 We’re social beings and thus communication is an important part in our
lives.
 We are part of a community and interact with those surrounding us. Since
we were little kids, we’re used to being part of a group. Your working place
is also a community that you join when accepting an offer. What is so
different when working in an international corporation?
Language
Internal communication of the firm
 The role of the international communication professional has changed with
the global expansion of businesses. It has also grown with the enormous
growth of expressive diversity of new media and the rise of participatory
cultures.
 As a result, the areas of corporate communication, advertising and
promotion, public relations and other forms of persuasive communication
are merging.
The objectives of internal
communication in the firm:
 Help employees.
 Understand the organization’s vision, mission, values and culture.
 To open lines of communication between management and employees.
 To forge a sense of community.
The question to address
 How members of an organization (mainly internal
communicators) code messages and how other employees
perceive, give meaning and respond to those same messages
?
The communication process
Why is international communication is
vital for the firm
 International communication is vital due to the need to follow parallel
strategies, transmitting the same messages and building a homogeneous
brand in many different markets.
 The process becomes more complex with the participation from different
players (external communication agencies, local area managers, etc.)
The importance of efficiency using
virtual tools
 Most of the people you will be in contact with are located hundreds of
miles away. Virtual teams are a common thing within any international
firm.
 Basically, you build the relationship by e-mail or by phone. It’s different
from the face-to-face communication, but you can still do your job and be
effective.
The key aspects for a good
international communication
 Set a Strategic Communication Plan
Whatever your strategy is, make sure it is documented and your leadership
team is aligned in its execution.
 Unified Corporate Mission and Vision
having clear mission and vision statements will at least ensure that everyone
is on the same page about the purpose and direction of your company.
 Communication Technology
A multinational with many different departments and thousands of
employees all over the world might benefit from a feature-rich intranet and
community-engagement platforms and internal social networks.
