2. Materials Required- Any vegetable drug extract,
flat- bottomed dish, oven, desiccators,
diphosphorous pentoxide, anhydrous silica gel.
Principle:
The percentage of moisture content (loss on
drying) reflects on quality and care taken in
processing the extract of a herbal drug. The value
should be kept as low as possible to ensure quality
of the extract.
3. 1. Weigh rapidly 0.5gm of the finely powdered
extract in a flat- bottomed dish (diameter –
50mm and height – 30mm).
2. Dry in the oven at 100- 105ᵒ C for 3 hours.
3. Cool in a desiccator over diphosphorus
pentoxide or anhydrous silica gel.
4. Calculate the percentage of the moisture
content (loss on drying) in mg per gm of air
dried sample.
