BOXING FITNESS INSTRUCTION – OUTLINE
Thanks to the enthusiastic response from those members who participated in the
introductory sessions this past fall, Quest Fitness is renovating an area for the
installation of heavy bags and other equipment to provide you with another way
to enjoy your workouts. Beginning in February, sessions will begin for Boxing
Fitness Instruction. Give yourself a “change” this New Year from your last-year’s
routine. Experience boxing training that will excite your senses and give your
whole body a greater overall workout:
• Learn how to use heavy bags and “speed bags” for increased muscle tone
and power
• Increase your cardio-vascular capability through “rounds” and circuit
training drills
• Combine arms, abs, and legs all in one workout; gain flexibility too
• Learn how to apply boxing skills in self-defense
Through the information sheets at the desk, we have found that members are
interested in the small-group class format for a number of reasons:
• Wedding Party
• Reunion this spring
• Vacation – need to look good on the beach
• Corporate Team Building
• Company Weight Loss incentive
• Pre-season conditioning
• General fitness improvement
The Boxing Fitness instruction is available as “package” for $159.00; 6-week,
twice a week, one hour sessions (12 total). Members can sign up as a group (no
more than six [6] people in one session) or be placed as follows:
“First Round” – for those who are new to boxing as a workout; Instruction in
basic punches, footwork, and then moves forward to combine exercises and
strength training into the sessions as members acquire skills.
“Second Round” – for those who have previous boxing skills and technique;
ready to “hit the bag” and work on combinations, rounds, etc.
Or, you can receive personal “one-to-one” instruction to incorporate boxing skills
as part of your own desired fitness plan. Check with the Quest Sales personnel
for packages and rates that apply to Personal Training.
Registration is available now for Boxing Fitness instruction. Session times will be
filled on first-come, first serve basis.
Beginning February 9th
Boxing Fitness instruction sessions will be offered:
Monday through Thursday Evenings
6:15 – 7:15; 7:30 – 8:30, 9:00 – 10:00pm
Saturday Mornings
9:15 – 10:15; 10:45 – 11:45am
Choose the best times (twice a week) for your group or yourself to get into this
new Boxing Fitness program. All participants will need the following items for the
instruction:
• Bag Gloves – Quest has a limited amount of never worn and slightly used
sets of gloves for sale; available in Small (red), Medium (red), and Large
(black) sizes. Please check with reception desk as to their availability
($25 new, $20 used). You may purchase your own gloves of any color or
design, but all members need their own gloves for the instruction.
• Hand Wraps – For those who are new to boxing workouts, there are
modern “slip on” hand wraps (Everlast) now available at any sporting
goods retailer. These simply pull on over the knuckle part of each hand
(and your gloves slide over them.
For those who prefer the “retro” style, there is a limited supply of 120”
(Small) and 180” (Large) rolls of hand wraps ($5) available at Quest. If you
know how to wrap your hands, that’s great. If you don’t know how, or do
not desire to attain the proficiency and technique of learning how to wrap
your hands, the slip-on design described above might be an easier thing.
• What to Wear? Anything you would normally wear to workout. Try to
avoid “heavyweight” sweats; vinyl sweat suits are also not recommended
as they tend to accelerate body water loss and can lead to rapid fatigue
and overheating during workouts. Footwear should be whatever you’re
comfortable in – any athletic shoes are fine. Fashion not required.
• What to Bring? Along with your own bag gloves and hand wraps, always
have a bottle of water and towel nearby. Personal music listening devices
are not needed (no cell phones either) as participants will need to listen to
instructions during bag work and drills. Try to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to
the start of each of your sessions – meet in the boxing area.
• Any Questions? Contact Jay Salzman at QuestBoxing@aol.com – this is
a special email address for those who would like more information about
the Boxing Fitness instruction, or have questions about how to schedule
their group or personal sessions.
