Importance Of Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness is a person's understanding of the differences between themselves and people from other countries. These differences include a
person's attitudes toward certain things, values, and traditions that each person might hold. The purpose of cultural awareness is for us to bridge
the divide between people from different countries than us and truly get to know them. The benefits to this are that if we can break down the
differences between us and people from diverse cultures we can create a better workplace and world. If we are more connected as a society and better
understand where each other are coming from and the perspectives we carry with us it will create a better society for all of us.
How Culture and Experiences Have Shaped My Own Perspectives, Beliefs, and ValuesMy culture that I was raised in and the experiences that I have
had have made a profound impact on my perspectives, beliefs, and the values that I hold. I grew up in Charlotte, NC which is affectionately known as
the Bible Belt and that was very true in my upbringing and the culture that I was raised in. I was taught by my parents to always answer "yes sir" and
"yes ma'am" and go to church on Sundays that was what I was taught. Many of my beliefs were based off what I had been taught and the way I was
raised, but for much of my young life I did not have that many different experiences that shaped me. This changed however as I started growing and
trying new things that really put me out of my

Cultural Awareness Assignment
Thinking about which country and culture to choose for this assignment was a difficult process because there is a plethora to choose from! I decided
to choose Spain as I lived there for a short period of time. Spain, is a country located in western Europe and is bordered by Portugal, France, and
Gibraltar. It lies between the Mediterranean Sea to its east and the North Atlantic Ocean to its west. When trying to understand a culture from a foreign
perspective, it is important to analyze the geography that makes up that country.
Spain's geography is unique because it is located on the Iberian Peninsula with mountainous terrain throughout the landmass. The central portion of
Spain mostly consists of high plateaus of land surround by rocky hills. Integrated into these plateaus are rural farm and cattle lands that create much of
Spain's agricultural industry. This industry comes through the harvesting of barley and wheat, however, the crops that produce the most value consist
of citrus fruits such as oranges. The climate of Spain varies from region to region, but in a majority of the country during the summer months, it is arid
and hot. Temperatures often climb into the triple digits, however there is relatively no humidity. During the winter, temperatures tend to hover around
fifty degrees Fahrenheit. It is difficult to pinpoint regions of agriculture on a map of Spain, because the country is dotted with various mountain ranges.
Examples of such

The United States of America is full of a variety of different cultures. It is imperative to understand each others cultures to be able to live amongst one
another. I will be covering some different degrees of cultural awareness. The United States of America has many different physical geography regions
that suit different cultures. America has been in numerous military conflicts that have affected the society and itself physically. Cultural awareness
becomes central when we have to interact with people from other cultures. People see, interpret, and evaluate things in a different ways. What is
considered an appropriate behavior in one culture is frequently inappropriate in another one. Misunderstandings arise when I use my meanings to
make sense of your reality. Cultural Awareness is the foundation of communication and it involves the ability of standing back from us and
becoming aware of our cultural values, beliefs, and perceptions. To better our culture we need to ask ourselves, why do we do things this way or
why do we act a particular way? When we find these answers, we can better live and socialize amongst one another. Misinterpretations occur
primarily when we lack awareness of our own behavioral rules and project them on others. In absence of better knowledge, we tend to assume, instead
of finding out what a behavior means to the person involved. Becoming aware of our cultural dynamics is a difficult task because culture is not
conscious to us. Since

Culture and the environment affect a business in many ways. Culture is not simply a different language, a different shade of skin, or different styles of
food. Culture, and the environment in which you are a part of, affect the running of day to day business operations of all companies' day in and day
out. This paper will assess how Linda Myers, from the article, "The would–be pioneer," (Green, S., 2011) was affected by the huge culture shock of
working for a global conglomerate from Seoul, South Korea. We will discuss what went wrong with Ms. Myers approach to business, Hofstede's five

