Negative Effects Of Autobiographical Memory
First–year university students are prone to stressful environments. Being away from home for the first time would often elicit negative feelings,
especially loneliness and sadness. But what happens when one's mood is consistently negative? According to the DSM–5, symptoms of clinical
depression include feeling sad, or hopeless, having diminished pleasure, and having feelings of worthlessness and guilt, nearly everyday for at least 2
weeks. In simpler words, depression is a constant experience of negative emotion. This mindset would bias personal experiences, in particular,
autobiographical memory. This essay will explore how the negative mood disorder, depression affects autographical memory and the role it plays. The
topic was inspired...show more content...
In comparison, control groups will comply with the instructions and identify specific autobiographical experiences about themselves. It should be noted
that the depressed patients did not intentionally disobey the instructions; rather, the patients unintentionally and unconsciously gave general
descriptions of memory. Another metanalysis also finds that, when prompted, people that depressive symptoms will tend to give general memories,
especially when the memories are negative (Talarowska, Berk, Maes, & GaЕ‚ecki, 2016). This may be due to the fact that emotional regulative
mechanisms in the autobiographical memory will try to reduce levels of stress due to negative emotions by blocking recollection, leading to a less
specific recollection. Interestingly enough, this is also shown in patients with PTSD (post–traumatic stress disorder).
A modern replication of these findings were done where the researchers divided participants into high or low moods based on their scores on the
MAACL–R (Multiple Affect Adjective Checklist–Revised) (Moffitt et al., 1994). The participants were divided on mood scores, not on diagnosed
clinical depression. The results suggested that participants whom scored higher for depressive moods on the

An Autobiography Of My Cultural Identity
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. My family was catholic and so I was taught to pray and by the age of 13 I had all my
sacraments. For most of my life I lived the downtown area of the main city where my mother and her family had also grown up. I considered
myself very lucky because even though our economic security was not the best as I grew up, my mother always strived for me to receive the best
education she could afford. As a result, I learned to speak English from a very young age and then French, I learned to play the guitar and also to
paint. I also took embroidery and etiquette classes and so on. Because of the location where we lived, I also took advantage of many cultural
interactions with people from other...show more content...
Then, I was born in 1989, her only child. Arguably, this story was an eye opener for me from an early age. I wondered, why wasn't my uncle forced
to stop his life and take care of his parents as well, after all they were both their children. Instead, my mother the female was the one who quit
everything and took care of her parents. As a result I grew up thinking that gender roles were meant to favor men only, while women had to sacrifice
their lives for others.
Arguably, my mother is my role mother. As a single mother, she struggled to provide for me in unimaginable ways. Being awoman and a single mother
in the Dominican Republic played an important factor on her decay in class and economic status. As a result, it created a sense of awareness for me,
to understand that as women we have to work twice as hard than men to accomplish half of what they have. This statement was true not only in the
Dominican Republic in the 90's but also today in America. Looking back at my mother's struggles I cannot say that I have overcome half as much
as she did. However, I can see how being a woman has been a disadvantage and an advantage at times. A disadvantage because as women in my
society, we tend to be victims of sexism and harassment. Yet, it may also be an advantage because the same society that subject's women, at times
favors these in the labor market. For instance, when my mother passed away I was 16 years

Military Autobiography
Hello everybody how you doing. Today you will be hearing my story from when I was a little kid. I found something amazing, from these stories
you will probably be able to guess why I joined the military after these adventures. So sit back relax and and just chill for a couple moments while I
set the stage. Keep in mind I was 10 in my own time. So there I was on maple and chestnut street. I still had my big red coat on and my books tied
together with a string. Talking with my friends their names were William and James. They are very important later on in the story. We were the kinda
nerdy kids who liked games like Pac–man, Q*bert , and Galaga, and Snake. When I was coming home from the last day of school I was so happy.

It's is a cold not so sunny day. I have no clue where I am so I just wander. When I looked down I was in arctic military clothes. I find this old car and
I wonder if I look good so I look in the side mirror, and that's when I realized I looked rough. I had cuts all over my face. Who knows how they got
there but they somehow did. I looked at my uniform and saw the soviet symbol on my chest. So then I'm thinking to myself, " Oh gosh what did I
get myself into this time?" As I was walking and thinking to myself I found a building so I went up to the front door and knocked. Nobody
answered so I just left. As I was walking and pondering I ran into this guy. I asked him where I was and he said "why Moscow of course." I asked
him why there were holes in the ground and he said the battle of Moscow. Them holes there were mortar holes. Later on I found the time machine.
I took it back to my own time. Later on in life I found the time machine again so I went back in it wondering where it would take me next. Next
thing I know I'm in a heli flying over Iraq. I realized I was with 5 other guys and on their uniforms it said U.S. Navy Seal. Next thing I know the
helicopter that was next to us radios on and says there's a stinger team. A stinger is a lock–on rocket launcher made by the U.S.

