INTRODUCTION
Every child is special and requires special attention from the school for being
polished as a successful person. Students are going to colleges and universities
without proper planning. They think of selecting a career after finishing their
education. Therefore, the best place from where young teens can solicit reliable
career advice is their secondary schools. It is at secondary school that a student
confronts his/her very first career choice needs to decide between Science and
Commerce subjects. A number of students pick specific subjects simply because
their friends are opting for them while some decide according to their parents’
wishes. Only a few select subjects are based on their interests and that also
without knowing if their preferred subjects would lead them to their desired
careers or not. They just need a perfect career counseling and support to fulfill
their dreams .

CARRER COUNSELING IN SECONDARY SCHOOL
"CC BY-SA-NC"
What is career counseling?
School career counseling is based: in the aim of ensuring the
education of pupils through the educational process, (especially
as regards the adaptation of teaching and learning process and
the transition between different stages and levels).
It must also offer Mainly:
 The whole educational community.
 Advice and support to the whole school community
including parents, students, and teacher and so on.

Are guidance and counseling synonyms?
Guidance and counseling have difference and similarities so they are not
synonyms at all:
 Counseling is based in process which provides assistance, support by
suggesting opinion and knowledge to educational institutions looking
for the result and personal develop.
 Guidance focuses on orient individuals in any stage of their life
process such as reconstruction of self and personality, personal
integration of related groups, organization staff attitude learning
and problem solving and project of life.

How Career Counselor works at the secondary level?
 Seeking the right track.
 Awareness towards various career options.
 Need to carve young students for future jobs.
 Getting clarity in their decisions.
Get rid of the fear of unemployment.

How Career Counselor works at the secondary level?
"CC BY-SA-NC"
 Counseling is basically an assistance provided to the students for
achieving their goals by knowing about their strengths and
weaknesses. It will help students to polish themselves in a manner
that they have a personality that others may appreciate.
 According to Carl Rogers, counseling is a series which assists
students in changing their attitudes and behavior by having a
direct communication with them.
Seeking the right track :
"CC BY-SA-NC"
It’s a daunting task for the senior secondary school students to select one
subject among the numbers of options. Students at this stage are seen to
be constantly bombarded by giving advice from each and every person
they meet wherever they go. It may push them in confusion about taking
the right career decision.
 Career counselors support them in taking the right decision at this stage
of dilemma and help them in choosing what is right for them as per their
skills and interests .
Awareness towards various career options :
"CC BY-SA-NC"
The battle for choosing various subjects starts at an initial stage after class-
X when students have to choose between science, arts and commerce.
Usually, students choose the subjects vying their peers or by listening to
what their parents tell them to choose. Only a few students choose their
preferred subjects.
Example :- If a student of a 10th-grade student says, “he wants to be an
electrical engineer and so he decided to go with non-medical subjects such as
Physics and Mathematics. But some students may be not aware of the best
subject combination which is required for electronics.” After that, student
went to the career counselor and asks for the perfect fit and future scope
for fulfilling his dream of being an electrical engineer. A career counselor
helped him in getting the knowledge of all the career choices and he could
easily decide what to choose after doing self-analysis.
Need to carve young students for future jobs :
"CC BY-SA-NC"
Career counseling at the secondary stage is most important for the young
students. This is the accurate time to help them in shaping them up for
their bright future.
 Students need to be introduced to various subjects, affiliated
universities, perfect subject combinations according to various fields, and
skills on demand for the future job.
They need to know the fields which are going to saturate and which are
having good scope for their upcoming career. All these things help
students to expand their knowledge bank at this initial stage.
Getting clarity in their decisions :
"CC BY-SA-NC"
As a parent or a teacher, we can't expect clarity and decisiveness from
teenagers, as they are just growing up and require much more for their
developments. They have to face various new challenges at this stage. It
needs to groom their personality and ideology towards a successful career.
It is compulsory for them to get a reliable career advice.
Career counselors will help them to identify students with their skills and
interests and encourage them to take decisions as per their own choice.
Senior secondary students need time and exposure towards their perfect
career choice and for getting information about relevant professional
choices for their perfect future job.
Get rid of the fear of unemployment :
"CC BY-SA-NC"
Example - Mr. Das insists his son for being a doctor as he thinks that it has a
wide scope of employment. On the other hand, his son wants to go with the
business management. It brings dilemma for both of them. Parents need to
look beyond some traditional professions. Career counselors will help to
rectify them and provide a perfect guide to the leading and also upcoming
job market scope. They will help them in analyzing new and emerging
professions with the right education and competencies so that our young
generation can achieve its dreams through a right career path.
What are provided in school career counseling?
 Providing counseling in learning.
 Opportunities for in-career development.
 Practice.
 Participation in research guidance needs.
 New projects and initiatives.
 Guidance to students for every level of education.
 Counseling.
 Prevention.
Consultation.

Conclusion
Counseling in its spirit and essence is generative it aims at
assisting the individual to develop such that he becomes
psychologically mature and is capable at realizing his
potentialities optimally.
The Secondary school counseling needs a meaningful,
realistic, practical frame of reference constituent with
the short term nature at school counseling.
