Future Problem Solving Persuasive Essay
Hello, I'm Jenna Brustad! I am part of the Future Problem Solving program international. This is a competition where students, grades 4 through 12,
have to find problems based on the future and create soultions for these problems. Our school starts the program in 6th grade as a class and we can
contuine on in farther grades.
At Grandview Middle School, we had a record breaking 16 students have earned the honor of going to international competition at Michigan State in
East Lansing, MI.
I am hoping to rasie $700 to cover all of the fees and expanses of going to international competition. $500 is needed to cover room and board and
$200 is needed to get a bus from Minnesota to Michigan State.
Thank you so much! I would be very appreciative

Problem solving is a universal process that allows us to make decisions on everything from what to eat and what to wear. These steps contain the
necessary knowledge that has been constructed through previous life experiences. Without sufficient experience the supports designed to strengthen
our choices are weakened ending in the ultimate failure of the problem. There are many different strategies that good problem solvers use to solve a
problem. The steps of the problem solving process are systematic and organized. First, take your time and identify the problem very carefully. Do the
research, and become informed about your subject. Few good problem solvers solve problems fast. Life choices need to be supported with well

It is without doubt that humans will encounter problems that limit access to a preferred want or need at sometime during their lives and this was no
different in my own life. Researchers D'Zurilla and Goldfried (1971) define a problem as "any life situation or task that demands a response for
adaptive or effective functioning" (415). My life situation in question became deciding between attending school leading to future desired payoffs or
working a menial full–time job that would not. The first step in the problem solving process, allowed me to identify the problem. A situation can be
perceived or thought of as problematic when an individual encounters situations disturbs them or they find that it keeps them from a goal (Bingham,
1999). The problem surfacing in affording an education and paying for everyday necessities became the central focus at that point in my life and
defined the problem that needed an immediate response. The problem solving process can best be defined as the best way to overcome obstacles in
situations and the steps used to help overcome them (Peterson et al., 2002). The second step, sort out information that is not needed provided clarity
during times in which the process seemed overwhelming. This called for a potential solution, a desired outcome and how to get there. The research that
had initially been part of the formulating method had sparked an interest in the military. This idea was supported by the benefits that outweighed

Attributes of Problem Solving Essay
There are several attributes that one must have when it comes to problem solving or approaching problems. For instance: Manner, Neutrality, and
Relativism to name a few. However I am going to identify the top three I think is most important attributes to have when going approaching any
problem of situation. We will start off with Open–mindedness. The concept of Open mindedness is allowing oneself to accept evidence and different
arguments into account of forming or revising ones beliefs and values. (http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/open–minded–inquiry/579) A person who
is open–minded will be willing to accept other sides to a problem even if it may not be in the best interest of them. For instance; I don't like the idea of

It is imperative to be alert and open–minded when listening to all aspects of a situation. Growing up talking to my parents was like talking to a brick
wall. They never cared to listen to my evidence about a problem that I caused. They always jumped to conclusions and were bias to any other
explanation but their own. Which was unfair at all levels. Lastly I will talk about Judgment. Judgment utilizes information to support a tentative factual
claim that goes beyond the available evidence (http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/open–minded–inquiry/579). Sometimes we may not always have
all the evidence we need when it comes to problem solving and making decisions, that's when judgment comes into play. We have to gather all the facts
and relevant evidence that we have to make sound decisions. Judgment is not about being right or wrong; it's about making the best choice at that
moment when need be. Every person must be able to think on their toes and be willing to make calls that no one else want to make. I read this great
quote from The Critical Thinking Community that
ATTRIBUTES OF PROBLEM
Says, "Everyone finds fault with his memory, but none with his judgment." I think this is a great saying to always remember. Being a
Non–Commissioned Officer in the Marine Corps, I always find myself having to make judgment calls for my junior Marines. One time because it was a
slow day, I made the decision to send

Define the term problem solving? Problem solving is a mental process through a detail of problem that involves analyzing and solving problems.
The goal of problem solving is to overcome the obstacles and find solution that best resolves the issue. Discuss two (2) problem solving strategies
that are used by service organization (9 mrks) BRAIN STORMING A problem solving strategy normally done between two or more people, ideas
are shared an as more ideas shared, ideas may develop. To begin brain storming a group of individuals gather with ideas and a next individual do the
recording of the ideas shared. Each individual must share their ideas, the more ideas share is better for the brain storming. Brain storming must be
done in an acceptable environment if employees are afraid their ideas may be rejected. A list must be prepared compiled and distributed to group
members for later discussion and a second meeting must held be to recommend the most appropriate solution to be used and resolved the problem.
DIAGRAMMING A problem solving strategy that provides visual representation of the problem and facts, there are four main methods: Pro/con sheet–
use to solve problem choose specific course of action. Write down the problem then draw a line in the center with one side saying pro and the next
saying con, it works well in choosing solution. Flow chart –is a helpful problem solving diagram which shows the flow of a problem, it cannot solve