For Ms. Myers, being successful in America, did not translate to being successful in South Korea. Although she was an executive, she had many
barriers that hindered her from adequately helping the company in the ways that she wanted.
Hofstede's Five Dimensions of Culture Dr. Geert Hofstede created the first four dimensions of culture in the 1970's after analyzing statistical data
from IBM over the course of many years. In the 1990's he created the fifth dimension after noticing specific cultural differences in Asian countries and
their ties to Confucian philosophy. (www.mindtools.com) The five dimensions are as follows: Power/Distance (PD), Individualism (IDV),
Masculinity (MAS), Uncertainty/Avoidance Index (UAI), and Long Term Orientation (LTO). I will only discuss a few of these as they seem more
prominent to this case. First, let's talk about the Power/Distance (PD) dimension as it pertains to Ms. Myers in South Korea. Power/Distance (PD),
"refers to the degree of inequality that exists– and is accepted– among people with and without power. A high PD score indicates that society accepts an
unequal distribution of power, and that people understand "their place" in the system. Low PD means that power is shared and well dispersed."
(www.mindtools.com) As an example from the article, Myers goes on to say, "there were basically four levels: VP, director, manager, and worker bee.
You only talked to people at your level." SK Telecom boasted that

Reflection On Cultural Awareness
Critical Reflection Essay
Introduction
An individual's culture refers to their personal ideas, customs, and social behaviour. It can be developed from aspects of their lives as well as individual
experiences. Once these elements are understood this becomes a person's cultural awareness. Cultural awareness is vital as a foundation of
communication and organisation between people of diverse cultures, this then develops into cultural intelligence. Cultural intelligence is understood as
a person's capability to not only communicate but work and relate effectively in culturally diverse situations. Cultural self–awareness is critically
important in developing cultural intelligence this is because one must first understand themselves and their culture before they are able to learn and
respect others. Global awareness of diversity has increased vastly with every new generation. This is due to many factors including growth,
diversification, organization of cultures and building relationships.
Cultural Awareness
The complete diversity of the people in the world means that everyone we meet has their own culture. A person's culture refers to their ideas,
customs, beliefs and their social behaviour. The term cultural awareness is defined as the initial foundation of communication between people of
diverse cultures and it involves the ability to stand back from one's self to become aware of their own cultural values, beliefs, behaviours and
perceptions. It explains why things are done a certain way, how the world is seen and why people react the way they do. "Cultural awareness becomes
central when we have to interact with people from other cultures" (Quappe & Cantatore, 2005, p. 1). Everyone is different and different people
interpret and evaluate things in many ways. This awareness is important in avoiding miscommunication and disrespecting other people. Acts and
behaviours that are appropriate and understood in one culture can be considered inappropriate or disrespectful in another. Cultural self–awareness is
important in assisting a person in becoming more culturally intelligent.
Cultural Intelligence
Cultural intelligence is understood as the capability to relate and work effectively in a culturally diverse

The Importance Of Cultural Self-Awareness
In today's multicultural society it is important to have the ability to adapt to the ideas and customs of new cultures that we are exposed to. Through
exposure to these cultures we need to create an understanding that all cultures have different values and morals, and although not the same to our own
it does not mean that they're wrong. We are challenged with differences inculture, but we must familiarize ourselves to have the ability to adjust and
accept others so that we may co–exist. Cultural self–Awareness is important in helping us to understand and develop these skills, which will ultimately
lead to cultural intelligence. Cultural self–awareness is described as the sensitivity that one individual possess regarding another person's culture. It s
recognizing and appreciating the similarities and differences that exist between cultures, and how to effectively co–exist ("cultural awareness", 2017).
Every individual will have their own cultural identity and values and beliefs that create their cultural being. Cultural intelligence on the other hand is
the ability of an individual to manage and function effectively within society in culturally diverse situations (Ang & Dyne, 2015). What may seem a
normal behavior or belief in one culture may be looked upon as inappropriate in another (Quappe and Cantatore, 2005). Cultural self–awareness and
cultural intelligence are both interrelated and on can not exist without the other.
To adapt to a new culture, we must understand and

