Our imaginations are ignited as we consider what sights, sounds or smells are found on a ship. When we allow ourselves to go on this imaginary
ship we are taken on a journey in our minds that allow us to experience the gift of reading and engaging our imagination at the same time. Throughout
the poem the comparison of traveling and literature show how anything is possible, even traveling to distant lands, when using our imagination and
reading literature. In line two there is reference to a book taking us "lands away" and seems to make the point that a book is the only mode of
transportation that can do that. There is further evidence that Dickinson wants us to see that literature is the best means of travel in line five of the
poem where we read "This Traverse may the poorest take". In this line we can find that regardless of financial status traveling is unlimited when
reading literature. Finally, there is excitement in the upbeat style of writing used as she reveals where literature can take us. There is some form of
transportation used in every other line of the poem and the implication that books can take you the same places transportation does. In order to further

1.What did you learn from reading this book? Did you like it? Why or why not? From reading this book, I learned that there is much more to a person
than one may think. Before, I would judge juvenile delinquents and think of them as nothing more than losers but when I read this book, my mind
completely changed. These teenagers had so much potential and in my opinion could've been prevented from doing what they did to get themselves in
juvenile hall. Predominantly, they've all came from tough backgrounds and I strongly believe the way they group up has contributed greatly to the life
choices they have made. Unfortunately, these teenagers didn't have role models or any one to look up too. Another thing I learned was that they were
not getting the help they needed. Whether it was counseling or therapy, those services were not offered to them and they could've been extremely
beneficial. These services could've helped them improve their lives, and helped them deal with the great amount of stress they experienced. Most
importantly, I learned that as a future social worker I'm most likely going to be dealing with teenagers in similar situations, therefore I must be patient,
open–mined and free of all judgment. Personally, I enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed it because it brought greater insight as to what these

"How to Mark a Book" by Mortimer J. Adler. "How to Mark a Book" by Mortimer J. Adler is an essay over the author 's belief on the importance of
marking or writing inside a book. Adler 's primary purpose is persuasive. He writes to convince the reader to partake in writing in one 's own books
when reading to become more efficient. Adler 's secondary purpose is expressive because of the way he describes his least favorite type of reader:
"There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the standard sets and best–sellers – unread, untouched. This deluded individual owns woodpulp
and ink, not books" (17–6). Adler uses a couple of patterns during his essay. The first pattern is description. He explains that the true value of a book is
in its ideas: "The soul of a book can be separated from its body. A book is more like the score of a piece of music than it is like a painting" (17–8).
Adler then uses a comparison/contrast pattern to enlighten the reader about the three kinds of book owners. His least favorite type of reader was

Sandra was known as the artistic daughter, who was always very imaginative. She always wanted to be an artist, but after coming to America, things

merit. However, most people are not inclined to presume of prevalent novels –– a classification of works with divergent writing styles that reach an
array of different individuals –– as works of literary merit. But what constitutes a piece of literary merit? It is a composed work of originality;
consisting of an author's thoughts and craft of magic: cohesive and aesthetic diction they apply to tie the novel together in order to fabricate a message

Young children are often taught that lying is one of the most wicked sins that an elementary–aged student could commit. Somewhere along the

In the topic of reading, I see myself as someone who has the ability and potential to become a great reader but, has trouble settling on a book that I
find enjoyable. Recently I do feel that I have been improving but, in the past, my history with reading was not the greatest. Unfortunately, I still cannot
say reading is a hobby of mine but, I hope that in the upcoming years that will change. In my younger years, my experience with reading was that the
teacher would assign the class a specific book and I would force myself to read. I feel like this is a big factor in the way I saw reading getting up to

There is no Frigate like a Book CH3 In the poem, "There is no Frigate like a Book", the author, Emily Dickinson, compares a book to a form of
transportation. The power of the book is one which is able to take any and all out of their normal lives and put them in a fantasy land. She first

The digital age has slowly allowed physical books to be replaced by electronic books and movies. In the last decade, the decrease in demand for hard
copy books have caused numerous bookstores to pack their bags and go out of business. It took both hope and courage for Josh Spencer to open up
his very own bookstore. On the corner of 5th and Spring street, stood a towering 12–floor structure, with what seemed like an apartment complex on
top and a bookstore below, each made distinguishable by a stone–flower pattern that bordered the edges of the building. The grey stone structure had an
antique architectural design. Massive windows enclosed by thin black frames lined the building as rusted black iron gates were left ajar to welcome
visitors. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, The Spring Arts Tower houses the renowned shop, The Last Bookstore. As I walked past the bright
orange sign that indicated the storefront, beyond the iron gates, and through the glass door, I found myself in a brightly lit four–cornered room. Each
wall was painted with colorful patterns of geometrical shapes. To my left, a cashier sat behind a counter, reading a yellowingbook. An overflowing
amount of magazines were seen on the opposite side waiting to be read.