8,989 miles, that is the distance that separates me from a huge part of who i am. I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa. My dad moved to the USA when
i was about four or five to have a chance of the "American Dream." He lived in the states on his own so that we would join him later. Four years later
in 2009 the rest of the family joined him. We lived all together in Atlanta Georgia for a year then in 2010 we moved to Newton Kansas and have been
here ever since.
I have one brother, Lincoln who is seven years older than me. I just turned seventeen this late october. My dad is one of the pastors at Whitestone

Cultural Autobiography Essay
My story begins on August 31, 1999 when I was born in Beth Israel Hospital, from there I was raised in Andover, Massachusetts my whole life. I am
half Japanese as my mother immigrated from Japan to the United States when she met my father during college. My father being a Caucasian male
created an interracial family that I was raised. I went to a technical school where it was predominately a Hispanic culture where much of the students
were bilingual. Coming from a family that is solely not one race and going to a school where many students shared a different culture allowed for
me to get a unique view of society. My family which includes my mother, father and sister all live in a predominately white upper class town. Life was
a lot easier for me as I was a part of the upper–class community in the town. Being a part of the upper middle class allowed me to attend an out of state
college. On the other hand, many of my friends from school stayed in Massachusetts to attended community college and other in state colleges as it is a
less of a financial burden. Many of the student attended my high school and went to those colleges were predominately Hispanic culturally. As they were

Not being a part of that culture was difficult as many of the students spoke Spanish but I could never understand them. Even when I was on the same
soccer team with them they still spoke Spanish to each other, although some one would usually try to translate for me. I felt like a burden to them as I
mostly had to depend on them for communication between others. One example of this was during a game where the goalie told me to leave the ball
in Spanish, but because I didn't understand him I kicked the ball causing my goalie to leave the net and the other team scored. They later told me what

Autobiographical Exploration
According to Sigmund Freud and his theory of Psychoanalysis, human behaviors, morals, and patterns of thought are all linked to our past childhood
experiences. Our experiences and our exposure to our environment during our lifetime made who we are. How we grew up, who we interacted with,
and what we saw around us affected how we viewed certain hot topics in our modern society.
I was born into a Hispanic family that enforced the Spanish language at home, and fitting into the stereotype, when it came to religion, there was only
one option. Catholicism. Everyone I talked to growing up, before attending kindergarten, was catholic. It was the only thing I was exposed too. I never
knew people could follow a...show more content...
I also believe that having that religious connection with my family is something everyone needs to have.
Another hot topic that I learned growing up is sexual orientation. Coming from a Catholic environment growing up, there is only one type of sexual
orientation that we believed in. Being heterosexual. Yet, recently, I learned a lot about sexual orientation when the legalization of same
–sex marriage
was made in the past year. For instance, I had never processed that people of the same sex could not get married until watching the all the movements
on the television, and after same–sex marriage was legalized I discovered the many types of sexual orientations that could exist in marriage. As soon
as it was legalized, I was happy for their happiness, yet did not realize the impact it would make on our church at the time.
Today, I believe the sexual orientation is a way for any individual's unique way to find happiness outside of the church. I find those people to be
courageous for finding their own path and following their heart to find love, but I also believe through the catholic church that only the love between a
man and women have the right to get married under a church.
As I got older I also realized that social class was not homogeneous in my community. At school, I started to be more aware of my surroundings by
noticing what the trends were, what clothes people wore, and what cars they got in

Example Of Academic Autobiography
Assignment 1 – Academic Autobiography Growing up on a small farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma, my family knew more about growing crops and
raising cows than focusing on academics. There were no issues with learning the farm life, but academically my family was not the brightest group
of individuals when it came to academics. Early on in life I understood I did not want to grow up a farmer like the rest of my family. I enjoy being
on the farm, but my choice to move outside of the box was different than any of my other family members. I am your basic outcast of the family who
chose a different route in life.
As a young child, my mother bounced from marriage to marriage until I was nine years old. My father chose not to be part of my life, so, growing up
was tough without a father figure in my life was tough. I attended several different schools, and as a young child attending Oklahoma City schools
wearing cowboy boots and hat I didn't not always fit in. In1987, my mother chose to move closer to our immediate family in Tuttle, Oklahoma. I started
attending Amber–Pocasset school district, small school district south of Tuttle Oklahoma, and finished my general education (4th – 12th). There is a
large difference when comparing Oklahoma City school district to Amber–Pocasset schools which is two towns combined into one. The elementary
school was in the town of Pocasset (K – 6th) and the high school (7th – 12th) was in Amber. Moving to a smaller school district equals small class

Autobiographical Narrative
It was the beginning of an endless summer, I did what I do every typical morning, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and turned on my computer. I
reached for some snacks as I hopped on Discord, a free app for voice and text chat. All of my friends were on: Austin, Edison, Edmund. Including my
brother, Kevin. They were chatting about how they missed each other and reminisced about the good old days. At that moment, I knew it wouldn't be a
fun summer without my friends with me, so I decided to plan for a hangout.