CULTURAL AWARENESS AND THE ADVANTAGES OF STUDENT TEACHING ABROAD
To speak about cultural awareness and the benefits of teaching abroad prior to teaching in the United States, we need define culture. "Culture is a
collection of information (or meanings) that is (a) nongenetically transmitted between individuals, (b) more or less shared within a population of
individuals, and (c) maintained across some generations over a period of time. As such, culture plays an important role in the formation of individual
and collective self–concepts or identities and has implications for human psychology." (Kashima, 2010). The study of culture can be studied dating
back to Herodotus's History in Greek or Chunqiu in early China. Contemporary studies trying to define culture have their roots in the 18th century with
what we know as the Enlightenment as mention in Kashima's article.
Subcultures
"As mentioned before, there are also distinct cultural groups that coexist and operate within a larger society alongside other cultural groups–these are
known as "subcultures." The concept of subcultures has become very complex in modern society. For instance, subcultures can take many forms and
include social entities as well as human civilizations. These can include corporations (e.g., Apple, Starbucks), technology (e.g., computers, cell phones),
social network sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter), gangs (e.g., urban street gangs, motorcycle gangs), and religions (e.g., Christianity, Islam).

Cultural Awareness Of A Counselor
As a counselor it is essential to have cultural awareness for groups that differ from your culture. To become an effective counselor one must deal with
their biases, stereotypes and judgments. Also, it is equally important to challenge ones thoughts and opinions on particular populations that you have
prejudgments about. Dealing with these stereotypes and prejudgments allows oneself to effectively provide services to the client. If biases go undealt
with, this may become evident in therapy. In order to face these biases it is important to put one in situations that may be uncomfortable to gain
understanding and insight on the population.
As a student taking multicultural counseling course I became aware that I have biases and prejudices concerning other religions. To gain insight and
understanding on other religions besides Christianity, I had an interview with an African American who identifies as a polytheist. Also, the purpose of
this interview was to challenge some of my thoughts and judgements. This interview was done face to face on October 23, 2015 for thirty three
minutes. The interviewee was asked eight questions. Interestingly, the interviewee grew up in a Christian church and in his adult years chose to
become a polytheist.
The interviewee does not actively participate in an organized religion. The interviewee stated that he does not actively participate in an organized for
several reasons. He stated that he grew in a church and that he went to church every day

Cultural Awareness In Nursing
1. Rheumatic Heart Disease is a condition in which the valves of heart are damaged due to acute rheumatic fever. Lack of personal hygiene is the
main factor that led to Shakira's disease as in remote areas, there is lack of cleanliness and sanitation that resulted in RHD. Secondly, frequent travels
from remote area to another remote area also have contributed to her disease. Due to lack of hygiene, there are not enough facilities in remote areas
and as a result, her family members are not able to take proper care of her. The treatment of RHD includes– a)Antibiotics for infection of heart valves.
b)Surgery of heart valves to repair/replace damaged valves. c)Insertion of balloons to open up stuck valves. d)Medicines to make the blood thinner to
prevent stroke. Statistics– Almost 1479 cases of RHD were registered in Northern Territory in the year 2010 out of which 1379 cases (93%) involved
indigenous people. The proportion of these people was 26 times higher than non–indigenous people. 2. Cultural Awareness– As an enrolled nurse,
nurses should not only take care of patients of their own tradition but also be able to take care of patients of multiple cultures and beliefs. For
example, if a nurse has to take care of a patient of Catholic background, a nurse has to be culturally aware of the patient's beliefs, customs, and
perspectives. Cultural Sensitivity– It is being aware of the cultural differences and similarities between the people of various backgrounds. For example–

The Importance of Cultural Awareness
Introduction
Recently, one of my mother's colleagues lost her father. The deceased lived in one of the urban areas of Nairobi and the family of the colleague
saw it fit to bury their loved one the weekend after he passed. To them, this was an appropriate decision as any delays would rack up higher bills for
the family and would be a waste of time. However, the extended paternal family of the deceased, who lived in rural areas, would hear none of it. It
was their custom to mourn before burying their dead and would carry out this period as long as necessary. To them, a burial occurring soon after death
implied there was something wrong with the deceased and that the family wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible. Cross cultural
misunderstanding created complications in the process and the colleagues' family eventually had to concede to appease the other.
According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary culture is "the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social
group" or "the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time." It can even be the manner in which a person processes
information, acts or labors that governs an area or organization, like a school. (Culture [Def. 2]., n.d.) A culture is formed by a group of people
handing down their mannerisms, way of life, food, art and language to their successors. Culture will both directly and indirectly affect the

