1. I chose this small area for the woodland location as it was a small and an
enclosed space. This was an important feature for this location as there
has to be some kind of reason for HOODED FIGURE to have buried any
evidence here. A more vast space would have made it more difficult to find
the specific spot. I decided to have this scene set outside with lots of
dirt as GIRL needs to get very muddy and dirty to give her reason to go to
wash her hands in the bathroom where she first sees HOODED FIGURE.
I chose this drama studio for GIRL to dance in as the walls and floor are
black making the white spot light stand out and contrast with the rest of
the set. It also makes the areas not lit by the spot light a lot darker
so that there is an element of sin outside of the light when the light
symbolises purity and innocents. This drama studio also has a wide range
of lights so I could have a choice on what angle the light comes from.
2. The main colour theme of this bath room is black and white – black and
white sink, black tiles, white light in mirror – these colours are
conventions of thrillers. I needed a large mirror so there is plenty of
room to film GIRL and HOODED FIGURE in the shot. It is an everyday standard
bathroom in a house suggesting that the GIRL lives in a conventional home
environment and comes from a typical and comfortable background.
I thought it would be important for the street that GIRL walks down to
be a quiet and rural road. This is because I felt she needed to be on
her own in a quiet road so she appears to be vulnerable. The reason for
this is that HOODED FIGURE is watching her and the vulnerability
creates a sense of danger as this is a common theme of thrillers.