An eight year old little girl from their group, walked up and pointed at us, she talked in a hostile manner; cursing, using derogatory words, and being

us like that.
"Shut the f*ck up and mind your own f*cking business, idiots!" The little girl screeched.
To hear that from a minor eight year old girl was extremely shocking and even more so irritating. As she continued to ramble nonsense, her older sister
siding with her, the others stood back and silently watched. Then, she began to recite racist jokes about our race.
"What, you don't understand what I'm saying, you should've learned some English before coming to America, or are Asians all deaf? She laughed.
"N*gga, they are probably all deaf."
"Can you be more mature!" "Where did you learn that from?" "You would be an awful person growing up." We fired back trying to not offend her the
way she did to us. It was a two on two, but no matter how hard we argued, they would just run their mouths like a jackhammer jammed on. They
continued to go off topic insulting us instead of answering our question. It was at this moment, my friend Austin came in to attempt to salvage the
situation. Austin is a year older than me, he is in high school, but looks like an adult. There was a chance of winning. "Calm down, don't cause any

Self Autobiography Essay
Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the
body. My work is autobiographical in the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social surroundings.
The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist.
These are themes I spent a great deal of time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art Education, which
was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art
history; and their relationship to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature of my artistic
interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It
presents an individual identity in a narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private, fictitious and real
are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present
this as honestly or sincerely as possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can also be a

Autobiographical Essay Entry Slip
Autobiographical Essay Entry Slip Writing the autobiographical essay can be compared to a Monday. This was the first essay I wrote in
composition, and I knew if I was going to pass this class with the grade that I would be happy with, it would take hard work and a great deal of
motivation. Cross country is a strenuous sport. If I wanted times I could be happy with, I needed to work hard to earn them. Monday is the first
day of the week, which means there are five days standing in the way of the weekend and myself. As I wrote the autobiographical paper, I realized this
was only the first paper out of five. If i was going to reach the finish line, I would have to run the race. When Mr.s Gelwicks first assigned this essay, I

Autobiographical Memory Essay
`Memory` is a label for a diverse set of cognitive capacities by which humans and perhaps other animals retain information and reconstruct past
experiences, usually for present purposes. Autobiographical memory is a complex and multiply determined skill, consisting of neurological, social,
cognitive, and linguistic components. At most beasic level, autobiographical memories refer to personally experienced past events. Over the past
decade the research into autobiographical memory has led to an account of human memory in which personal goals play a major role in the formationk,
access and construction of specific memories Episodic memory is reconceived as a memory system that retains highly detailed sensory perceptual

Autobiographical memory contains the information you have about yourself. There are three different types of autobiographical memory. They
include:personal memory, autobiographical fact, and generic personal memory. Personal memory consists of an image based representations of a
single unrepeated event. The next type is autobiographical fact. This is identical to personal memory except for the fact that the memory is not
image based. The final type of autobiographical memory is generic personal memory. This is similar to personal memory but the event is repeated
or a series of similar events occur and are represented in a more abstract form. The psychologist William Brewer defines recollective episodic
memory as a `reliving` of hte individual phenomenal experience from a specific moment in their past, accompanied by a belief that the remembered
episode was personally experienced by the individual in their past . Significant psychological complexitiy is required, on such views, for genuine
episodic remebering. The concept of `episodic memory was originally proposed by Tulving (1972) and later elaborated . We conceive of episodic
memory as a system that contains experience–near, highly event specific, sensory–perceptual details of recent experiences–experiences that lasted for
comparatively short periods of time

What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to
answer the first, but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a select
few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus answering the second question would
not be difficult at all. They are classified as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a relatively recent
discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM,

The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self–referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional,
social, and self–relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey & Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the
amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and
shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could also
include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals
with regular or poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in information transfer
between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh & LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the
superior memory individuals with HSAM

finished this project became extremely easy. It became just about getting things done and making sure they meant word count (if they had a word
count). What I learned about myself as a writer is that of course I should work on becoming a better writer and work harder on making sure all my
writings easily convey the message that I am trying to send. More or less I have to work hard to be less confusing and get better at putting my thoughts