Global Awareness
Global awareness is the understanding of global and cultural perspectives with social, political, cultural, and environmental components. The key to
understanding the commonalities and differences between people lies in global awareness while also promoting sensitivity to the impact globalization
has on the world. Awareness of the interconnectedness of the world today promotes better partnerships between educational institutions, government
organizations, and businesses that work on an international level. The increase in worldwide poverty levels, health epidemics, and economic
recessions call for interdependence between nations and a concerted effort for global peace. The citizen of the world is also held responsible for
everyday actions and how they may affect someone on the other side of the globe. Our world is diverse. With the advent of accessible travel between
most countries, many cultures integrate with others. Travel to a different country other than one's own can often cause a clash with the individual's
sense of culture. Social media plays a role in our connectedness to other parts of the world and the events that take place there. Local events are
increasingly becoming global knowledge as the internet opens up availability of information to all parts of the world. Other countries with their own set
of culturally influenced principles have opinions over policies, laws, events, etc that occur in foreign nations. These opinions may not change

Assess The Importance Of Cultural Awareness
As counselors, it is our professional responsibility to be aware of the biases we possess. In the context of diversity, and from the viewpoint of
multicultural competence one must delve into the core of their individual value system. Upon acknowledgment, of one's personal values, one embarks
on a journey of self–discovery, a process which is essential. Through being cognizant of the lens through which one, views the world, can one recognize
that each of our clients, despite their sociocultural, socioeconomic status, or ethnicity; they too observe the world through their lens. Therefore, it is the
counselor's responsibility to recognize the differences that exist amid counselor and client, to assure the needs and values of the client are satisfied. In
the end, an experienced counselor proceeds to broaden their cultural competency.
The following is a mock scenario intended to illustrate the importance of cultural awareness:

is rapid throughout our global society. Still, it remains a counselor's duty to educate oneself on the differences that comprise our client's culture
heritage. In order to better appreciate their personal journey, their private and collective pain. In closing, one should expand their horizons, visit cultural

International Culture : Cultural Awareness
International Culture As defined in the Oxford dictionary, culture is the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society
("Culture"). In general, culture is divided into two categories, social and organizational. Social culture is the shared values and knowledge of a society
whereas organizational culture is the shared values and knowledge of an organization (Payne). The two cultural categories are both relevant to Snap
Fitness's desire to open club locations in Tokyo, Japan. The social culture is important for the organization towards attaining a greater understanding of
the customer. A greater understanding of the customer will allow Snap's management to create culturally tailored fitness programs and culturally
sensitive targeted marketing thereby increasing overall club membership. A thorough understanding of Japanese organizational culture will improve
management's ability to effectively mesh Snap's organizational culture in the operation of the new fitness club.
Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity The National Center for Cultural Competence defines "cultural awareness" as being cognizant, observant, and
conscious of similarities and differences among and between cultural groups (Goode). Awareness of culture when traveling to a foreign country is
invaluable knowledge which only serves to enhance one's travel experience. "There is no more noble calling than to help the people of the world live

Indigenous Cultural Awareness
PURPOSE
To highlight the importance of Indigenous cultural awareness within the healthcare system, in order to enable effective support for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander service users.
RECOMMENDATIONS
For the ACSQHC to implement a program whereby Indigenous Australians are hired to join the health care workforce.
BACKGROUND
Indigenous Australians have a lower life expectancy than non–Indigenous populations (Le Grand et al. 2017, p. 164). This may be due to a failure to
implement effective treatment for Indigenous–specific issues (Vos et al. 2009, p. 475). Indigenous–specific health care services are necessary, as they
provide programs that address said issues (Harifield et al. 2018, p.1). Despite the Australian Government implementing