Blocks in problem solving
Barriers to find the best solution in problems What are problem solving blocks? A block is anything which prevents us finding an effective solution
to a problem. We all experience them, but of different types and intensities. The blocks have been grouped in various ways by different authors
according to their cause, eg perceptual emotional intellectual expressive environmental cultural It's important that you are able to recognise when
blocks are hindering your problem solving so that you can take action to overcome them. What causes these blocks? The labels applied to these
blocks give some clues to their origins. Perceptual blocks arise from the way we have learnt to recognise information from the world around us. We
develop habits of...show more content...
For example, if goods do not arrive and we assume that the supplier is late in despatching them when in fact our ordering department has failed to
send out the order, then our search for solutions will be misdirected. In this situation the late despatch of the goods is an effect of the problem and not
a cause. B. Emotional blocks Emotional blocks exist when we perceive a threat to our emotional needs. These needs differ in type and strength from
person to person but include needs for achievement, recognition, order, belonging and self–esteem. The emotional blocks include: Fear of making
mistakes or looking foolish This is the most significant emotional block because it affects most of us and is difficult to overcome. As a result of
traditional schooling, the expected reaction when we make a mistake or suggest radically different ideas is laughter and ridicule. No one likes being
laughed at and as a result we learn to fear making mistakes and to avoid suggesting ideas which are different. This block becomes more severe in the
presence of colleaВgues of a different rank to our own. With .those who are more senior we imagine that we will be thought inexperienced or
immature. With those more junior we want to protect our image as being knowledgeable and experienced. Impatience Being impatient to solve a
problem may be due either to a desire to succeed quickly or to end the discomfort or loss

Questions On The Problem Solving Essay
Problem Solving This week in class we have obtained copious amounts of new knowledge. In this paper, we will review the new topics I have
learned about and how they have applied to my everyday life. The topics I have chosen to review are all about solving problems and how to use
creative thought to solve those problems. Navy Problem Solving I was in the Navy for four years and I worked in the harbor patrol unit. We had a
boat crew of three people, one coxswain which is the person who drives the boat and then two gunners, one stood on the front of the boat and the
other rotated out whenever the other got tired of standing. Basically, for twelve hours a day we drove around on our boat in the harbor, making
sure everything was copasetic. During my time in the Navy, I could give you a million examples of the problems we had to solve daily, but I'm
going to tell you about the most memorable problem solving day I had. It was a Thursday morning, bright and early or maybe not so bright, since we
had to arrive at work at three–thirty AM, it had started out just like any other work day, except maybe we were a little more eager to get the day over
with because we had the next three days off. My section arrived at the armory, put all our gear on, got briefed on the day's events and then loaded up
in the van to head down to the waterfront. Myself and my other two boat members Franklin and Kim, got onto our boat and started driving out to our
post for the day, I was a gunner this

Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving
Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving
Critical thinking and creative problem solving working together can enhance a person's creative skills. However, if there is not a correct balance
between the two, a person may not find the correct resolution. To find the right balance between critical thinking and creative problem solving, one
must understand the similarities and differences between the two. This paper will attempt to show those ideas.
Critical Thinking
According to Shah (2010) and the American Heritage Dictionary, critical thinking is defined as "The mental process of actively and skillfully
conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to...show more content...
Similarities and Differences
Prior to completing this paper, I thought that critical thinking and creative problem solving were very different. However, I find that they are very
much alike. Critical thinking and creative problem solving follow very similar steps to reach a solution.
Conceptualizing and preparing are the beginning phases at which time one realizes there is a problem. Stage two is the applying and analyzing or
incubation stage. After success has been reached at this stage, the process proceeds to the synthesizing or illumination stage. This could also be
considered the Aha stage where an idea comes to light. The last stage is the evaluation or verification to determine the success of the solution.
One difference that should be discussed is that the creative process appears to be more open and looks for more than one resolution to a problem. An
example of this is the story at the end of chapter nine. The question presented was "Show how it is possible to determine the height of a tall building
with the aid of barometer" (Dacey & Lennon, 1998, p. 185). The professor expected an answer using physics logic, but the student was creative
and thought outside the box. By doing this, there were many answers to the question. The critical thinking process is rigid and expects to find only one
resolution.
My Experiences
One experience that comes to mind involving creative problem solving came in my tenure as

Abstract:
Today, problem solving is no longer an exclusive responsibility of those occupying the executive
Suite. As new and complex business challenges become further, everyone in the organization isaccountable of solving workplace problems. Problem
solving and decision making in an organization contain many elements. Effective problem solvers identify the value of structurally controlled
problem–solving methods to promote discipline and increase the chance for achievement. Problems must initially be defined before an investigation of
the causes can begin. This paper mainly describes the importance of problem solving and decision making for an organization and how to resolve them.
It also discusses about steps in problem solving and decision making, nature of difficulties in modern work places, developing and estimating alternative
solutions.

