2. Quote
Great things in business are never done by one
person, they're done by a team of people.
- Steve Jobs
3. Transforming Ideas into Reality
• Every business starts with a simple idea and a
single mind.
• But Ideas are vague in nature and abstract.
• To transform these ideas into reality, we need a
team of people.
• And if we get the best team then the results are
incredible and unimaginable just like in case of
Apple Corporation.
4. What is a great team?
• Grouping people just become a team but to make
it a great team, it needs to be built based on
multiple factors which is called as Team
Building.
5. Team Building
• Team is a collection of individuals working
or acting together for a common purpose or
benefit.
• Building means a relationship built on trust.
• Team + Building = Probability of success is high
• Team – Building = Probability of success is low
6. Team Models
It has been observed that teams generally goes
with Individual ownership model(Team per-se)
rather than Collective ownership model(Team
Building) with the rigid timelines and the
complexity of the projects.
7. What happens in Individual
ownership model?
• Project will be divided into technical modules
between each of the resources and given
individual ownership.
• No one is involved in each other’s work.
• Every resource works for their own interest but
not on the interest of the project.
• This will open unhealthy competition between
the resources to prove themselves.
• Not able to leverage each other’s strengths and
weaknesses.
8. Drawbacks of this Model:
• No uniformity is seen throughout the project.
• Completed Modules are inter-connected with
weakest links
• Appears like Summation of Individual efforts
but not as a collective effort
• Every resource is confident about their
individual modules but not about the project as
a whole
• Blame game is constrained to individual
resources.
9. What happens in Collective
ownership Model?
• Project will be divided into competency-based
modules(Client facing, Technical expertise, Design
expertise, R&D, Presentation, Documentation) between
each of the resources based on their skills and given
Collective ownership.
• Everyone is supposed to aware of each other’s work.
• Alignment to the project interest but not the individual
interests.
• Interpersonal relationship will be developed.
• Roles and responsibilities will be defined based on the
assessment of their strengths and weaknesses.
• Finding solutions to team problems like communication
gaps etc.
10. Advantages of this model:
• Uniformity will be observed throughout the project
as the modules are perfectly blended once done.
• If team succeeds, team effort will be given due
credit. If it fails, the blame game should be taken by
the entire team.
• Everyone knows not only each other strengths and
weaknesses but also inner things like mood swings
etc.
• High confidence among the resources.
• Appears like collective effort.
• Resources will be feel comfortable having informal,
brief and short-notice meetings to resolve issues.
11. Role of Leader in Team Building
The leader of the team plays a vital role here who
should gain trust first among the team. He should
come out of his leader shoes and wear team-player
shoes when he is working as part of team and to
lead it by setting the example.
