6. First year plan
The first Indian prime minister , Jawaharlal Nehru presented the first five
year plan to the parliament of India December 8 , 1951.
ALLOCATION
The total planned budget of Rs.2,069 crore was allocated to seven broad areas.
- Irrigation and energy(27.4%)
- Agriculture and community development(17.4%)
- Transport and communication(24%)
- Social service(16.64%)
- Industry(8.4%)
- Land rehabilitation(4.1%)
- Other sector and services(2.5%)
7. SECOND YEAR PLAN
~ The second five year plan was focused on industry , especially heavy industry.
~ The plan followed the mahalanobis model, an economic development model
developed by the Indian statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in 1953.
ALLOCATION
The total amount allocated under the second five year plan in India was Rs.4,600
crore

8. THIRD YEAR PLAN
~ THE THIRD PLAN STRESSED ON AGRICULTURE AND IMPROVEMENT IN THE PRODUCTION OF WHEAT
, BUT THE BRIEF SINO-INDIAN WAR OF 1962 EXPOSED WEAKNESS IN THE ECONOMY AND SHIFTED
THE FOCUS TOWARDS THE DEFENCE INDUSTRIES
~ MANY CEMENT FERTILISERS PANT WERE ALSO BUILT
~ PUNJAB BEGIN PRODUCING AN ABUNDANCE OF WHEAT
~ MANY PRIMARY SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN STARTED IN RURAL AREAS
~ THE TARGET GROWTH RATE WAS (5.6%)
~ THE ACHIEVED GROWTH RATE WAS (2.4%)
9. FOURTH YEAR PLAN
~ IN THIS TIME INDRA GANDHI WAS THE PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA. IN THIS PERIOD THE GOVERNMENT OF
INDIA NATIONALISED 19 MAJOR INDIAN BANKS.
~ AIMS – TO STRENGTHEN THE PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE NETWORK IN THE RURAL AREA FOR
UNDERTAKING PREVENTIVE, CURATIVE AND FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES.
~ TO TAKE OVER THE MAINTENANCE PHASE.
OBJECTIVES
- TO REFORM ITS EXPENDITURE AGENDA.
- TO FACILITATES GROWTH IN EXPORT.
- TO ACHIEVE GROWTH RATE OF (5.6%).
10. FIFTH YEAR PLAN
~ The fifth plan was prepared and launched by D.D.DHAR.
~ Promotion of high rate of growth, better distribution of income and significant growth in domestic
areas.
~ The plan was terminated in 1978 (instead of 1979) when Janta Party Govt. rose to power.
AIMS
~ To achieve the growth rate of (4.4%)
~ Improve the living standard of people
11. SIXTH YEAR PLAN
~ In this year plan RAJIV GANDHI was elected as the Prime
Minister of India.
~ The young Prime Minister acts on Industrial development.
~ Family planning concept
~ Improve the tourism industries
~ Target growth rate was (5.2%)
12. SEVENTH YEAR PLAN
~ This year plan laid stress on improving the productivity level of industries by up
gradation of technologies. In this plan Congress Party came into the power.
OBJECTIVE
- To upgrade the industrial sector
- To generate more employment
- Increase facility of education
- To achieve the growth rate of (5%)
AIMS
- To improve primary health care and medical and medical service.
- This plan emphasis on community participation,
- Inter-Sectoral, co-ordination and cooperation.
13. EIGHTH FIVE YEAR PLAN
~ Energy was given priority with (26.6%) of the outlay.
~ The target growth rate was(5.6%) and actual growth rate was (6,8%).
14. NINTH FIVE YEAR PLAN
~ In this period ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE was the prime minister of India .
~ This plan works on social growth and reduction in poverty.
~ It has a total public sector outlay of (859200) crore .
~ The target growth rate was (7.1%) and the achieved growth rate was
(6.8%).
15. TENTH YEAR PLAN
~ Out of total plan layout ( $11516 ) crore.
~ (57.9%) was for central government and (42.1%) was for state and
union territories.
~ The target growth rate was (8.1%) with achieved growth rate was
(7.7%).
~ It was target to attain (8%) GDP growth per year.
~ Reduction of poverty rate by (5%).
~ Reduction in gender gap in literacy and wages rate by at least (50%)
by 2007.
16. ELEVENTH YEAR PLAN
~ During this period Dr. MANMOHAN SINGH was the prime minister
of India.
~ The eleventh five year targeted the growth rate of (7.9%) and the
achieved growth rate was (8.1%).

18. TWELFTH FIVE YEAR PLAN
~ The twelfth five year plan was the final five year plan in India, after this no
more plans were formed.
~ The original target growth rate of the twelfth five year plan was (9%) but later
it was changed by NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (NDC) to (8%).