My Reflection Of Problem Solving
In this reflection journal I will be discussing my opinions on problem solving, why problem solving is important, and an example of a time I
succeeded at solving a problem. My opinion of problem solving is identifying a problem exists, developing a plan of action, executing that plan of
action, and then reevaluating the chosen plan of action. Problem solving is important because without it we would never learn or have a way to
measure success. My example of problem solving is when I was recently tasked with investigating an alleged case of adultery between a service
member and his wife. As stated in a previous assignment, I compared problem solving to the plot of Total Recall. You have to clearly state your
problem or have a well–defined outcome. What goal do you wish to achieve? The most important step is to define the problem statement. Once you
have identified the issue at hand, you can start the back–planning process. What steps do you need to take to be successful in your goals? You have to
develop a plan of action, sometimes several plans of actions so you have other options to deviate to when you start working through the problem and
the theories don't translate to reality. Once you have plans in place, you can start acting on those plans to resolve the problem. If you weighed all the
possible outcomes, everything goes according to plan, and you met the intent of your goal then you were successful in problem solving. However, the
process is not complete.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving:
In my opinion practice strategies for helping students learn skills of problem solving and critical thinking remain in a source of conjecture, particularly
with regard to the critical thinking. Cognitive psychologist categorize "knowledge into three key areas: 1.) Declarative knowledge, 2.) procedural
knowledge, and 3.) an ill–defined gray zone between declarative and procedural knowledge that includes the reasoning skills often described as critical
thinking and problems solving. By organizing and analysis thus made are the practice strategies for helping students to learn the reasoning skills of
problem solving and critical thinking remain a source of conjecture, particularly with regard to critical thinking. Critical thinking and problem solving
as intertwined mental capacities, and many investigators have recently merged them into reflective judgement or deliberative assessment. Critical
thinking is the reflective process in which individuals assess a situation or evaluate data by using mental capacities characterized by adjectives such as
compare, analyze, distinguish, reflect and judge.
Critical thinking takes into consideration formulating any problem clearly and precisely, assessment of all information gathered and gradually coming
to a well–reasoned conclusions and testing them against relevant standards. During the exercise of organizing one

Essay on The Psychology of Problem Solving
Where there is a problem there is a solution. No matter how complicated nor how elusive the solution is one is always there. Problems are the
basis of jobs and careers: restaurants for hunger, movies and video games for boredom, news for information etc. However, with basic problems
that have a set solution there are a variety of ways to solve it. Working backwards, although slightly different, is a widely used and very effective
way of solving problems. 1 (Referring to page "Problem I") Most people would look at this problem and would loathe solving it because it would
involve creating a long complicated algebraic problem. Using the method of working backwards even a child who hasn't learned algebra can solve the
same problem and...show more content...
2 Heuristics are rules of thumb that can help us to reach a solution to a problem, typically when facing complex problems or incomplete
information. These rules work well under most circumstances. They can also be considered shortcuts. However, heuristics can cause cognitive
biases. Having a cognitive bias can significantly affect the scientific method or ABCDE's of problem solving. For example, "if the problem is
"When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead,
we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are in, and our ability to get food." The basis of
problem solving is called the ABCDE's. Assess the problem, Brainstorm approaches to the problem, Choose an approach that seems most likely to
work, Do it, try the most likely approach, Evaluate the results. To assess the problem means to dissect the problem and see what it's all about. In
order to sole the problem effectively one must assess what kind of problem it is. Brainstorming approaches is the action of spontaneous creation of
ideas that pertain and could solve the problem. The more ideas produced the more "cushion" you

