. "Following a conversation" means examining how different writers define and respond to similar issues, and listening/reading closely for moments where different writers connect, where they overlap, and where they conflict. It also means that you examine

In order to make sure that your exploration considers differing points of view, we are going to ground your exploration in this unit by focusing on a social movement or an influential organization and an issue that is central to their cause. For example, you could look into conversations related to

like #MeToo, #BlackLivesMatter, March for Our Lives, or #MMIW. You could look at conversations in the news that involve
influential organizations
, like Planned Parenthood, the Red Cross, the ACLU, and RAICES. The project will ask you to read several sources about a topic that that group cares very much about, think about how different writers take different approaches to the topic, and then look at how the major organization or social movement you chose is responding to that same topic.
The project will ask you to do four things:
Summarize
the specifics of the conversations that you are following, including the main topics/ideas being discussed, the modes being used throughout the conversation, and the context in which the conversation is taking place.
Discuss
the ethos/credibility and varying levels of expertise of groups/people taking part in the conversation,
Analyze
the ways in which your chosen social movement or organization uses writing and rhetoric to facilitate change
Reflect
on what you learned, including how this activity informs your understanding of research in a digital society.
Importantly, this assignment is not a paper: you will complete this project as a series of 4 posts, culminating in a final project reflection. All

Overview
Having the Critique under your belt as well as quite a few journal entries must feel pretty good! Use this confidence as we now move into our first long paper of the semester, Synthesis #1. At first, see this paper as an extended argument you make about a particular topic using secondary sources to persuade your reader.
Topic Selection
I really want you to explore a topic that interests you and motivates you to think critically and write persuasively. Do not simply summarize a reading and claim that it is “right” or “wrong.” Instead, you must see connections between readings and extend the thinking here in a way you see fit. Look around the world around you, think of topics you have thoughts about in this and other courses, and also speculate about what would happen if you took the thinking of certain authors further in your desired direction. I only require that your topic must deal in some way with media and pop culture—the theme of our readings in the course thus far. We will spend time in class brainstorming topics as well as looking at sample essays.
What is a Synthesis?
If anything confuses a student when writing an essay like this, it is the actual term “synthesis”. Don’t worry too much about this term; instead, see what you are doing as arguing a position with a variety of sources to help you. What you want to do in this essay is show that you can both sustain a logical and persuasive argument, and control sources and their use to your persuasive end. Try to have your secondary sources have a “dialogue” with each other in terms of what they do and do not agree with in relation to your argued positions. We will practice this in class. As a matter of fact, we have been practicing this since the first week of class in discussion (esp. the lively discussion we have had in class).
Additional Help with Synthesis
It is very important in this essay to “Establish connections among readings”. The more you can have a “dialogue” between your sources, the more credible you will be as an author and the more importance you may place on your assessment of the ideas being discussed.
This is an essay that may really be helped out by using some of the templates from They Say/I Say. I am not going to assign that you use them in a certain order, but I do think that the templates are excellent ways to start “saying something” if you are stuck. Review pages 55-75 in They Say/I Say for some directions.

Reading for pleasure is often done passively, without the need to organize the
writer's ideas or your responses to those ideas. For college writing, though, it is
your responses to writing that is important.
Passive Reading: reading done without an active, critical mindset.
Active Reading: using techniques to more fully engage with a text.
What a writer means can be interpreted different ways by different people, so
meaning is important because it clarifies the writer’s Main Idea from the General
Topic.
Keep Your Focus on the Meaning
When it comes time to write your essays, it’s your own meaning that’s important.
• Main Idea: the key concept of the topic (meaning, sometimes opinion).
• General Topic: the general subject of a passage (objective, just the facts).
The best way to read actively is to annotate. Annotating is simply writing notes
in the margins of a text as you read.
The Benefits of Annotating:
• Annotations provide a variety of points to keep in mind while looking
for ideas to include in your own essay.
• Annotating will help you locate and interpret the meaning of any text.

