The document provides ideas for games and activities that can be played during classroom intervals or breaks to engage students:
1) Sit and stand, dance and freeze, and sparcle are interactive games where students follow instructions and the first to make a mistake is eliminated.
2) Skip counting is a math game where students count by 2s, 5s, 10s and try to reach the highest number before someone makes a mistake.
3) Drawing is suggested to enhance students' creativity by asking them to draw different things.
4) Riddles can be asked before breaks and answers checked after to bring students back to class engaged.
2. Games to play in Interval
Sit and stand:
Comment such as sit and stand will be given
randomly.Students have to do the opposite to the comment. For eg:If
the comment is stand, students must sit.The one who stand will be
eliminated. This will be continued until one wins.
Dance and freeze:
Music will be played and everyone will dance.Sudddenly
music will be stopped, everyone should freeze until music starts
again.
3. Sparcle:
All students are asked to stand in a line or behind their
seats.A word is provided to spell. Straight down the line, each
student provides a letter to spell the word in order. If they
misspell or don’t know the next letter, they must sit
down. Once the word is spelled correctly the next student
says “Sparkle” which will make the next student in line have to
sit.
Skip Counting:
Here is another fun math game on the list. Practice
skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s. Write down the largest number
you get to until someone either makes a mistake or dismissal
occurs. See if the students can “beat their high score” next
time.
Drawing:
We can ask students to draw different things and
enhance their creativity.
4. To bring back students to class after
break:
We can ask some riddle before break.Let’s check
their answers after break. The one who guesses it
will get a chocolate.
11. Mixed Fraction:
way of writing fractions greater than a whole.
A mixed number has a whole part and a fractional part, which is
actually a proper fraction.
To make it more interactive,a printed worksheet can
be provided and it can be done as a colouring
activity.