Solving Math : Problem Solving Skills
Problem solving skills in the area of mathematics: Instruction in problem–solving skills begins at an early age for students. The strategies and
techniques used in developing these skills are introduced in elementary schools, typically in a mathematics lesson. The four steps for problem solving
in mathematics as identified by PГіlya (2004) are: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and reflecting on the problem.
For the first step, understanding the problem, this is where the student attempts to decipher what the problem is asking, and what information has
been provided in the question. Devising a plan is where the student develops strategies to solve the problem. This is where a picture or diagram can
be created and /or mathematical relationships can be used to describe the problem. For carrying out the plan, the student will look to their diagram or
mathematical relationship and take what information they have discovered form the original problem to see if they can solve the problem. The last
step is looking back to the original question to determine if the solution they have found answers the original problem. This is a familiar strategy used
by most teachers in school to impart to their students how to solve a word problem. The most crucial component in the solving of word–problems in
mathematics is deciphering what the question has asked and this is the step where students struggle the most. It may be attributed to not

Critical Thinking: A Complex Problem Solving
In my opinion critical thinking is where someone can think outside of the box whenever there is a complex problem that needs solving. A critical
thinker does not have to put a lot of effort into thinking critically, but they also do not just use the simplest answer that comes to mind to fix the
problem. One with the critical thinking ability should ask many questions about the problem instead of jumping to an easy answer to fix the problem.
Critical thinkers have complex minds that think about everything and have questions. A critical thinker cannot be someone that does not worry about
problems and have a simple mind when it comes to the world. If nobody thought critically then we would probably not know that there are other
planets. Someone

I have worked in the restaurant field for over 6years and it can be very stressful. In this field I have encountered many problems especially since my

believe a lot of my staff has a problem with transition. I have worked around many of my coworkers for so long that I do not believe they see the
difference in me as a manager now and a waitress then. I have bonded so much with my fellow coworkers that I believe I am reason for occurring

They complain about hosting issues, Tip out, and issues with the time for getting bar drinks. As far as I know from the servers their issues with the host
were double seating them and not giving them time to greet the next customer in sufficient time. My solution was to talk to the host and to get them to
better communicate with the servers so this problem would not continue. So far I have not heard anything so I believe that the problem is under control.
Another issue they had was tipping out the bussers. Their concern was that the waitress did more that pre bus the tables so they felt they should not
have to tip the busser. So I had to do a little investigating and I spoke with some of the bussers and they inform me that the servers intentionally bus
their tables so they would not have to tip out. I spoke with servers and inform them all that they know what policy is and is not for them to bus their
own tables. I also mentioned that maybe that is why they are having problems with greeting their tables on time. I explain to the server that had they
come to me sooner they would not have these issues.
Last but not least the server last concern was about getting their bar drinks out in a timely manner. So I had to go speak with my bartenders and see
what their take on the situation was. The bartenders felt like they were understaffed and it was not enough people to run the bar and get the servers
drinks also. So After watching the bartenders for about 5 shifts

6.Improved Communication
According to Hsu, Shih, Chiang, and Liu (2011) projects often fails due to lack of coordination, insufficient knowledge exchange resulting from
ineffective communication among team members. As mentioned earlier, team members will always discuss the new ideas among all the members. In
this way they can express their point of views and find out the positive and negative effects of it. Team members communicate with each other on how
and why to choose the particular solution. In this way, team members can improve the communication by utilizing their knowledge and experience to
find an improved solution that can help attain the objective.
Disadvantages of Team Decision Making and Problem Solving
Though research has found out that team decision making is better than individual decision making, there are always some problems in handling a
team. The team manager or leader should carefully handle the team members to be an efficient team. In other words, when there are many people in a
team with different background, experience and knowledge, there are higher chances of conflict stemming from ego, disagreement, and clash in
thoughts. Some of the downsides of team decision making are pointed out as follows:
1.Competition
In this highly competitive business world, most of the individuals are concerned about building their career and future. They want to show and do their
best for their career

Powering Vs Problem Solving Essay
That Problem–solving is more efficient than powering in reducing corruption in the long run. In this article I Identified the dependent variable as the
level of corruption and the independent variable as problem solving over powering. problem–solving implies that substantial changes are achievable by
sequentially advancing small, novel, partial, or indirect changes, often quietly and under the radar of political and social forces. Instead of pushing
wholesale reform through at "critical junctures," proponents of problem–solving take advantage of small opportunities and use the complexity of
policy areas to advance individually minor but often cumulatively significant changes. Administrative officials convince politicians to agree to an
incremental step, planning and hoping that the "one little step" sets in motion a sequence of steps that add up to significant transformation....show more

Thus, while proponents of powering argue that a strong push is required to bring significant change, problem–solving starts from the premise that
incremental change is achievable within the existing sociopolitical environment. And whereas powering confronts opposition head–on,
problem–solving tends to avoid it. Three attributes are particularly important for distinguishing powering from problem–solving: the reform proponent,
aspirational level, and time frame. Powering reforms are initiated or championed by political leaders who seek to overhaul institutions within the time
frame of the executive's term; problem–solving reforms are spearheaded by state technocrats who make incremental modifications over a longer time

