Domestic Health Management Products and Programs
Healthways
Assisted in the development of a health and wellness product pipeline focusing on health and
well-being. Include Web Portals, Silver Sneakers, QuitNet, Healthy Lifestyle Coaching, as well as
others. ($30M in annual revenues)
Lead product discovery and design of multi-pronged well-being and health lifestyle coaching
products with multiple delivery channels that include portal design, on-line coaching and call
center activities. In addition to design activities included the development and approval of a
business case for the product
o Outcome Example: At 6 months, the outcome patterns for the two target behaviors (exercise and
stress outperformed controls on exercise (57.4% vs. 46.6% vs. 37.3%) and stress (74.9% vs.
64.7% vs. 53.1%) Also, both treatment groups had significant improvements in five domains of well-
being (n=1400).
Lead discovery activities for a Proactive Health Consumer Product which included analysis of:
markets, product positioning, marketing delivery channels, cost/benefit and internal/external
communications needs.
Forged a relationship with Jim Prochaska, PhD and his company, Pro-Change Health Behavior
Systems to develop innovative behavior change strategies for product formulation.
Integral part of the Sales and Account Teams to analyze customer needs and position products
based on analysis of relevant customer data.
WellPoint
Led all activities associated with the creation and development of a Disease Management (DM)
product pipeline for Wellpoint Health Networks in California at a time when DM was an array of
quality improvement activities for the health plan.
Partnered with the Senior Vice President of Pharmaceuticals at Wellpoint to position these beta
products to pharma companies for funding within the health/pharma industries to provide seed
funding for the products to be developed, tested and delivered.
Continued to develop products and for pharma companies, ultimately developed medication
compliance products for them as a revenue stream within the DM products (in 4 years-$7M).
Because of the success of product outcomes (utilization reduction), the Wellpoint organization
decided to invest $10M to develop DM products and develop product capabilities and grow the
products’ customer base -Outcomes include, but not limited to, a 5:1 ROI.
Shared responsibility for P & L with Wellpoint’s Account Teams and Business Unit Leaders for:
the key strategic objectives within the DM product portfolio. These objectives included the
achievement of revenue, growth and profitability, and strategy and market positioning
consistent with the overall organization’s strategy.
Developed funding mechanisms in collaboration with pharma companies for health management
initiatives resulting in the ability to initiate programs, prove effectiveness and effectuate outcomes
ultimately resulting in the health plan's internal financial commitment of 10M towards disease
management efforts.

3. Developed a national hypertension disease state management program for a major health plan
focused on medication adherence; some activities included: proposal formulation, fund-raising,
population identification, intervention design, and outcome development.
* Created a regional health and wellness program for a major health plan’s 1,000,000 members;
some activities included: benchmarking analysis, business plan development and approval,
cost/benefit analysis, and budget.
Friendly Hills Healthcare Network
* Directed the activities of a community health education department in a large managed care
environment. Some of these activities included: community-wide needs assessment; grant
writing; program and staff development; collaborative ventures within the community; special
events (i.e. Aids Awareness Day attended by 700 staff members). Addressed the needs of
community members with Diabetes by outreach and training in nutrition and self monitoring
blood glucose.
* Directed the activities of health and wellness departments in provider and health plan settings.
Some activities included: managing a staff of five health educators and support personnel, on-
going assessment/evaluation, program development and budget activities. Programs
demonstrated significant cost savings in utilization while maintaining high patient satisfaction
* Directed an internship program for health education graduate students.