Importance Of Cultural Awareness In Germany
Cultural Awareness
7.442 billion is the number of people in the world today, but out of all of those people each is uniquely different in many ways such as gender, height,
personality, sexuality, and even by their culture. Within culture there lie 4 components that make up a culture which includes values, beliefs, behaviors
and norms. Each culture is different in its own way which means there is always something new to learn about other cultures that you have never
experienced, and it's important to have knowledge about other cultures because you will have a better understanding of how people do things
differently around the world. Today I will be discussingGermany and many different aspects of its culture and why it's important including geography,
languages, religions etc.
The location of Germany Is exactly in the center of Europe and is the second largest country in population, coming in second after Russia.
Geographically, Germany is the 7th largest in size in Europe. Most of the land is used as farmland but also has numerous rivers which were formed
by retreating glaciers from the last Ice Age. This is mostly in Northern Germany while in the southern and eastern area there are many hills and
mountains. All across Germany there are many man made canals made to connect waterways for commercial and local traffic. Germany used to be
divided into 2 sides which were East and West, until 1898 when the two had unified and became 16 states combining the two sides. North

Importance Of Cultural Awareness

  • 1. Importance Of Cultural Awareness Cultural Awareness is a person's understanding of the differences between themselves and people from other countries. These differences include a person's attitudes toward certain things, values, and traditions that each person might hold. The purpose of cultural awareness is for us to bridge the divide between people from different countries than us and truly get to know them. The benefits to this are that if we can break down the differences between us and people from diverse cultures we can create a better workplace and world. If we are more connected as a society and better understand where each other are coming from and the perspectives we carry with us it will create a better society for all of us. How Culture and Experiences Have Shaped My Own Perspectives, Beliefs, and ValuesMy culture that I was raised in and the experiences that I have had have made a profound impact on my perspectives, beliefs, and the values that I hold. I grew up in Charlotte, NC which is affectionately known as the Bible Belt and that was very true in my upbringing and the culture that I was raised in. I was taught by my parents to always answer "yes sir" and "yes ma'am" and go to church on Sundays that was what I was taught. Many of my beliefs were based off what I had been taught and the way I was raised, but for much of my young life I did not have that many different experiences that shaped me. This changed however as I started growing and trying new things that really put me out of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Assignment On Cultural Awareness Cultural Awareness Assignment Thinking about which country and culture to choose for this assignment was a difficult process because there is a plethora to choose from! I decided to choose Spain as I lived there for a short period of time. Spain, is a country located in western Europe and is bordered by Portugal, France, and Gibraltar. It lies between the Mediterranean Sea to its east and the North Atlantic Ocean to its west. When trying to understand a culture from a foreign perspective, it is important to analyze the geography that makes up that country. Spain's geography is unique because it is located on the Iberian Peninsula with mountainous terrain throughout the landmass. The central portion of Spain mostly consists of high plateaus of land surround by rocky hills. Integrated into these plateaus are rural farm and cattle lands that create much of Spain's agricultural industry. This industry comes through the harvesting of barley and wheat, however, the crops that produce the most value consist of citrus fruits such as oranges. The climate of Spain varies from region to region, but in a majority of the country during the summer months, it is arid and hot. Temperatures often climb into the triple digits, however there is relatively no humidity. During the winter, temperatures tend to hover around fifty degrees Fahrenheit. It is difficult to pinpoint regions of agriculture on a map of Spain, because the country is dotted with various mountain ranges. Examples of such Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The United States of America is full of a variety of different cultures. It is imperative to understand each others cultures to be able to live amongst one another. I will be covering some different degrees of cultural awareness. The United States of America has many different physical geography regions that suit different cultures. America has been in numerous military conflicts that have affected the society and itself physically. Cultural awareness becomes central when we have to interact with people from other cultures. People see, interpret, and evaluate things in a different ways. What is considered an appropriate behavior in one culture is frequently inappropriate in another one. Misunderstandings arise when I use my meanings to make sense of your reality. Cultural Awareness is the foundation of communication and it involves the ability of standing back from us and becoming aware of our cultural values, beliefs, and perceptions. To better our culture we need to ask ourselves, why do we do things this way or why do we act a particular way? When we find these answers, we can better live and socialize amongst one another. Misinterpretations occur primarily when we lack awareness of our own behavioral rules and project them on others. In absence of better knowledge, we tend to assume, instead of finding out what a behavior means to the person involved. Becoming aware of our cultural dynamics is a difficult task because culture is not conscious to us. Since Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Cultural Awareness Trident University Robert Miller Case Study Module 1 MGT 501 Mgt. and org. Behavior Dr. Frank Nolan 23 May 2013 Culture and the environment affect a business in many ways. Culture is not simply a different language, a different shade of skin, or different styles of food. Culture, and the environment in which you are a part of, affect the running of day to day business operations of all companies' day in and day out. This paper will assess how Linda Myers, from the article, "The would–be pioneer," (Green, S., 2011) was affected by the huge culture shock of working for a global conglomerate from Seoul, South Korea. We will discuss what went wrong with Ms. Myers approach to business, Hofstede's five dimensions of culture as it...show more content... For Ms. Myers, being successful in America, did not translate to being successful in South Korea. Although she was an executive, she had many barriers that hindered her from adequately helping the company in the ways that she wanted. Hofstede's Five Dimensions of Culture Dr. Geert Hofstede created the first four dimensions of culture in the 1970's after analyzing statistical data from IBM over the course of many years. In the 1990's he created the fifth dimension after noticing specific cultural differences in Asian countries and their ties to Confucian philosophy. (www.mindtools.com) The five dimensions are as follows: Power/Distance (PD), Individualism (IDV), Masculinity (MAS), Uncertainty/Avoidance Index (UAI), and Long Term Orientation (LTO). I will only discuss a few of these as they seem more prominent to this case. First, let's talk about the Power/Distance (PD) dimension as it pertains to Ms. Myers in South Korea. Power/Distance (PD), "refers to the degree of inequality that exists– and is accepted– among people with and without power. A high PD score indicates that society accepts an unequal distribution of power, and that people understand "their place" in the system. Low PD means that power is shared and well dispersed." (www.mindtools.com) As an example from the article, Myers goes on to say, "there were basically four levels: VP, director, manager, and worker bee. You only talked to people at your level." SK Telecom boasted that