According to Daley, 2015 that it is appropriate for the social workers to understand the approach to problem solving used by the people whom they are

Future Problem Solving Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Future Problem Solving Persuasive Essay Hello, I'm Jenna Brustad! I am part of the Future Problem Solving program international. This is a competition where students, grades 4 through 12, have to find problems based on the future and create soultions for these problems. Our school starts the program in 6th grade as a class and we can contuine on in farther grades. At Grandview Middle School, we had a record breaking 16 students have earned the honor of going to international competition at Michigan State in East Lansing, MI. I am hoping to rasie $700 to cover all of the fees and expanses of going to international competition. $500 is needed to cover room and board and $200 is needed to get a bus from Minnesota to Michigan State. Thank you so much! I would be very appreciative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Problem solving is a universal process that allows us to make decisions on everything from what to eat and what to wear. These steps contain the necessary knowledge that has been constructed through previous life experiences. Without sufficient experience the supports designed to strengthen our choices are weakened ending in the ultimate failure of the problem. There are many different strategies that good problem solvers use to solve a problem. The steps of the problem solving process are systematic and organized. First, take your time and identify the problem very carefully. Do the research, and become informed about your subject. Few good problem solvers solve problems fast. Life choices need to be supported with well thought–out...show more content... It is without doubt that humans will encounter problems that limit access to a preferred want or need at sometime during their lives and this was no different in my own life. Researchers D'Zurilla and Goldfried (1971) define a problem as "any life situation or task that demands a response for adaptive or effective functioning" (415). My life situation in question became deciding between attending school leading to future desired payoffs or working a menial full–time job that would not. The first step in the problem solving process, allowed me to identify the problem. A situation can be perceived or thought of as problematic when an individual encounters situations disturbs them or they find that it keeps them from a goal (Bingham, 1999). The problem surfacing in affording an education and paying for everyday necessities became the central focus at that point in my life and defined the problem that needed an immediate response. The problem solving process can best be defined as the best way to overcome obstacles in situations and the steps used to help overcome them (Peterson et al., 2002). The second step, sort out information that is not needed provided clarity during times in which the process seemed overwhelming. This called for a potential solution, a desired outcome and how to get there. The research that had initially been part of the formulating method had sparked an interest in the military. This idea was supported by the benefits that outweighed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Attributes of Problem Solving Essay There are several attributes that one must have when it comes to problem solving or approaching problems. For instance: Manner, Neutrality, and Relativism to name a few. However I am going to identify the top three I think is most important attributes to have when going approaching any problem of situation. We will start off with Open–mindedness. The concept of Open mindedness is allowing oneself to accept evidence and different arguments into account of forming or revising ones beliefs and values. (http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/open–minded–inquiry/579) A person who is open–minded will be willing to accept other sides to a problem even if it may not be in the best interest of them. For instance; I don't like the idea of ...show more content... It is imperative to be alert and open–minded when listening to all aspects of a situation. Growing up talking to my parents was like talking to a brick wall. They never cared to listen to my evidence about a problem that I caused. They always jumped to conclusions and were bias to any other explanation but their own. Which was unfair at all levels. Lastly I will talk about Judgment. Judgment utilizes information to support a tentative factual claim that goes beyond the available evidence (http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/open–minded–inquiry/579). Sometimes we may not always have all the evidence we need when it comes to problem solving and making decisions, that's when judgment comes into play. We have to gather all the facts and relevant evidence that we have to make sound decisions. Judgment is not about being right or wrong; it's about making the best choice at that moment when need be. Every person must be able to think on their toes and be willing to make calls that no one else want to make. I read this great quote from The Critical Thinking Community that ATTRIBUTES OF PROBLEM Says, "Everyone finds fault with his memory, but none with his judgment." I think this is a great saying to always remember. Being a Non–Commissioned Officer in the Marine Corps, I always find myself having to make judgment calls for my junior Marines. One time because it was a slow day, I made the decision to send Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Define the term problem solving? Problem solving is a mental process through a detail of problem that involves analyzing and solving problems. The goal of problem solving is to overcome the obstacles and find solution that best resolves the issue. Discuss two (2) problem solving strategies that are used by service organization (9 mrks) BRAIN STORMING A problem solving strategy normally done between two or more people, ideas are shared an as more ideas shared, ideas may develop. To begin brain storming a group of individuals gather with ideas and a next individual do the recording of the ideas shared. Each individual must share their ideas, the more ideas share is better for the brain storming. Brain storming must be done in an acceptable environment if employees are