In addition, I also did another searching on other resources and found one more article that was “The Role of the Media in Body Image Concerns Among Women: A Meta-Analysis of Experimental and Correlational Studies” of Shelly Grabe. Overall, there was nothing resource that I thought it was the least helpful this week. However, I thought the Gale Literary Sources of Cypress Library was most helpful for me because it provided me two articles. During finding sources, I used keywords, such as “women”, “media effects”, and “advertising”, and I refined my keywords as I went along. Moreover, I also found more keywords, such as “meta-analysis” and “body image”. The database provided the most material for my topic was the result of the experiment in the article “The Role of the Media in Body Image Concerns Among Women: A Meta-Analysis of Experimental and Correlational Studies”. Overview
Having the Critique under your belt as well as quite a few journal entries must feel pretty good! Use this confidence as we now move into our first long paper of the semester, Synthesis #1. At first, see this paper as an extended argument you make about a particular topic using secondary sources to persuade your reader.
Topic Selection
I really want you to explore a topic that interests you and motivates you to think critically and write persuasively. Do not simply summarize a reading and claim that it is “right” or “wrong.” Instead, you must see connections between readings and extend the thinking here in a way you see fit. Look around the world around you, think of topics you have thoughts about in this and other courses, and also speculate about what would happen if you took the thinking of certain authors further in your desired direction. I only require that your topic must deal in some way with media and pop culture—the theme of our readings in the course thus far. We will spend time in class brainstorming topics as well as looking at sample essays.
What is a Synthesis?
If anything confuses a student when writing an essay like this, it is the actual term “synthesis”. Don’t worry too much about this term; instead, see what you are doing as arguing a position with a variety of sources to help you. What you want to do in this essay is show that you can both sustain a logical and persuasive argument, and control sources and their use to your persuasive end. Try to have your secondary sources have a “dialogue” with each other in terms of what they do and do not agree with in relation to your argued positions. We will practice this in class. As a matter of fact, we have been practicing this since the first week of class in discussion (esp. the lively discussion we have had in class).
Additional Help with Synthesis
It is very important in this essay to “Establish connections among readings”. The more you can have a “dialogue” between your sources, the more credible you will be as an author and the more importance you may place on your assessment of the ideas being discussed.
This is an essay that may really be helped out by using some of the templates from They Say/I Say. I am not going to assign that you use them in a certain order, but I do think that the templates are excellent ways to start “saying something” if you are stuck. Review pages 55-75 in They Say/I Say for some directions.

Don’t Read Homework Like You Read a Magazine.
Reading for pleasure is often done passively, without the need to organize the
writer's ideas or your responses to those ideas. For college writing, though, it is
your responses to writing that is important.
Passive Reading: reading done without an active, critical mindset.
Active Reading: using techniques to more fully engage with a text.
What a writer means can be interpreted different ways by different people, so
meaning is important because it clarifies the writer’s Main Idea from the General
Topic.
Keep Your Focus on the Meaning
When it comes time to write your essays, it’s your own meaning that’s important.
• Main Idea: the key concept of the topic (meaning, sometimes opinion).
• General Topic: the general subject of a passage (objective, just the facts).
The best way to read actively is to annotate. Annotating is simply writing notes
in the margins of a text as you read.
The Benefits of Annotating:
• Annotations provide a variety of points to keep in mind while looking
for ideas to include in your own essay.
• Annotating will help you locate and interpret the meaning of any text.
• Annotating will save you time since you won’t have to read something
over and over again to understand the author’s meaning.

