Work Experience
1. Assistant Director (Mar.’92-Dec. Jul’98) for the Beneficiary Assessment of National
Sericulture Project (BA of NSP) and “Social Monitoring of SERI 2000” funded by
World Bank and Swiss Development Cooperation, Institute for Social and Economic
Change, Bangalore.
3. Job Description: Study was carried out through the methods of participant observation,
and the use of questionnaires and conversational interviews. The main objective was to
provide a continuous feedback to the sericulture development agencies. The studies
carried out so far, has been widely appreciated both by the funding agencies as well as
the government implementing agencies.
Was involved in all the phases of the project, right from designing the study, field data
collection to report writing and presentation in National Sericulture workshop held every
year.
Main Development issues that BA of NSP studies covered:
a. Sericulture and livelihood systems.
b. Sericulture production, productivity, marketing, labour utilization, wage, cost and
returns of silk worm rearing vis-à-vis other crops etc.
c. Trafficking- Child labour, educational status, Women-their level of participation,
understand their views, values, problems, needs, infrastructural facilities, health
hazards, sanitation, difficulties of the beneficiaries.
d. Access to resources, technology, credit and their control over resources and income
from sericulture.
e. Poverty Alleviation through sericulture.
f. Irrigation practices in mulberry cultivation in Tamil Nadu- Identification and
charactierisation of the different sources of irrigation for mulberry across the different
economic categories of sericulturists and appropriately different agro-climatic zones.
g. Examination of water sharing practices and allocation of water for different crops.
h. Status of under ground water and surface water sources.
i. Farmers’ preference for drip irrigation and such other modern methods of irrigation
and scope for adoption among different categories of farmers.
2. Research Officer (Oct.’98-August.’99) for the project on “ National Family Health
Survey- funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Institute for Social and
Economic Change, Bangalore.
Job description: Conducted massive health survey, which was exclusively meant for
reproductive and child health throughout Karnataka in all the 27 Districts.
3. Research Officer (August.’99-Nov.’2000) at the Gender Study Unit, National
Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, for the External Evaluation project on
Literacy Completion Campaign in Karnataka.
4. Job description: Designing the interview schedule and test paper for the neo-literate,
training the investigators at the district level, executing the tests in all the districts of
Karnataka, data analysis and report writing.
4. Faculty-Research and Training (Dec.’2000-Aug.’2003) in Development
Communication Unit, SEARCH, Bangalore.
Job Description: Was executing the projects like Micro credit, Women Heath, Female
Child Education, Health-HIV/AIDS, Female Infanticide.
Conducted Poverty Alleviation Study and Impact of Dalit Development Programme