afraid their ideas may be rejected. A list must be prepared compiled and distributed to group members for later discussion and a second meeting must held be to recommend the most appropriate solution to be used and resolved the problem. DIAGRAMMING A problem solving strategy that provides visual representation of the problem and facts, there are four main methods: Pro/con sheet– use to solve problem choose specific course of action. Write down the problem then draw a line in the center with one side saying pro and the next saying con, it works well in choosing solution. • 5. Blocks in problem solving Barriers to find the best solution in problems What are problem solving blocks? A block is anything which prevents us finding an effective solution to a problem. We all experience them, but of different types and intensities. The blocks have been grouped in various ways by different authors according to their cause, eg perceptual emotional intellectual expressive environmental cultural It's important that you are able to recognise when blocks are hindering your problem solving so that you can take action to overcome them. What causes these blocks? The labels applied to these blocks give some clues to their origins. Perceptual blocks arise from the way we have learnt to recognise information from the world around us. We develop habits of...show more content... For example, if goods do not arrive and we assume that the supplier is late in despatching them when in fact our ordering department has failed to send out the order, then our search for solutions will be misdirected. In this situation the late despatch of the goods is an effect of the problem and not a cause. B. Emotional blocks Emotional blocks exist when we perceive a threat to our emotional needs. These needs differ in type and strength from person to person but include needs for achievement, recognition, order, belonging and self–esteem. The emotional blocks include: Fear of making mistakes or looking foolish This is the most significant emotional block because it affects most of us and is difficult to overcome. As a result of traditional schooling, the expected reaction when we make a mistake or suggest radically different ideas is laughter and ridicule. No one likes being laughed at and as a result we learn to fear making mistakes and to avoid suggesting ideas which are different. This block becomes more severe in the presence of colleaВgues of a different rank to our own. With .those who are more senior we imagine that we will be thought inexperienced or immature. With those more junior we want to protect our image as being knowledgeable and experienced. Impatience Being impatient to solve a problem may be due either to a desire to succeed quickly or to end the discomfort or loss Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Collaborative Problem Solving is great for kids with behavioral issues as it works on communication, problem solving, helping parents looks at their kids in a different way. Upon interviewing Jenny Williams I was intrigued by the various approaches that she uses in her practice. • 7. Questions On The Problem Solving Essay Problem Solving This week in class we have obtained copious amounts of new knowledge. In this paper, we will review the new topics I have learned about and how they have applied to my everyday life. The topics I have chosen to review are all about solving problems and how to use creative thought to solve those problems. Navy Problem Solving I was in the Navy for four years and I worked in the harbor patrol unit. We had a boat crew of three people, one coxswain which is the person who drives the boat and then two gunners, one stood on the front of the boat and the other rotated out whenever the other got tired of standing. Basically, for twelve hours a day we drove around on our boat in the harbor, making sure everything was copasetic. During my time in the Navy, I could give you a million examples of the problems we had to solve daily, but I'm going to tell you about the most memorable problem solving day I had. It was a Thursday morning, bright and early or maybe not so bright, since we had to arrive at work at three–thirty AM, it had started out just like any other work day, except maybe we were a little more eager to get the day over with because we had the next three days off. My section arrived at the armory, put all our gear on, got briefed on the day's events and then loaded up in the van to head down to the waterfront. Myself and my other two boat members Franklin and Kim, got onto our boat and started driving out to our post for the day, I was a gunner this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving Critical thinking and creative problem solving working together can enhance a person's creative skills. However, if there is not a correct balance between the two, a person may not find the correct resolution. To find the right balance between critical thinking and creative problem solving, one must understand the similarities and differences between the two. This paper will attempt to show those ideas. Critical Thinking According to Shah (2010) and the American Heritage Dictionary, critical thinking is defined as "The mental process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to...show more content... Similarities and Differences Prior to completing this paper, I thought that critical thinking and creative problem solving were very different. However, I find that they are very much alike. Critical thinking and creative problem solving follow very similar steps to reach a solution. Conceptualizing and preparing are the beginning phases at which time one realizes there is a problem. Stage two is the applying and analyzing or incubation stage. After success has been reached at this stage, the process proceeds to the synthesizing or illumination stage. This could also be considered the Aha stage where an idea comes to light. The last stage is the evaluation or verification to determine the success of the solution. One difference that should be discussed is that the creative process appears to be more open and looks for more than one resolution to a problem. An example of this is the story at the end of chapter nine. The question presented was "Show how it is possible to determine the height of a tall building with the aid of barometer" (Dacey & Lennon, 1998, p. 185). The professor expected an answer