The Reflection Of The Autobiography Of My Life
Henry Ford once said," Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success." I believe everything that happens in life happens at the time we
take our first breath in the world. We typically get our greatest memories and our greatest successes at our life's milestones. Some of these milestones
include, graduating high school, attending college, getting engaged, and getting married. These milestones are what shape us into the person we are
today. May I present you the graduating Class of 2013...the moment our lives change, the moment we turn the page to write about the next
chapters in the autobiography of our life. High School is where our lives start to shift us and molds us into the person we are today. Growing up I
never really remember staying at one school an entire year. My parents got divorced when I was only five years old. When I was nine my mother
remarried, her husband at the time had a job that kept us on the move year after year never really getting us to know anyone in the town we moved
to. It wasn't until my junior year in high school when my mother and her husband got a divorce and my mom moved back to her home town.
Knowing now I would be able to start to make friends and able to focus on a social life as well as an academic lifestyle. I was wrong being I was
transferring from school to school I was behind in some of my classes and I wasn't learning as fast and effective as the other students. My mother and

Autobiographical Statement Essay
A few years ago I found myself on a train heading from Amsterdam to Hamburg. I had just spent several days traveling through the Netherlands and
was going to end my fall break trip in Germany. The cities I picked had been arbitrary. All I knew was that in the three and a half months I was
studying abroad I would see as much of the world as possible. This often meant frantically searching the internet for cheap flights, bus tickets, and
hostiles, and only getting to spend a day or two in a magnificent city. This also meant traveling alone. As I relaxed in my seat and scribbled postcards
to my friends and parents, I was at the most peace I had ever been. It was not without chaos though. I had taken the wrong tram that morning, been

I had to learn to find and trust my community. That peace and serenity I felt on a bumpy train ride stayed with me as a constant reminder of the peace
possible in the world. Having dealt with such a mind–consuming illness I am often envious of those that need not be mindful of every moment and
event of every day in order to survive. However, I know that my increased awareness also makes my life that much brighter. It allows me to see and
feel other people's pain. It has allowed me to help others through the same difficult times I once faced. My recovery was all about balance and my life
continues to be about that same sense of equilibrium. About working hard and playing hard. About spending time alone, running, meditating, dancing,
or writing–and by engaging in conversation, debating, embracing, dancing (with others), and attending worship. About taking part in extracurricular
activities, academics, and volunteering and still giving myself time to have coffee with a friend or read alone in the park. Growing up Catholic and
attending parochial school from kindergarten through my senior year of high school meant that religion was constantly around me. However, in contrast
to this academic setting, God was absent from my daily life. Although they sent me to a Catholic school and insisted I attend mass every Sunday, my
parents never once mentioned God, prayer, or spirituality within the home. These

Many times in people 's lives, they are asked to define their personality and they do not know how to respond. What is the actual definition of

As I grew older, I noticed a change in the way I identified myself. At the age of 12, I hit puberty and my hormones were raging. I now understood
that the stalk didn 't really drop me off at my doorstep. I was now introduced to the next bond in my life, the female. Females have had a major
impact on the way a man governs his life. At this time in my life I knew to be more adamant about my hygiene and the way I present myself in
public. This way, I might attract the same girls that attracted my attention. I was fairly good at conversing with the opposite sex and this was some sort
of fulfillment in my life that greatly influenced the way I think and act, not only to impress others but also to feel good about myself.
After I hit puberty, I realized a new Joey. A more a mature Joey, who started caring for the feelings of others rather than just myself. It was a good

Autobiographical future thinking and autobiographical memory
Much research has been done on the default mode network, a set of various brain regions commonly active when individuals think for themselves
undisturbed. This network has been associated with past recall, navigation, considering alternative perspectives and imagining future events (Buckner
& Carroll, 2007). Research examining remembering the past and imagining the future have shown there to extensive neural overlap when these
processes are engaged (Bar, 2007; Buckner and Carroll, 2007; Gilbert and Wilson, 2007; Hassabis and Maguire, 2007; Schacter and Addis 2007a,

While growing up, my family always pushed me to learn something new. Being a kindergarten teacher, my mother taught me the basics of reading

