3. Trustees and directors play a key role in the investment decisions
of pension funds, insurance funds and other investment funds.
They are responsible for making sure that funds are run well
and the benefits are secure for the beneficiaries. Their roles are
so important to the delivery of good member outcomes that a
breach of duty can result in the trustee or director being ordered
to make an equitable contribution to the trust.
With regulators and policymakers across the continent and
beyond adopting wide-ranging legislation to promote long-term
investment and to protect investors. It is of vital importance
that trustees and board directors are equipped with the skill-set
required to evaluate the overall fund investment objectives taking
into account the fund’s liabilities, the likely contributions to be
received into the fund and the trustees’ attitude to risk.