using physics logic, but the student was creative and thought outside the box. By doing this, there were many answers to the question. The critical thinking process is rigid and expects to find only one resolution. My Experiences One experience that comes to mind involving creative problem solving came in my tenure as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. My Reflection Of Problem Solving In this reflection journal I will be discussing my opinions on problem solving, why problem solving is important, and an example of a time I succeeded at solving a problem. My opinion of problem solving is identifying a problem exists, developing a plan of action, executing that plan of action, and then reevaluating the chosen plan of action. Problem solving is important because without it we would never learn or have a way to measure success. My example of problem solving is when I was recently tasked with investigating an alleged case of adultery between a service member and his wife. As stated in a previous assignment, I compared problem solving to the plot of Total Recall. You have to clearly state your problem or have a well–defined outcome. What goal do you wish to achieve? The most important step is to define the problem statement. Once you have identified the issue at hand, you can start the back–planning process. What steps do you need to take to be successful in your goals? You have to develop a plan of action, sometimes several plans of actions so you have other options to deviate to when you start working through the problem and the theories don't translate to reality. Once you have plans in place, you can start acting on those plans to resolve the problem. If you weighed all the possible outcomes, everything goes according to plan, and you met the intent of your goal then you were successful in problem solving. However, the process is not complete. • 13. Reflection Paper On Critical Thinking Reflection Paper LP5.3 Assignment Duman Yerkhanat December 19, 2017 Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: In my opinion practice strategies for helping students learn skills of problem solving and critical thinking remain in a source of conjecture, particularly with regard to the critical thinking. Cognitive psychologist categorize "knowledge into three key areas: 1.) Declarative knowledge, 2.) procedural knowledge, and 3.) an ill–defined gray zone between declarative and procedural knowledge that includes the reasoning skills often described as critical thinking and problems solving. By organizing and analysis thus made are the practice strategies for helping students to learn the reasoning skills of problem solving and critical thinking remain a source of conjecture, particularly with regard to critical thinking. Critical thinking and problem solving as intertwined mental capacities, and many investigators have recently merged them into reflective judgement or deliberative assessment. Critical thinking is the reflective process in which individuals assess a situation or evaluate data by using mental capacities characterized by adjectives such as compare, analyze, distinguish, reflect and judge. Critical thinking takes into consideration formulating any problem clearly and precisely, assessment of all information gathered and gradually coming to a well–reasoned conclusions and testing them against relevant standards. • 14. Essay on The Psychology of Problem Solving Where there is a problem there is a solution. No matter how complicated nor how elusive the solution is one is always there. Problems are the basis of jobs and careers: restaurants for hunger, movies and video games for boredom, news for information etc. However, with basic problems that have a set solution there are a variety of ways to solve it. Working backwards, although slightly different, is a widely used and very effective way of solving problems. 1 (Referring to page "Problem I") Most people would look at this problem and would loathe solving it because it would involve creating a long complicated algebraic problem. Using the method of working backwards even a child who hasn't learned algebra can solve the same problem and...show more content... 2 Heuristics are rules of thumb that can help us to reach a solution to a problem, typically when facing complex problems or incomplete information. These rules work well under most circumstances. They can also be considered shortcuts. However, heuristics can cause cognitive biases. Having a cognitive bias can significantly affect the scientific method or ABCDE's of problem solving. For example, "if the problem is "When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead, we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are in, and our ability to get food." The basis of problem solving is called the ABCDE's. Assess the problem, Brainstorm approaches to the problem, Choose an approach that seems most likely to work, Do it, try the most likely approach, Evaluate the results. To assess the problem means to dissect the problem and see what it's all about. In order to sole the problem effectively one must assess what kind of problem it is. Brainstorming approaches is the action of spontaneous creation of ideas that pertain and could solve the problem. The more ideas produced the more "cushion" you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Solving Math : Problem Solving Skills Problem solving skills in the area of mathematics: Instruction in problem–solving skills begins at an early age for students. The strategies and techniques used in developing these skills are introduced in elementary schools, typically in a mathematics lesson. The four steps for problem solving in mathematics as identified by PГіlya (2004) are: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and reflecting on the problem. For the first step, understanding the problem, this is where the student attempts to decipher what the problem is asking, and what information has been provided in the question. Devising a plan is where the student develops strategies to solve the problem. This is where a picture or diagram can be created and /or mathematical relationships can be used to describe the problem. For carrying out the plan, the student will look to their diagram or mathematical relationship and take what information they have discovered form the original problem to see if they can solve the problem. The last step is