Negative Effects Of Autobiographical Memory

  • 1. Negative Effects Of Autobiographical Memory First–year university students are prone to stressful environments. Being away from home for the first time would often elicit negative feelings, especially loneliness and sadness. But what happens when one's mood is consistently negative? According to the DSM–5, symptoms of clinical depression include feeling sad, or hopeless, having diminished pleasure, and having feelings of worthlessness and guilt, nearly everyday for at least 2 weeks. In simpler words, depression is a constant experience of negative emotion. This mindset would bias personal experiences, in particular, autobiographical memory. This essay will explore how the negative mood disorder, depression affects autographical memory and the role it plays. The topic was inspired...show more content... In comparison, control groups will comply with the instructions and identify specific autobiographical experiences about themselves. It should be noted that the depressed patients did not intentionally disobey the instructions; rather, the patients unintentionally and unconsciously gave general descriptions of memory. Another metanalysis also finds that, when prompted, people that depressive symptoms will tend to give general memories, especially when the memories are negative (Talarowska, Berk, Maes, & GaЕ‚ecki, 2016). This may be due to the fact that emotional regulative mechanisms in the autobiographical memory will try to reduce levels of stress due to negative emotions by blocking recollection, leading to a less specific recollection. Interestingly enough, this is also shown in patients with PTSD (post–traumatic stress disorder). A modern replication of these findings were done where the researchers divided participants into high or low moods based on their scores on the MAACL–R (Multiple Affect Adjective Checklist–Revised) (Moffitt et al., 1994). The participants were divided on mood scores, not on diagnosed clinical depression. The results suggested that participants whom scored higher for depressive moods on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. An Autobiography Of My Cultural Identity I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. My family was catholic and so I was taught to pray and by the age of 13 I had all my sacraments. For most of my life I lived the downtown area of the main city where my mother and her family had also grown up. I considered myself very lucky because even though our economic security was not the best as I grew up, my mother always strived for me to receive the best education she could afford. As a result, I learned to speak English from a very young age and then French, I learned to play the guitar and also to paint. I also took embroidery and etiquette classes and so on. Because of the location where we lived, I also took advantage of many cultural interactions with people from other...show more content... Then, I was born in 1989, her only child. Arguably, this story was an eye opener for me from an early age. I wondered, why wasn't my uncle forced to stop his life and take care of his parents as well, after all they were both their children. Instead, my mother the female was the one who quit everything and took care of her parents. As a result I grew up thinking that gender roles were meant to favor men only, while women had to sacrifice their lives for others. Arguably, my mother is my role mother. As a single mother, she struggled to provide for me in unimaginable ways. Being awoman and a single mother in the Dominican Republic played an important factor on her decay in class and economic status. As a result, it created a sense of awareness for me, to understand that as women we have to work twice as hard than men to accomplish half of what they have. This statement was true not only in the Dominican Republic in the 90's but also today in America. Looking back at my mother's struggles I cannot say that I have overcome half as much as she did. However, I can see how being a woman has been a disadvantage and an advantage at times. A disadvantage because as women in my society, we tend to be victims of sexism and harassment. Yet, it may also be an advantage because the same society that subject's women, at times favors these in the labor market. For instance, when my mother passed away I was 16 years Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Military Autobiography Hello everybody how you doing. Today you will be hearing my story from when I was a little kid. I found something amazing, from these stories you will probably be able to guess why I joined the military after these adventures. So sit back relax and and just chill for a couple moments while I set the stage. Keep in mind I was 10 in my own time. So there I was on maple and chestnut street. I still had my big red coat on and my books tied together with a string. Talking with my friends their names were William and James. They are very important later on in the story. We were the kinda nerdy kids who liked games like Pac–man, Q*bert , and Galaga, and Snake. When I was coming home from the last day of school I was so happy. During the summer...show more content... It's is a cold not so sunny day. I have no clue where I am so I just wander. When I looked down I was in arctic military clothes. I find this old car and I wonder if I look good so I look in the side mirror, and that's when I realized I looked rough. I had cuts all over my face. Who knows how they got there but they somehow did. I looked at my uniform and saw the soviet symbol on my chest. So then I'm thinking to myself, " Oh gosh what did I get myself into this time?" As I was walking and thinking to myself I found a building so I went up to the front door and knocked. Nobody answered so I just left. As I was walking and pondering I ran into this guy. I asked him where I was and he said "why Moscow of course." I asked him why there were holes in the ground and he said the battle of Moscow. Them holes there were mortar holes. Later on I found the time machine. I took it back to my own time. Later on in life I found the time machine again so I went back in it wondering where it would take me next. Next thing I know I'm in a heli flying over Iraq. I realized I was with 5 other guys and on their uniforms it said U.S. Navy Seal. Next thing I know the helicopter that was next to us radios on and says there's a stinger team. A stinger is a lock–on rocket launcher made by the U.S. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Psychological Autobiography Examples 8,989 miles, that is the distance that separates me from a huge part of who i am. I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa. My dad moved to the USA when i was about four or five to have a chance of the "American Dream." He lived in the states on his own so that we would join him later. Four years later in 2009 the rest of the family joined him. We lived all together in Atlanta Georgia for a year then in 2010 we moved to Newton Kansas and have been here ever since. I have one brother, Lincoln who is seven years older than me. I just turned seventeen this late october. My dad is one of the pastors at Whitestone Mennonite Church. He is still going to school part time and working part time. My mom broke her back a few years back so she couldn't be a CNA anymore. Instead she did what she loved which was open up her clothing store, Moyo Clothing. I always said that coming to America was a curse and a blessing. • 5. Cultural Autobiography Essay My story begins on August 31, 1999 when I was born in Beth Israel Hospital, from there I was raised in Andover, Massachusetts my whole life. I am half Japanese as my mother immigrated from Japan to the United States when she met my father during college. My father being a Caucasian male created an interracial family that I was raised. I went to a technical school where it was predominately a Hispanic culture where much of the students were bilingual. Coming from a family that is solely not one race and going to a school where many students shared a different culture allowed for me to get a unique view of society. My family which includes my mother, father and sister all live in a predominately white upper class town. Life was a lot easier for me as I was a part of the upper–class community in the town. Being a part of the upper middle class allowed me to attend an out of state college. On the other hand, many of my friends from school stayed in Massachusetts to attended community college and other in state colleges as it is a less of a financial burden. Many of the student attended my high school and went to those colleges were predominately Hispanic culturally. As they were Latino, I appeared to them as a generic Asian. With this came stereotypes such as the assumption that I was...show more content... Not being a part of that culture was difficult as many of the students spoke Spanish but I could never understand them. Even when I was on the same soccer team with them they still spoke Spanish to each other, although some one would usually try to translate for me. I felt like a burden to them as I mostly had to depend on them for communication between others. One example of this was during a game where the goalie told me to leave the ball in Spanish, but because I didn't understand him I kicked the ball causing my goalie to leave the net and the other team scored. They later told me what that word Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. Autobiographical Exploration According to Sigmund Freud and his theory of Psychoanalysis, human behaviors, morals, and patterns of thought are all linked to our past childhood experiences. Our experiences and our exposure to our environment during our lifetime made who we are. How we grew up, who we interacted with, and what we saw around us affected how we viewed certain hot topics in our modern society. I was born into a Hispanic family that enforced the Spanish language at home, and fitting into the stereotype, when it came to religion, there was only one option. Catholicism. Everyone I talked to growing up, before attending kindergarten, was catholic. It was the only thing I was exposed too. I never knew people could follow a...show more content... I also believe that having that religious connection with my family is something everyone needs to have. Another hot topic that I learned growing up is sexual orientation. Coming from a Catholic environment growing up, there is only one type of sexual orientation that we believed in. Being heterosexual. Yet, recently, I learned a lot about sexual orientation when the legalization of same –sex marriage was made in the past year. For instance, I had never processed that people of the same sex could not get married until watching the all the movements on the television, and after same–sex marriage was legalized I discovered the many types of sexual orientations that could exist in marriage. As soon as it was legalized, I was happy for their happiness, yet did not realize the impact it would make on our church at the time. Today, I believe the sexual orientation is a way for any individual's unique way to find happiness outside of the church. I find those people to be courageous for finding their own path and following their heart to find love, but I also believe through the catholic church that only the love between a man and women have the right to get married under a church. As I got older I also realized that social class was not homogeneous in my community. At school, I started to be more aware of my surroundings by noticing what the trends were, what clothes people wore, and what cars they got in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Example Of Academic Autobiography Assignment 1 – Academic Autobiography Growing up on a small farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma, my family knew more about growing crops and raising cows than focusing on academics. There were no issues with learning the farm life, but academically my family was not the brightest group of individuals when it came to academics. Early on in life I understood I did not want to grow up a farmer like the rest of my family. I enjoy being on the farm, but my choice to move outside of the box was different than any of my other family members. I am your basic outcast of the family who chose a different route in life. As a young child, my mother bounced from marriage to marriage until I was nine years old. My father chose not to be part of my life, so, growing up was tough without a father figure in my life was tough. I attended several different schools, and as a young child attending Oklahoma City schools wearing cowboy boots and hat I didn't not always fit in. In1987, my mother chose to move closer to our immediate family in Tuttle, Oklahoma. I started attending Amber–Pocasset school district, small school district south of Tuttle Oklahoma, and finished my general education (4th – 12th). There is a large difference when comparing Oklahoma City school district to Amber–Pocasset schools which is two towns combined into one. The elementary school was in the town of Pocasset (K – 6th) and the high school (7th – 12th) was in Amber. Moving to a smaller school district equals small class Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Narrative Essay Autobiographical Narrative It was the beginning of an endless summer, I did what I do every typical morning, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and turned on my computer. I reached for some snacks as I hopped on Discord, a free app for voice and text chat. All of my friends were on: Austin, Edison, Edmund. Including my brother, Kevin. They were chatting about how they missed each other and reminisced about the good old days. At that moment, I knew it wouldn't be a fun summer without my friends with me, so I decided to plan for a hangout. "The Park!" I suggested. "We should go to the park for a meetup," I added. Without a second thought, they agreed. The park it was. We were heading to the Kelloch and Velasco Park near our...show more content... An eight year old little girl from their group, walked up and pointed at us, she talked in a hostile manner; cursing, using derogatory words, and being downright rude. I understood that she was young, which explains why she was acting so immature, but she wasn't embarrassed, nor ashamed, to talk to us like that. "Shut the f*ck