Want some new characters in your life? We can help. CharacTour is a new social network for
entertainment where you can get matched to fictional characters – and to the real-life
“characters” who love them. Think of CharacTour as Facebook for entertainment fans. But
instead of connecting only with friends you already know, you can meet fellow users who
share your same interests and personality. With our patent-pending, personality-based
matching algorithm, CharacTour is also a unique character-focused recommendation engine
for all forms of entertainment.
The Problem
The Internet is a big and often overwhelming place. It’s not an intimate neighborhood shop
where the staff will get to know you and help you find what you didn’t even know you were
looking for. And it’s certainly not a local watering hole where everybody knows your name.
CharacTour’s new social network aims to change this, uniting entertainment fans around the
world with a fun personality quiz so you can find the best kind of users – the ones with
interests and personalities most like yours. And along the way, you can also discover great
things to watch, read, play, and buy.

ranging from teen characters to superheroes. And then read their profiles.
• Find your long-lost twin – our patent-pending matching system will tell you which users
have a personality like yours.
• Meet users like your favorite characters. Are you like Sherlock? Find your Watson. Or if
you’re like Superman, find your Lois Lane or Lex Luthor.
• Find out what entertainment other users like, play interactive discovery games, and get
personalized recommendations of what to watch, read, and play.
• Write a review, ask a question, pretend to be a character, or post in four other ways.
Status
Launched publicly on Aug. 4, 2015, CharacTour has attracted a total of 872K unique visitors
though low-cost Facebook ads, robust sharing on social media (114K users visited in one 10-
day span from a single Tumblr post), and favorable press (including in Variety and The
Huffington Post). In August 2016, CharacTour restricted access to the site to lay the
groundwork for a private beta of the social network that was launched on Oct. 27, 2016. In the
6+ weeks since that launch (through Dec. 11), the average user spent a total of 10.4 minutes
on the site per trip and visited 12.5 pages, compared to 6.6 minutes and 4.1 pages per session
for the average media/entertainment site.
Business Model
CharacTour’s revenue model is three-fold: 1) Advertising, especially in the form of sponsored
content from content providers. 2) Each profile features links to buy that title through affiliate
partners including Amazon, Apple, etc., and CharacTour will expand into character-related
merchandise. 3) It will pursue ways to monetize the valuable psychographic data it collects.
Founders
CEO Kim Foerster has spent much of her career as a private equity investor. COO Pete
McEntegart is a former Sports Illustrated writer and screenwriter. Kim and Pete have known
each other since they worked together at Goldman Sachs at the start of their careers.
