Let’s start with a template
View tab
Slide Master
There are a
set of
‘masters’:

This is what is known as the
‘key master’
Any changes or alterations
made to this slide will reflect
in all other ‘sub-masters’
Let’s change
something on
the key
master and
then view the
sub masters
Let’s change the Theme on the key
master and review how that effects
the layout
Here’s the pulldown menu
Look how the
master changes
all subs
What about changing one
‘sub-master’ to use as a
section divider in the
presentation?
Really quick and easy way

Position your mouse at
the bottom of the last
side layout and right click
Select Insert Slide Master

The additional slide master template is added
Use one ‘sub-master’ and create your divider or transition slide layout

Change or format background
Add images or logos
Changes on the ‘sub-master’ will only effect that one slide so you can have numerous
transition slides in this one “master” section
This also allows for changes to this master group without effecting the original master
Those are some of the most basic edits to a master layout
It’s the quickest way to make edits that effect the whole deck
The issue is; some times a deck may have inserted text boxes on individual slides – which
means some text, when reformatting the Master will not be changed
(part of the new cruelty)

You’ll need to do a quick look through on the slides to
see if there are inserted text boxes that are not
reflected on master slide layouts
Or could be associated with a graph chart
or image inserted onto the slide

Clue #2

Clue #1

Most inserted text boxes will have a unique look that is
not like all the other slides

Here’s a trick to edit all text at once (when you want to change the font type or do
a quick spell check)
Click that small tab - Outline

Simply go to your Home tab

If you click on that you will pull in the text
throughout the deck
Once on Outline click the mouse onto one of
You can choose “Ctrl + A” which selects ALL
Select the text format of your choice
the little slides
and then change the font type
And all text within those slides will be
or

individually or by selecting one, holding the
‘Shift’ key and selecting others

altered
One of the main things that cause problems is keeping the story clear and to follow a
path – just like in a book; group discussion themes together or so they flow naturally
And keep the text, graphs, charts, pies to a minimum
And bullets – nothing is so incredibly boring as seeing a bunch of text, bullets and charts
on a slide…
Content is priority
Design should come last

Here’s a few examples of what I got to ‘pretty up’
…and how they finished