  • 6. Reflection On Cultural Awareness Critical Reflection Essay Introduction An individual's culture refers to their personal ideas, customs, and social behaviour. It can be developed from aspects of their lives as well as individual experiences. Once these elements are understood this becomes a person's cultural awareness. Cultural awareness is vital as a foundation of communication and organisation between people of diverse cultures, this then develops into cultural intelligence. Cultural intelligence is understood as a person's capability to not only communicate but work and relate effectively in culturally diverse situations. Cultural self–awareness is critically important in developing cultural intelligence this is because one must first understand themselves and their culture before they are able to learn and respect others. Global awareness of diversity has increased vastly with every new generation. This is due to many factors including growth, diversification, organization of cultures and building relationships. Cultural Awareness The complete diversity of the people in the world means that everyone we meet has their own culture. A person's culture refers to their ideas, customs, beliefs and their social behaviour. The term cultural awareness is defined as the initial foundation of communication between people of diverse cultures and it involves the ability to stand back from one's self to become aware of their own cultural values, beliefs, behaviours and perceptions. It explains why things are done a certain way, how the world is seen and why people react the way they do. "Cultural awareness becomes central when we have to interact with people from other cultures" (Quappe & Cantatore, 2005, p. 1). Everyone is different and different people interpret and evaluate things in many ways. This awareness is important in avoiding miscommunication and disrespecting other people. Acts and behaviours that are appropriate and understood in one culture can be considered inappropriate or disrespectful in another. Cultural self–awareness is important in assisting a person in becoming more culturally intelligent. Cultural Intelligence Cultural intelligence is understood as the capability to relate and work effectively in a culturally diverse

