This presentation provides an introduction about the functions and classification of antennas along with the radiation characteristics of a dipole antenna
2. HISTORY
The first antennas were built in 1888 by German
physicist Heinrich Hertz in his pioneering experiments to
prove the existence of electromagnetic waves predicted
by the theory of James Clerk Maxwell.
6. CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH RADIATION
OCCURS
Radiation doesn’t occur when charges move
uniformly over a conductor.
When electric charges oscillates over a
conductor/changes direction radiation occurs
Time varying current and accelerating charges
causes radiation
22. ANTENNA FIELD ZONES
•The dividing line “Rule
of Thumb” is
R = 2L2/.
•The near field or
Fresnel zone is r < R
The far field or
Fraunhofer zone is
r > R
