INTRODUCTION TO RAPID PROTOTYPING
Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale
model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided
design (CAD) data. Construction of the part or assembly is usually done
using 3D printing or "additive layer manufacturing" technology
After a thorough process of Rapid Prototyping, such as brain storming ideas,
designing, Software processing we came to the conclusion of this product.
Fused Deposition Modelling
 In Fused Deposition Modeling, a filament of
plastic material from spool is fed through a
heated moving head .
 It melts and extrudes from extruder ,
depositing it, layer after layer, in the desired
shape
 A moving platform that moves in upward and
downward direction.
 lowers after each layer is deposited. For this
kind of 3D printing technology additional
vertical support structures are needed to
sustain overhanging parts
Fused Deposition Material Based 3D Printers
PLA (PolylacticAcid) Material
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a relatively new polymer plastic, made from
biological materials like cornstarch or sugarcane.
It is similar to the material used in biodegradable plastic packaging, which
melts at between 180 and 200 degrees C, depending on other materials that are
added for color and texture.
PLA then quickly cools to form a tough, resilient material with a matte,
opaque quality, but it is not as tolerant of heat as ABS is.
PLA begins to deform at temperatures above 60 degrees C.
PLA is generally the preferred option for low-cost 3D printers, because it is
easier to print with than ABS, as it sticks to other surfaces and itself better.
The material is also biodegradable; like other corn- or sugar-based materials,
it is slowly consumed by many common bacteria. It will last a long time in
normal conditions, though. It's only when buried that it breaks down.

CONCEPT OF PROTOTYPE
The concept of the our product is that, it is a specially
designed cell stand, which can withstand different sizes of
cells with in it.
Cell sizes such as AAA, AA, Button cells etc can be placed
in their respective compartments.
Other electronic components such as Resistors, capacitors ,
ICs , transistors, diodes can be placed in the respective
drawer.
METHODOLOGY OF PROTOTYPE
Steps for rapid prototyping are :
a) pre processing
b) processing
c) post processing
PRE PROCESSING
CAD Software: modelling is done CATIA software.
further it is saved into “.stl” file format.
Cura Software by ultimaker: “.stl” file is loaded into Cura
software.
 dimensions of stand : 64 x 50 x 50.7 mm.
 dimensions of drawer : 48 x 36.6 x 20.1 mm.
1 mm thickness of drawer from inner walls.

Processing
3D Printing based on Fused Deposition Modelling:
 Save Catia file into .stl format.
In Cura file load .stl do necessary settings as per your 3D printer.
file format used : .gcode
 gcode file was fed to 3D printer(Rio smart maker) via SD card
Time required : 2.5 hours
Printing Of Brim at Base for stand Printing Of Supports
3D printing of drawer and its brim
Post processing
Finishing touch for product:
 removing the supports with help of sand paper or flat file tool.
 filing the edges of product for finishing to get smooth curved
surfaces and edges. Polishing with sand paper
 giving product aesthetic look.

Organizing different types of AA and AAA Batteries in
the upper holes.
Drawer can be used for storing Button Cell or Lithium
Ion Batteries.
Small Electronic Components like transistors, MOSFET,
Resistor, OPAMP, etc. can be stored in Drawer.
Also Pen drives, Memory cards, any small Stationery
like Erasers, Pins, Paper Clips, Coins etc. can be also
placed in Drawer

CONCLUSION
We had created new product in market for organizing different
types of Batteries.
It is Multipurpose Holder which can be used to organize many
things.
In Mechanical prototyping we had learnt various methods of
Rapid Prototyping. We also learnt about modelling in Catia as
well as, we used Cura Software for 3D Printing. We also learnt to
operate 3D Printer and its working principles.

3D Printing (Rapid Prototyping Based On Fused deposition Modelling)

INTRODUCTION TO RAPID PROTOTYPING Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. Construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or "additive layer manufacturing" technology After a thorough process of Rapid Prototyping, such as brain storming ideas, designing, Software processing we came to the conclusion of this product.

Fused Deposition Modelling  In Fused Deposition Modeling, a filament of plastic material from spool is fed through a heated moving head .  It melts and extrudes from extruder , depositing it, layer after layer, in the desired shape  A moving platform that moves in upward and downward direction.  lowers after each layer is deposited. For this kind of 3D printing technology additional vertical support structures are needed to sustain overhanging parts
  • 4. Fused Deposition Material Based 3D Printers
  • 5. PLA (PolylacticAcid) Material Polylactic acid (PLA) is a relatively new polymer plastic, made from biological materials like cornstarch or sugarcane. It is similar to the material used in biodegradable plastic packaging, which melts at between 180 and 200 degrees C, depending on other materials that are added for color and texture. PLA then quickly cools to form a tough, resilient material with a matte, opaque quality, but it is not as tolerant of heat as ABS is. PLA begins to deform at temperatures above 60 degrees C. PLA is generally the preferred option for low-cost 3D printers, because it is easier to print with than ABS, as it sticks to other surfaces and itself better. The material is also biodegradable; like other corn- or sugar-based materials, it is slowly consumed by many common bacteria. It will last a long time in normal conditions, though. It's only when buried that it breaks down.
  • 6. PLA (Polylactic Acid) Material Spool

CONCEPT OF PROTOTYPE The concept of the our product is that, it is a specially designed cell stand, which can withstand different sizes of cells with in it. Cell sizes such as AAA, AA, Button cells etc can be placed in their respective compartments. Other electronic components such as Resistors, capacitors , ICs , transistors, diodes can be placed in the respective drawer.
  • 8. METHODOLOGY OF PROTOTYPE Steps for rapid prototyping are : a) pre processing b) processing c) post processing

PRE PROCESSING CAD Software: modelling is done CATIA software. further it is saved into “.stl” file format. Cura Software by ultimaker: “.stl” file is loaded into Cura software.  dimensions of stand : 64 x 50 x 50.7 mm.  dimensions of drawer : 48 x 36.6 x 20.1 mm. 1 mm thickness of drawer from inner walls.

  • 15. Processing 3D Printing based on Fused Deposition Modelling:  Save Catia file into .stl format. In Cura file load .stl do necessary settings as per your 3D printer. file format used : .gcode  gcode file was fed to 3D printer(Rio smart maker) via SD card Time required : 2.5 hours

  • 18. Post processing Finishing touch for product:  removing the supports with help of sand paper or flat file tool.  filing the edges of product for finishing to get smooth curved surfaces and edges. Polishing with sand paper  giving product aesthetic look.

  • 21. Organizing different types of AA and AAA Batteries in the upper holes. Drawer can be used for storing Button Cell or Lithium Ion Batteries. Small Electronic Components like transistors, MOSFET, Resistor, OPAMP, etc. can be stored in Drawer. Also Pen drives, Memory cards, any small Stationery like Erasers, Pins, Paper Clips, Coins etc. can be also placed in Drawer Application of project

CONCLUSION We had created new product in market for organizing different types of Batteries. It is Multipurpose Holder which can be used to organize many things. In Mechanical prototyping we had learnt various methods of Rapid Prototyping. We also learnt about modelling in Catia as well as, we used Cura Software for 3D Printing. We also learnt to operate 3D Printer and its working principles.
