“GYROSCOPIC STABILIZATION OF UNSTABLE VEHICLES”
ABSTRACT
The project is about a vehicle that proves active gyroscopic stabilization by
gyroscopic precession. Precession is a change in the orientation of the spin
axis of a rotating body, when an external torque is applied. A flywheel rotates
in enclosure acts as a gyroscope. Two gyroscopes mounted to the vehicle
frame, rotate in opposite direction to each other and precess in opposite
directions. Precision is done by gimbal motor follows the right-hand thumb
rule. This whole assembly is called a Control Moment Gyroscopes (CMGs).
Both the gimbal motors are controlled by a control circuit. Control circuit
receives data from the sensors and compares it with the pre-defined
information. Based on the data received from the sensors, one of the position
and/or rpm of the gyroscopes may be adjusted. The aim of this project is to
manufacture a cart that stabilizes itself if its equilibrium is disturbed.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
On completion of our project, it gives us great pleasure and satisfaction. Hence, we would
like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude towards those who made this
possible.
Words cannot express the zeal of ecstasy while depicting our deep sense of, gratitude to
our esteemed, knowledge guide Prof. Ratnesh T. Parmar who inspires us to undertake
this project. His dynamic guidance and continuous interest kept us going inspire of all
difficulties. His technical guidance, knowledge and dynamic approach are the corner
stone.
This dissertation could not be possible without his most valuable suggestion and
guidance. We are also thankful to all the staff members of mechanical engineering
department for their kind support at various stages of work. It is beyond the reach of our
language to express our sincere gratitude to our parents, for their infinite inspiration and
sacrifices for the benefit of our academic career.

Chapter 1
Introduction
Figure I Unfilled Business Model Canvas
Thus business model canvas can be used to visualize such customer expectations and
market problems. This exercise will increase the market strategy and implementation of
technology. This will make them more effective in market.
This exercise brings discussions on viability and cost effectiveness into picture with their
impact. This exercise will enable us to have knowledge on the steps required to ensure
that a solution they develop via project should have a user who can afford it with desired
needs. This exercise helps us to understand the true value of the proposed solution.
Business Model Canvas is used to validate the market significance of products and
services which will be of technology nature in this case. Technology projects are often
solutions or processes that solve a technical problem. However the market
implementation of such solutions also require that the problem solution is designed to
overcome not just the technical barriers but also market and business related barriers of
costs, customer reach and collaborations and those that pertain to the practical nature of
limited initial capacities within the team.

2.1 KEY PARTNERS
In this we can do partnership with different companies according to our product. By
doing this we can get the idea about what is market scenario, optimization in product and
cost can be achieved, from where we can get the raw material of our product.
 Automotive Industry:
An automotive industry is key partner for manufacturing namely the vehicle’s
main unit.
 Mechanical Designers:
Mechanical Designer is key partner for developing the new design and modifies it
according to requirement.
 Computer Programmer:
Computer programmer is key partner for automation and coding in our project.
Figure III Key Partners
2.2 KEY ACTIVITY
In this we are made aware about how will they represent their product to customers. They
can use the following for marketing of the product.
 Production by Order
It can be produced by order as per the CMGs requirement.
 Sensor Assisted
More sensors have quick response as the time can be reduced.
 More Safety
As whole project is about safety and stability, this one is most required key
activity.
 Future Platform
Future platform is very bright for this project, as technology is burgeoning by the
day.
Figure IV Key Activities
2.3 VALUE PROPOSITION
In this one can directly come in contact with customer requirement. In this they will
aware the customer about their product. How it is usable and beneficial over the
conventional product and which kind of services they will provide to customers.
 Safety:
Our project’s main intention is to provide safety in critical condition.
 Stability:
Gyroscopic vehicle is self stable so it provides more stability without any human
effort.

THE USER DEFINED PROJECT BUSINESS MODEL REPORT ON Submitted by PATEL PARTH BHARATKUMAR – 130140119061 SHAH PARTH KAMLESHKUMAR – 130140119060 CHAUDHARI TEJASKUMAR LAXMANBHAI – 130140119105 Under the Guidance of Prof. Ratnesh T Parmar In fulfilment for the award of the degree BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Affiliated by GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE BHARUCH GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY, AHMEDABAD GUJARAT, INDIA SEMESTER VIII ACADEMIC YEAR: 2016-17 “GYROSCOPIC STABILIZATION OF UNSTABLE VEHICLES”
  • 2. ABSTRACT The project is about a vehicle that proves active gyroscopic stabilization by gyroscopic precession. Precession is a change in the orientation of the spin axis of a rotating body, when an external torque is applied. A flywheel rotates in enclosure acts as a gyroscope. Two gyroscopes mounted to the vehicle frame, rotate in opposite direction to each other and precess in opposite directions. Precision is done by gimbal motor follows the right-hand thumb rule. This whole assembly is called a Control Moment Gyroscopes (CMGs). Both the gimbal motors are controlled by a control circuit. Control circuit receives data from the sensors and compares it with the pre-defined information. Based on the data received from the sensors, one of the position and/or rpm of the gyroscopes may be adjusted. The aim of this project is to manufacture a cart that stabilizes itself if its equilibrium is disturbed.
  • 3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT On completion of our project, it gives us great pleasure and satisfaction. Hence, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude towards those who made this possible. Words cannot express the zeal of ecstasy while depicting our deep sense of, gratitude to our esteemed, knowledge guide Prof. Ratnesh T. Parmar who inspires us to undertake this project. His dynamic guidance and continuous interest kept us going inspire of all difficulties. His technical guidance, knowledge and dynamic approach are the corner stone. This dissertation could not be possible without his most valuable suggestion and guidance. We are also thankful to all the staff members of mechanical engineering department for their kind support at various stages of work. It is beyond the reach of our language to express our sincere gratitude to our parents, for their infinite inspiration and sacrifices for the benefit of our academic career. - Team

  • 8. Chapter 1 Introduction Figure I Unfilled Business Model Canvas Thus business model canvas can be used to visualize such customer expectations and market problems. This exercise will increase the market strategy and implementation of technology. This will make them more effective in market. This exercise brings discussions on viability and cost effectiveness into picture with their impact. This exercise will enable us to have knowledge on the steps required to ensure that a solution they develop via project should have a user who can afford it with desired needs. This exercise helps us to understand the true value of the proposed solution.
  • 9. Business Model Canvas is used to validate the market significance of products and services which will be of technology nature in this case. Technology projects are often solutions or processes that solve a technical problem. However the market implementation of such solutions also require that the problem solution is designed to overcome not just the technical barriers but also market and business related barriers of costs, customer reach and collaborations and those that pertain to the practical nature of limited initial capacities within the team.