  • 8. The Importance Of Cultural Self-Awareness In today's multicultural society it is important to have the ability to adapt to the ideas and customs of new cultures that we are exposed to. Through exposure to these cultures we need to create an understanding that all cultures have different values and morals, and although not the same to our own it does not mean that they're wrong. We are challenged with differences inculture, but we must familiarize ourselves to have the ability to adjust and accept others so that we may co–exist. Cultural self–Awareness is important in helping us to understand and develop these skills, which will ultimately lead to cultural intelligence. Cultural self–awareness is described as the sensitivity that one individual possess regarding another person's culture. It s recognizing and appreciating the similarities and differences that exist between cultures, and how to effectively co–exist ("cultural awareness", 2017). Every individual will have their own cultural identity and values and beliefs that create their cultural being. Cultural intelligence on the other hand is the ability of an individual to manage and function effectively within society in culturally diverse situations (Ang & Dyne, 2015). What may seem a normal behavior or belief in one culture may be looked upon as inappropriate in another (Quappe and Cantatore, 2005). Cultural self–awareness and cultural intelligence are both interrelated and on can not exist without the other. To adapt to a new culture, we must understand and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Advantage Of Cultural Awareness CULTURAL AWARENESS AND THE ADVANTAGES OF STUDENT TEACHING ABROAD To speak about cultural awareness and the benefits of teaching abroad prior to teaching in the United States, we need define culture. "Culture is a collection of information (or meanings) that is (a) nongenetically transmitted between individuals, (b) more or less shared within a population of individuals, and (c) maintained across some generations over a period of time. As such, culture plays an important role in the formation of individual and collective self–concepts or identities and has implications for human psychology." (Kashima, 2010). The study of culture can be studied dating back to Herodotus's History in Greek or Chunqiu in early China. Contemporary studies trying to define culture have their roots in the 18th century with what we know as the Enlightenment as mention in Kashima's article. Subcultures "As mentioned before, there are also distinct cultural groups that coexist and operate within a larger society alongside other cultural groups–these are known as "subcultures." The concept of subcultures has become very complex in modern society. For instance, subcultures can take many forms and include social entities as well as human civilizations. These can include corporations (e.g., Apple, Starbucks), technology (e.g., computers, cell phones), social network sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter), gangs (e.g., urban street gangs, motorcycle gangs), and religions (e.g., Christianity, Islam). • 10. Cultural Awareness Of A Counselor As a counselor it is essential to have cultural awareness for groups that differ from your culture. To become an effective counselor one must deal with their biases, stereotypes and judgments. Also, it is equally important to challenge ones thoughts and opinions on particular populations that you have prejudgments about. Dealing with these stereotypes and prejudgments allows oneself to effectively provide services to the client. If biases go undealt with, this may become evident in therapy. In order to face these biases it is important to put one in situations that may be uncomfortable to gain understanding and insight on the population. As a student taking multicultural counseling course I became aware that I have biases and prejudices concerning other religions. To gain insight and understanding on other religions besides Christianity, I had an interview with an African American who identifies as a polytheist. Also, the purpose of this interview was to challenge some of my thoughts and judgements. This interview was done face to face on October 23, 2015 for thirty three minutes. The interviewee was asked eight questions. Interestingly, the interviewee grew up in a Christian church and in his adult years chose to become a polytheist. The interviewee does not actively participate in an organized religion. The interviewee stated that he does not actively participate in an organized for several reasons. He stated that he grew in a church and that he went to church every day Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Lack of personal hygiene is the main factor that led to Shakira's disease as in remote areas, there is lack of cleanliness and sanitation that resulted in RHD. Secondly, frequent travels from remote area to another remote area also have contributed to her disease. Due to lack of hygiene, there are not enough facilities in remote areas and as a result, her family members are not able to take proper care of her. The treatment of RHD includes– a)Antibiotics for infection of heart valves. b)Surgery of heart valves to repair/replace damaged valves. c)Insertion of balloons to open up stuck valves. d)Medicines to make the blood thinner to prevent stroke. Statistics– Almost 1479 cases of RHD were registered in Northern Territory in the year 2010 out of which 1379 cases (93%) involved indigenous people. The proportion of these people was 26 times higher than non–indigenous people. 