5. Jack and his mother were poor. His father had just
died and left them with nothing but a cow. His father’s
money, magic harp and magic chicken were stolen before
he died.
One day, Jack’s mother sent him off to sell the cow.
On the way, Jack met an old man who gave him a magic
beans in exchange for the cow.
6. Jack’s mother got angry when he brought
home beans instead of money. She threw the
beans out of the window. The next morning,
Jack and his mother were surprised to find in
the yard a giant beanstalk that reached up to
the sky.
7. In the afternoon, Jack climbed the
beanstalk and came upon a giant castle among
the clouds. The giant woman who lived in the
castle invited Jack to have supper in the dining
room . Just then, the woman’s husband arrived
for supper. Jack quickly hid on top of the
cupboard.
Jack saw that the giant was keeping his
father’s money bag. When the giant fell asleep.
Jack stole the money bag and quickly ran away.
8. Jack’s mother was very happy that his
father’s money bag had been recovered.
The next day, Jack returned to the
giant’s castle. He saw that the giant also
had his father’s magic chicken. When the
giant asleep. He stole the chicken and
quickly left.
On the third day, Jack went up the
castle again. This time he stole from the
sleeping giant his father’s magic harp.
9. But the giant awoke and ran after
Jack. Jack climbed down the beanstalk as
fast as he could with his father’s harp. The
giant followed him down.
Jack quickly got his father’s axe and
cut down the beanstalk. The giant crashed
down to his death.
Jack and his mother were no longer
poor after they recovered all his father’s
possessions from the giant.
