You told us what was important to you and we listened!
"In a random sample of 200 KeyBank employees 80% told us that they felt that
sustainability was important to Key's success," says Key's Sustainability Officer, Jessica
White. "We know that employees want to be more involved in sustainability at Key.
That's why Key has developed a program called 'project impACT' which is a facility-
based, team approach to encourage our employees to exercise their values and do their part."
We want to leave future generations with a healthy environment and stable economic and social conditions, adds
White. In the spirit of corporate responsibility, environmental stewardship and Key's long tradition of helping our clients
and communities thrive, project impACT is all about employees taking ACTion "for me, my community and Key!"
project impACT was initially piloted with four teams Key Tower, Higbee Building, Lyndhurst KeyBank Branch, and the
Key Equipment Finance (KEF) office in Superior, Colorado.
Each team chose and implemented initiatives that employees are passionate
about in an effort to be more sustainable, both as a company and personally.
Some initiatives were environmentally based, while others focused on
personal wellness.
Sustainability efforts are nothing new to our KEF team. They have been
wanting to become more involved and project impACT is their perfect
opportunity.
Their initiatives were:
Bottled water reduction: after signing a personal pledge, KEF team
members got a project impACT canteen to replace using disposable
bottles. They also placed bottle filling stations in their buildings for
ease of use.
Education on recycling and promotion of existing programs: KEF's
workplace already had a few recycling programs in place (e.g., candy and energy bar wrappers, plastic bags, cell
phones, etc.) For example, working with a company called Terracycle, the KEF team recycled energy bar wrappers
and donated proceeds from their efforts to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
Earth Week: KEF team members held a "KEF blackout lunch hour" and brought in more than 1,000 lbs of paper
for shredding and recycling.
The team from Key's Lyndhurst branch, was really excited to get involved with project impACT. Not only did they opt
to start a branch recycling program, but they chose a healthy option for their other initiative: Fun Fit Fridays. This
initiative highlighted healthy recipes in a branch potluck every other week. They shared recipes and took new ideas
home to their families.
"project impACT creates opportunities for employees to lead and support sustainability improvements in our workplaces,
especially in the areas of increasing recycling and reduction of waste,"says Kane Kretzinger, Director of Corporate Real
Estate. "The project impACT teams at KeyTower and Higbee are instrumental in helping us improve in these areas."

Team in Superior, Colo. (L to R: Paige Yungstrom, Pietro
Simonetti, and Courtney Cross) with their newly installed
water bottle filling station to promote reusable bottles vs.
single use plastic bottles.
