2. Narrative Structure
In my music video I plan to incorporate both narrative and
performance.
During the performance I want to have the band in a white
room, and fill it with multi-coloured balloons. Scenes with the
band will alternate between performance and messing around
with the balloons throughout the video.
The narrative aspect of the video I plan to have a couple who
go out for the day to the zoo, generally having a great time
there. Then, during the instrumental section of the song, I plan
to have a stop motion section of the couple putting up a tent,
making a cozy den with blankets, pillows, fairy lights, and
other props that add to the effect.
3. Target Audience
My target audience are young people from early
teens to mid-twenties.
To appeal to my audience I shall; use actors that are
of similar age so the audience can relate to my
music video, my storyline will be either relatable to
the audience or inspire them to want such a
relationship/outlook and stick to a happy and
upbeat genre.
4. The Tone
The tone of my music video will be happy, excitable and
romantic.
I will create this by using colour manipulation during the
editing. I’ll use a fast editing pace that matches the speed
of the music to keep the feeling upbeat and happy. The
romance narrative and the band sections of performance
should also keep the tone happy and positive by how
they act and playing with props in the shot.
I want to create this tone because I want my audience to
feel energized and excited.
5. Key Music Conventions
I will use direct address when the band are
performaning, include many close ups of the lead
singers, and other band members and have the band
perform in a unusual place; the bare room filled with
balloons.
The narrative of the video ties in with the lyrics and
meaning of the music video, Feeling good, “on the up”,
by showing the relationship being healthy and happy.
The activities should also reflect this mood.
I shall also use editing to cut on the beat, and intercut
between performance and narrative. I also may
experiment with hand held camera work during
performance scenes.
6. The Visual Style
Mise en Scene: I will use bright and happy colours only for the balloons,
the costumes will reflect todays youth culture, and will be most likely
earthy tones or blues and yellows. The band will be dressed similarly, but
more similarity should be found as the band should have a form of unity.
Editing: Speed of editing shall match the music (Goodwin) and I plan to
use Final Cut to use colour manipulation
Lighting: To keep the happy tone, I plan to cancel out as many shadows
as I can with extra lights, and during darker scenes use large lights to
keep the set bright or use key lighting for a softer effect.
Camera Work: This shall include close ups of the band, and occasionally
of the couple (so the audience can relate), depth of field during the zoo
scenes to focus on the couple in crowds and for animals, handheld
camera movement during band scenes and interesting framing.
