„You might find some of this stuff inspiring, you will find some
of it boring, and you will definitely forget all of it within a week. „

6. Teaching and research
Unfortunately many university professors consider teaching as an
unneeded chore; something to do with minimum effort. On the other side of
the spectrum many perceive research as not having much purpose.
The worst outcome of this line of thinking can be that smart professors only do
research charismatic professors teach in executive programs and the rest do
most of the undergraduate teaching.
My take: if my research work does not importantly improve my teaching to
undergraduate or master students that research is a waste of
time(regardless of how many citations it brings or awards the paper receives).

7. Motivation
Many (including my wife friends and colleagues) have
asked: why are you doing this? It takes up a lot of time it is
not part of my ‘official duties’ and does not help with regard to
my promotion job or salary.
It’s simply because I love doing it.

8. 3. „Remember it‘s all luck“
I had the luck of meeting the right people at the right time
throughout my childhood, studies and FELU career.
„Understanding that you can’t truly take credit for your
successes, nor truly blame others for their failures will humble
you and make you more compassionate.“
9. 1. You don‘t have to have a dream
Graveyard is full of visionaries (Janez Drnovsek, ex-prime
minister and president of Slovenia; FELU graduate)
„Believe in passionate dedication to the pursuit of short-term
goals“
10. 6. Be a teacher.
„Please be a teacher. Teachers are the most admirable and important people in the world“
„Share your ideas“

11. What I will do from now on?: 9. Don’t
Rush.
„You don‘t have to know what to do“
„Life will sometimes seem long and tough and, god, it’s tiring.
And you will sometimes be happy and sometimes sad. And
then you’ll be old. And then you’ll be dead.“
„Most people I know who were sure of their career path at 20
are having midlife crises now.“
12. Concluding thought
And then there are business models, business process management,
supply chain management, UTAUT, telemedicine, knowledge risks,
production costs, digital transformation, technology adoption,
intersubjective reality, information sharing theory, information
processing theory, absorptive capacity, dynamic capabilities, risk
management, SOA, actor-network theory, disruptive innovation,
cutting stock problem, broadband diffusion, resource based view, e-
procurement, e-government, wikis, task technology fit, knowledge
management, business analytics, frameworks and e-health
But you know all of those things already!
And if you don‘t, here is the summary:

trkman/
So it‘s time for some champagne.

Editor's Notes
Title: the purpose of the speech is to also discuss new challenges after the promotion to the permanent/highest possible title at the university level.
Subtitle: paraphrase of the Douglas Adams novel to emphasize that nowadays information systems & supply chains matter for all companies and all researchers regardless of their main field.
This slide will not be part of the lecture but is included in the presentation to impress the international audience
I kind of hate this kind of formal lectures with „tell us what you have done so then you can die in peace and we can drink champagne).
So I‘ve tried to make the whole event slightly more interesting.
Feel free to browse through my LinkedIn posts.
The talk of Tim Minchin is also well worth your time, I fully agree with many of its statements.
I never use automatic fly-in in my slides. This is a single exception in an attempt to both get a quick pace going (don‘t forget, people hardly wait for those formal lectures to end) and to impress the audience.
Important slide: on connection of teaching and research. The „Why I teach this course“ is a screenshot from the sylabus of one of my courses.
I had the luck of meeting the right people at the right time
But before the champagne, the most important part
But before the end, time for the most important part.