up and mind your own f*cking business, idiots!" The little girl screeched. To hear that from a minor eight year old girl was extremely shocking and even more so irritating. As she continued to ramble nonsense, her older sister siding with her, the others stood back and silently watched. Then, she began to recite racist jokes about our race. "What, you don't understand what I'm saying, you should've learned some English before coming to America, or are Asians all deaf? She laughed. "N*gga, they are probably all deaf." "Can you be more mature!" "Where did you learn that from?" "You would be an awful person growing up." We fired back trying to not offend her the way she did to us. It was a two on two, but no matter how hard we argued, they would just run their mouths like a jackhammer jammed on. They continued to go off topic insulting us instead of answering our question. It was at this moment, my friend Austin came in to attempt to salvage the situation. Austin is a year older than me, he is in high school, but looks like an adult. There was a chance of winning. "Calm down, don't cause any trouble kids." Austin Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Self Autobiography Essay Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the body. My work is autobiographical in the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social surroundings. The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist. These are themes I spent a great deal of time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art Education, which was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art history; and their relationship to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature of my artistic interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It presents an individual identity in a narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private, fictitious and real are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present this as honestly or sincerely as possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can also be a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Autobiographical Essay Entry Slip Autobiographical Essay Entry Slip Writing the autobiographical essay can be compared to a Monday. This was the first essay I wrote in composition, and I knew if I was going to pass this class with the grade that I would be happy with, it would take hard work and a great deal of motivation. Cross country is a strenuous sport. If I wanted times I could be happy with, I needed to work hard to earn them. Monday is the first day of the week, which means there are five days standing in the way of the weekend and myself. As I wrote the autobiographical paper, I realized this was only the first paper out of five. If i was going to reach the finish line, I would have to run the race. When Mr.s Gelwicks first assigned this essay, I was clueless as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Autobiographical Memory Essay `Memory` is a label for a diverse set of cognitive capacities by which humans and perhaps other animals retain information and reconstruct past experiences, usually for present purposes. Autobiographical memory is a complex and multiply determined skill, consisting of neurological, social, cognitive, and linguistic components. At most beasic level, autobiographical memories refer to personally experienced past events. Over the past decade the research into autobiographical memory has led to an account of human memory in which personal goals play a major role in the formationk, access and construction of specific memories Episodic memory is reconceived as a memory system that retains highly detailed sensory perceptual knowledge of...show more content... Autobiographical memory contains the information you have about yourself. There are three different types of autobiographical memory. They include:personal memory, autobiographical fact, and generic personal memory. Personal memory consists of an image based representations of a single unrepeated event. The next type is autobiographical fact. This is identical to personal memory except for the fact that the memory is not image based. The final type of autobiographical memory is generic personal memory. This is similar to personal memory but the event is repeated or a series of similar events occur and are represented in a more abstract form. The psychologist William Brewer defines recollective episodic memory as a `reliving` of hte individual phenomenal experience from a specific moment in their past, accompanied by a belief that the remembered episode was personally experienced by the individual in their past . Significant psychological complexitiy is required, on such views, for genuine episodic remebering. The concept of `episodic memory was originally proposed by Tulving (1972) and later elaborated . We conceive of episodic memory as a system that contains experience–near, highly event specific, sensory–perceptual details of recent experiences–experiences that lasted for comparatively short periods of time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Autobiographical Memory What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to answer the first, but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a select few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus answering the second question would not be difficult at all. They are classified as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a relatively recent discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM, possible links...show more content... The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self–referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional, social, and self–relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey & Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could also include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals with regular or poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in information transfer between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh & LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the superior memory individuals with HSAM Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Autobiographical Portfolio Creating this autobiographical portfolio was pretty difficult at first because I had not realized what I was going to write about. Initially, my project was just a lot of drafts of documents and I had to do my best to try and combine them all honestly. It was not easy at first but after all the typing was finished this project became extremely easy. It became just about getting things done and making sure they meant word count (if they had a word count). What I learned about myself as a writer is that of course I should work on becoming a better writer and work harder on making sure all my writings easily convey the message that I am trying to send. More or less I have to work hard to be less confusing and get better at putting my thoughts Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. The Reflection Of The Autobiography Of My Life Henry Ford once said," Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success." I believe everything that happens in life happens