2. Cultural Awareness– As an enrolled nurse, nurses should not only take care of patients of their own tradition but also be able to take care of patients of multiple cultures and beliefs. For example, if a nurse has to take care of a patient of Catholic background, a nurse has to be culturally aware of the patient's beliefs, customs, and perspectives. • 13. The Importance Of Cultural Awareness Essay The Importance of Cultural Awareness Introduction Recently, one of my mother's colleagues lost her father. The deceased lived in one of the urban areas of Nairobi and the family of the colleague saw it fit to bury their loved one the weekend after he passed. To them, this was an appropriate decision as any delays would rack up higher bills for the family and would be a waste of time. However, the extended paternal family of the deceased, who lived in rural areas, would hear none of it. It was their custom to mourn before burying their dead and would carry out this period as long as necessary. To them, a burial occurring soon after death implied there was something wrong with the deceased and that the family wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible. Cross cultural misunderstanding created complications in the process and the colleagues' family eventually had to concede to appease the other. According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary culture is "the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group" or "the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time." It can even be the manner in which a person processes information, acts or labors that governs an area or organization, like a school. (Culture [Def. 2]., n.d.) A culture is formed by a group of people handing down their mannerisms, way of life, food, art and language to their successors. • 14. Global Awareness Global awareness is the understanding of global and cultural perspectives with social, political, cultural, and environmental components. The key to understanding the commonalities and differences between people lies in global awareness while also promoting sensitivity to the impact globalization has on the world. Awareness of the interconnectedness of the world today promotes better partnerships between educational institutions, government organizations, and businesses that work on an international level. The increase in worldwide poverty levels, health epidemics, and economic recessions call for interdependence between nations and a concerted effort for global peace. The citizen of the world is also held responsible for everyday actions and how they may affect someone on the other side of the globe. Our world is diverse. With the advent of accessible travel between most countries, many cultures integrate with others. Travel to a different country other than one's own can often cause a clash with the individual's sense of culture. Social media plays a role in our connectedness to other parts of the world and the events that take place there. Local events are increasingly becoming global knowledge as the internet opens up availability of information to all parts of the world. Other countries with their own set of culturally influenced principles have opinions over policies, laws, events, etc that occur in foreign nations. These opinions may not change Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In the context of diversity, and from the viewpoint of multicultural competence one must delve into the core of their individual value system. • 18. International Culture : Cultural Awareness International Culture As defined in the Oxford dictionary, culture is the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society ("Culture"). In general, culture is divided into two categories, social and organizational. Social culture is the shared values and knowledge of a society whereas organizational culture is the shared values and knowledge of an organization (Payne). The two cultural categories are both relevant to Snap Fitness's desire to open club locations in Tokyo, Japan. The social culture is important for the organization towards attaining a greater understanding of the customer. A greater understanding of the customer will allow Snap's management to create culturally tailored fitness programs and culturally sensitive targeted marketing thereby increasing overall club membership. A thorough understanding of Japanese organizational culture will improve management's ability to effectively mesh Snap's organizational culture in the operation of the new fitness club. Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity The National Center for Cultural Competence defines "cultural awareness" as being cognizant, observant, and conscious of similarities and differences among and between cultural groups (Goode). Awareness of culture when traveling to a foreign country is invaluable knowledge which only serves to enhance one's travel experience. Indigenous Cultural Awareness PURPOSE To highlight the importance of Indigenous cultural awareness within the healthcare system, in order to enable effective support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service users. Nurses usually report that expressive patients often come from Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean background. Mrs. Mendez was expressing her pain after waking from sedation and was immediately was given morphine for the pain. The morphine did nothing to ease the pain, so doctors checked her vital signs and considered her stable. After being stereotyped, doctors discovered complication from the surgery that was treated but may have been disastrous if not treated. Jehovah's Witness prohibition about accepting blood transfusion is an excellent example of religious conflicts when providing culturally sensitive care to patients. For Jehovah's Witness choosing to have a blood transfusion can be interpreted as giving up the chance to spend eternity in heaven or paradise in exchange for a few more years on earth. Utilizing the 4 C's is a great start to providing care to all patients. Although the 4 C's helps a great deal, experience dealing with patients of cultural differences will equip you for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
