1. ESP PERFORMANCE ASSIGNMRNT
OKPOKORO 13
Drilling operations on Okpokoro 13 commenced on 19th
March 1972 and ended on 2nd
July 1972.
Completion operations ended on the 10th
July 1972. It is an oil development well, on Okpokoro
R5000M reservoir to develop 5.9 MMstb and 5.8 Bscf of oil and associated gas reserves
respectively at an expected potential of 2500 bopd. The 6” drain-hole was drilled from 10,734ftah to
10778ftah. Oil formation factor is estimated to be 1.3 rb/stb and the annulus and tubing is displaced
to 9.0ppg inhibitedbrine. Reservoirtemperature isgiventobe 200⁰F.
OKPOKORO 13 was completed as a Single String Single (SSS) oil producer with 3-1/2” carbon steel
tubing equipped with Tubing Retrievable Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (TRSCSSSV) and
Baker model-D ESP. Reslink screen was deployed as sand control mechanism across the drain-
hole (10,724 to 10778 ftah) which was displaced to 0.62 psi/ft pseudo-oil based. The annulus and the
tubingis displacedto0.47 psi/ftinhibitedbrine.
Using the charts/curves and tables as contained in the text/materials already provided, answer the
followingquestions:
1. How muchoil (inrate) can flowwithoutartificial lift?
2. If a pump required to boost production to 4000stb/d is chosen, calculate the pump pressure
increase required andthe total headrequired
3. From the charts/curvesprovided,estimatethe total numberof pumpstagesrequired.
4. Calculate the actual workdone by the pumpand deduce the resultantpumpefficiency.
5. If the pumpisdeliveringzeroheadandzerorates, whatis the pumpefficiency?
6. What will be the effectof runningthe pump’smotorbelow itsmaximumcurrentratings?
7. Giventhe actual work done as calculated, determinethe following:
a. Motor speed
b. Motor efficiency
c. Powerfactorof the motor
d. The electrical powermotorinkilowatts(kW)
8. Calculate the apparentpowerandthe phase angle
9. If the wire gauge requiredisgiventobe 1, calculate the following:
a. Wire diameterininches
b. Cable resistance withtemperature
c. Inductive resistance @6o Hz
d. Cable voltage drop/1000ftand the total voltage dropIf the cable lengthis15000ft
e. If a 2260V, 82A is chosen to drive our pump, what is the total volatage requirement
at the surface.
10. What isthe advantage of heatgenerationbythe motor.