For this project, you will write a four-to-five-page essay that analyzes and interprets four works and finds a unifying theme among them. You may use writings from the textbook itself (whether they were among the selected course readings or not) or you may explore other outside texts provided they are published sources that were written or created as a part of the social movements studied in the course. You will need at least five total sources of outside research for your essay documented in your Works Cited page.
You may do this assignment one of two ways:
1. You may choose a social movement and describe how each of the four works you select contributes to the movement using the “politics” Zoe Trodd explains in her introduction to the text. How does each depict aspects of the movement and what strategies, tactics, or techniques does it use to influence the movement for change? At the beginning of this week, I felt finding references for my research paper was a little bit difficult. My topic is “women in mass media” and my research question is “Why women are affected by the media the most?” I tried to search articles that were related to my research question through Cypress Library, Gale Literary Sources, and I found two articles from this source. They are “Selling the self: women and the feminine seduction of advertising” of Kristine Blair and “Gender Issues in Advertising Language” of Nancy Artz. In addition, I also did another searching on other resources and found one more article that was “The Role of the Media in Body Image Concerns Among Women: A Meta-Analysis of Experimental and Correlational Studies” of Shelly Grabe. Overall, there was nothing resource that I thought it was the least helpful this week. However, I thought the Gale Literary Sources of Cypress Library was most helpful for me because it provided me two articles. During finding sources, I used keywords, such as “women”, “media effects”, and “advertising”, and I refined my keywords as I went along. Moreover, I also found more keywords, such as “meta-analysis” and “body image”. The database provided the most material for my topic was the result of the experiment in the article “The Role of the Media in Body Image Concerns Among Women: A Meta-Analysis of Experimental and Correlational Studies”. I did not find sources from credible Internet sources. According to these article, I was able to find specific statistics to add to my essay. Main Idea: Every paragraph should have one main idea. If you find that your paragraphs have more than one main idea, separate your paragraphs so that each has only one main point. The idea behind a paragraph is to introduce an idea and expand upon it. If you veer off into a new topic, begin a new paragraph.
Evidence or Examples: Your main idea needs support, either in the form of evidence that buttresses your argument or examples that explain your idea. If you don’t have any evidence or examples to support your main idea, your idea may not be strong enough to warrant a complete paragraph. In this case, reevaluate your idea and see whether you need even to keep it in the paper.
Analysis: Analysis is the heart of academic writing. While your readers want to see evidence or examples of your idea, the real “meat” of your idea is your interpretation of your evidence or examples: how you break them apart, compare them to other ideas, use them to build a persuasive case, demonstrate their strengths or weaknesses, and so on. Analysis is especially important if your evidence (E) is a quote from another author. Always follow a quote with your analysis of the quote, demonstrating how that quote helps you to make your case. If you let a quote stand on its own, then the author of that quote will have a stronger voice in your paragraph (and maybe even your paper) than you will.
Link: Links help your reader to see how your paragraphs fit together. When you end a paragraph, try to link it to something else in your paper, such as your thesis or argument, the previous paragraph or main idea, or the following paragraph. Creating links will help your reader understand the logic and organization of your paper, as well as the logic and organization of your argument or main points.

Ford Motor Company Responds to Ethical Challenges
Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford, an inventor and entrepreneur, on June 16, 1903, in Detroit, Michigan. The Model-T became one of the most popular vehicles because it was inexpensive. During this era, he opened a factory in Canada, making the
company a global transportation leader. His moving assembly line for manufacturing was to revolutionize the auto industry.
In July 1919, the Ford family bought out all nonfamily shareholders, making them the sole owners of the company. Ever since, all Ford Company Chairmen/CEOs have been direct descendants of Henry Ford. It is the fifth largest family-owned business in the world. Today, Ford remains one the world’s top automobile companies. In 1927, Chevrolet surpassed Ford in the number of cars sold, and a rivalry continued for the next 100 years. The Ford Focus was the world’s bestselling automobile in 2013.
The Ford Company mission also known as the vision statement is “People working together as a lean, global enterprise to make people’s lives better through automotive and
mobility leadership.” Today, Bill Ford is Executive Chairman; under his leadership, the company was named the Best Global Green Brand among all companies in the world in 2014, and one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the eighth year in a row in March 2017.
In 2017, Mark Fields was forced out as CEO, after a 40 percent drop in share price over the past three years. Chairman Bill Ford immediately appointed Jim Hackett to replace him. Prior to this appointment, Hackett served as Chairman of the Ford Smart Mobility LLC subsidiary. Hackett’s growth strategy is to take the carmaker from conventional production to new kinds of vehicles and new advanced manufacturing processes that include ridesharing and
autonomous vehicles. His strategy is to move from a traditional car company to a more flexible and technologically advanced mobility company.
Hackett’s management strategy is to cut costs, focus on trucks and SUVs, and move some manufacturing, including the Ford Focus, to China. Ford will cut internal combustion
engine spending by one-third while moving these resources toward electrical technology with a goal to add 13 new electric cars by 2020. Ford has pledged to redesign its factories and add 3D printing, robotics, and virtual reality tools to speed up design for development and production of all product offerings.
Ford will explore emerging markets as they seek new ways to address urban congestion and park and ride desires of the driving public. Recently, the company acquired Chariot, a crowdsourced shuttle service, and opened the company’s Smart Mobility Innovation Office in London, which will target near-term development of smart mobility technologies while focusing on the specific requirements of European cities. Hackett plans to push Internet connectivity and promises that 100 percent of new U.S. vehicles will have the capabi.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the

population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