looking back to the original question to determine if the solution they have found answers the original problem. This is a familiar strategy used by most teachers in school to impart to their students how to solve a word problem. The most crucial component in the solving of word–problems in mathematics is deciphering what the question has asked and this is the step where students struggle the most. • 16. Critical Thinking: A Complex Problem Solving In my opinion critical thinking is where someone can think outside of the box whenever there is a complex problem that needs solving. A critical thinker does not have to put a lot of effort into thinking critically, but they also do not just use the simplest answer that comes to mind to fix the problem. One with the critical thinking ability should ask many questions about the problem instead of jumping to an easy answer to fix the problem. Critical thinkers have complex minds that think about everything and have questions. A critical thinker cannot be someone that does not worry about problems and have a simple mind when it comes to the world. If nobody thought critically then we would probably not know that there are other planets. Someone Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Problem Solving Essay Nasaya Link Business3050 Capella University May 19.2013 I have worked in the restaurant field for over 6years and it can be very stressful. In this field I have encountered many problems especially since my promotion. Being that I was a waitress for 4 years and then being promoted as manager. I feel I have encountered more problems now than ever. I believe a lot of my staff has a problem with transition. I have worked around many of my coworkers for so long that I do not believe they see the difference in me as a manager now and a waitress then. I have bonded so much with my fellow coworkers that I believe I am reason for occurring issues we may have. One of the main...show more content... They complain about hosting issues, Tip out, and issues with the time for getting bar drinks. As far as I know from the servers their issues with the host were double seating them and not giving them time to greet the next customer in sufficient time. My solution was to talk to the host and to get them to better communicate with the servers so this problem would not continue. So far I have not heard anything so I believe that the problem is under control. Another issue they had was tipping out the bussers. Their concern was that the waitress did more that pre bus the tables so they felt they should not have to tip the busser. So I had to do a little investigating and I spoke with some of the bussers and they inform me that the servers intentionally bus their tables so they would not have to tip out. I spoke with servers and inform them all that they know what policy is and is not for them to bus their own tables. I also mentioned that maybe that is why they are having problems with greeting their tables on time. I explain to the server that had they come to me sooner they would not have these issues. Last but not least the server last concern was about getting their bar drinks out in a timely manner. So I had to go speak with my bartenders and see what their take on the situation was. The bartenders felt like they were understaffed and it was not enough people to run the bar and get the servers drinks also. So After watching the bartenders for about 5 shifts Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. Powering Vs Problem Solving Essay That Problem–solving is more efficient than powering in reducing corruption in the long run. In this article I Identified the dependent variable as the level of corruption and the independent variable as problem solving over powering. problem–solving implies that substantial changes are achievable by sequentially advancing small, novel, partial, or indirect changes, often quietly and under the radar of political and social forces. Instead of pushing wholesale reform through at "critical junctures," proponents of problem–solving take advantage of small opportunities and use the complexity of policy areas to advance individually minor but often cumulatively significant changes. Administrative officials convince politicians to agree to an incremental step, planning and hoping that the "one little step" sets in motion a sequence of steps that add up to significant transformation....show more content... Thus, while proponents of powering argue that a strong push is required to bring significant change, problem–solving starts from the premise that incremental change is achievable within the existing sociopolitical environment. And whereas powering confronts opposition head–on, problem–solving tends to avoid it. Three attributes are particularly important for distinguishing powering from problem–solving: the reform proponent, aspirational level, and time frame. Powering reforms are initiated or championed by political leaders who seek to overhaul institutions within the time frame of the executive's term; problem–solving reforms are spearheaded by state technocrats who make incremental modifications over a longer time Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to Daley, 2015 that it is appropriate for the social workers to understand the approach to problem solving used by the people whom they are attempting to empower and they have to incorporating Afrocentric perspective into practice because this kind of perspective is built on African history, culture, and worldviews. Thus, the social worker would take advantage of the systems perspective which guide him to identify each system and its influence on the client live. Moreover, the problem–solving model in social work assists people with the problem–solving process; rather than tell clients what to do, social workers teach clients how to apply a problem–solving method so they can develop their own solutions (Simmons School of Social Work, 2014). Therefore, the social worker has benefited from this model in dealing with the client Sharease. Evaluation of the intervention The Clinician–Administered PTSD Scale is the gold standard in PTSD assessment that means CAPS–5 is a 30–item structured interview that can be used to make current (past month) diagnosis of PTSD, make lifetime diagnosis of PTSD, and assess PTSD symptoms over the past week (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 2017).
