge
rectifier is used to rectify the ac output of secondary of 230/12V step down transformer.
