2. What is environment ?
Everything that surrounding us from our environment. Our
environment includes all the living and non – living things such as
plants ‚ air , animals , water and land . All the living and non living
things interact and are dependent on each other . Such an
interacting and independent in which the living organisms are
dependent upon each other and their physical environment is
called an ecosystem.
Under normal conditions, an ecosystem remains in a stable state
. However, human actions have changed the environment
disturbing the system.
3. POLLUTION
Human actions have resulted in addition of harmful substances in the air , water and
soil . This called pollution. The harmful substances that are added in the
environment are called pollutants The different forms of pollution are –
1-Air pollution.
2-Water pollution
3-Soil pollution
4-Noise pollution
4. Air Pollution
Air pollution is caused when factories and industrial units release smoke
containing harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide , hydrogen
sulphide ,ammonia and oxides of nitrogen . Smoke from domestic fires , fumes
from auto mobiles , pesticides, and dust also pollute the atmosphere .
Respiratory disease's are caused due to air pollution .
5. Water pollution
Toxic chemicals and substances such as arsenic , mercury and lead are
present in industrial discharge . When these chemicals enter water
bodies , they cause water pollution . Arsenic poisoning causes patches
on skin. Death can result from mercury or lead poisoning . Both plants
and animals life in water are adversely affected by these pollutants .
6. Soil pollution
soil pollution results from excessive chemical fertilizers and
pesticides . These substance enter food chains and find their
way into human body . Landfills also damage large areas of
soil .
7. Noise pollution
Noise pollution is caused by automobiles horns ,
aeroplanes , and loud music . It can result in
deafness and may also cause nervous disorders
and streets .