at the time we take our first breath in the world. We typically get our greatest memories and our greatest successes at our life's milestones. Some of these milestones include, graduating high school, attending college, getting engaged, and getting married. These milestones are what shape us into the person we are today. May I present you the graduating Class of 2013...the moment our lives change, the moment we turn the page to write about the next chapters in the autobiography of our life. High School is where our lives start to shift us and molds us into the person we are today. Growing up I never really remember staying at one school an entire year. My parents got divorced when I was only five years old. When I was nine my mother remarried, her husband at the time had a job that kept us on the move year after year never really getting us to know anyone in the town we moved to. It wasn't until my junior year in high school when my mother and her husband got a divorce and my mom moved back to her home town. Knowing now I would be able to start to make friends and able to focus on a social life as well as an academic lifestyle. I was wrong being I was transferring from school to school I was behind in some of my classes and I wasn't learning as fast and effective as the other students. • 16. Autobiographical Statement Essay A few years ago I found myself on a train heading from Amsterdam to Hamburg. I had just spent several days traveling through the Netherlands and was going to end my fall break trip in Germany. The cities I picked had been arbitrary. All I knew was that in the three and a half months I was studying abroad I would see as much of the world as possible. This often meant frantically searching the internet for cheap flights, bus tickets, and hostiles, and only getting to spend a day or two in a magnificent city. This also meant traveling alone. As I relaxed in my seat and scribbled postcards to my friends and parents, I was at the most peace I had ever been. It was not without chaos though. I had taken the wrong tram that morning, been unable...show more content... I had to learn to find and trust my community. That peace and serenity I felt on a bumpy train ride stayed with me as a constant reminder of the peace possible in the world. Having dealt with such a mind–consuming illness I am often envious of those that need not be mindful of every moment and event of every day in order to survive. However, I know that my increased awareness also makes my life that much brighter. It allows me to see and feel other people's pain. It has allowed me to help others through the same difficult times I once faced. My recovery was all about balance and my life continues to be about that same sense of equilibrium. About working hard and playing hard. About spending time alone, running, meditating, dancing, or writing–and by engaging in conversation, debating, embracing, dancing (with others), and attending worship. About taking part in extracurricular activities, academics, and volunteering and still giving myself time to have coffee with a friend or read alone in the park. Growing up Catholic and attending parochial school from kindergarten through my senior year of high school meant that religion was constantly around me. However, in contrast to this academic setting, God was absent from my daily life. Although they sent me to a Catholic school and insisted I attend mass every Sunday, my parents never once mentioned God, prayer, or spirituality within the home. • 17. Autobiography in Psychology Many times in people 's lives, they are asked to define their personality and they do not know how to respond. What is the actual definition of personality and how can we define our own? Personality is a unique consistent pattern of thinking, feeling, and acting. In other words, personality is a combination of characteristics or qualities that form the person in you. Like a painting, there are many different color schemes that combine in order to show the big picture. There is no such thing as a person without a personality. Some people may not have very extroverted characteristics; this means that they have a shy or colorless personality. Now its time for me to define my personality. Who am I? I now understood that the stalk didn 't really drop me off at my doorstep. I was now introduced to the next bond in my life, the female. Females have had a major impact on the way a man governs his life. At this time in my life I knew to be more adamant about my hygiene and the way I present myself in public. This way, I might attract the same girls that attracted my attention. I was fairly good at conversing with the opposite sex and this was some sort of fulfillment in my life that greatly influenced the way I think and act, not only to impress others but also to feel good about myself. After I hit puberty, I realized a new Joey. A more a mature Joey, who started caring for the feelings of others rather than just myself. It was a good time for this to happen since my Bar Mitzvah was right around the corner. It was soon time for me to be recognized as a man. It was also a time where I found myself connected to God. This spiritual feeling gave me a stronger guidance which I did not yet realize until I was a little older. • 18. Autobiographical future thinking and autobiographical memory Much research has been done on the default mode network, a set of various brain regions commonly active when individuals think for themselves undisturbed. This network has been associated with past recall, navigation, considering alternative perspectives and imagining future events (Buckner & Carroll, 2007). Research examining remembering the past and imagining the future have shown there to extensive neural overlap when these processes are engaged (Bar, 2007; Buckner and Carroll, 2007; Gilbert and Wilson, 2007; Hassabis and Maguire, 2007; Schacter and Addis 2007a, 2007b). • 19. Autobiography Essay While growing up, my family always pushed me to learn something new. Being a kindergarten teacher, my mother taught me the basics of reading and writing. Those basic skills laid the foundation for all of my reading and writing experiences. In elementary school, book reports and spelling bees were my favorite activities. Throughout middle and high school, I had one determined teacher, who was my teacher for all of my reading and writing classes. I believe experiences in my early years, my interests in elementary school, and a specific teacher in high school made me the reader and writer I am today. To emphasize, being the child of a teacher definitely has its benefits. As soon as I physically could, I was reading and writing. When I was younger I loved Scooby Doo books. My earliest memory happens to be when my mom was in the hospital having my twin sisters. I was waiting outside, reading a Scooby Doo book. I remember my first day of kindergarten very vividly. The competition of trying to win a book report was something I was interested in. Around fourth grade, my school started to have spelling bees. My best friend was the only person, other than myself, who wanted to win. If I won at my elementary school, I could proceed to district, state, and even national levels.
