How didyou use newmediatechnologiesinthe constructionand research, planningandevaluation
stages?
During the planning stages of my media product and ancillary texts, I utilised the media platform
bloggerasa place toorganise myplanningandresearchandpresentthemthroughmultiple mediums
such as video, images and slideshows. Blogger also enabled me to organise the process in a logical
order for eachpost and allowedme to share my work to people aroundthe world. This meantthat I
got quite a bit of feedback for my media product through the questionnaires as it was uploaded to
blogger for viewers to answer.
Ialsousedthe editingsoftwareAdobe premiereproformyresearchandplanningandadobepremiere
elements for the construction of my short film. I specifically used adobe premiere pro for the
construction of my storyboard animatic and short film draft early during the planning and research
process.Iutilisedalotof toolsprovidedinAdobePremiereProincludingWarpstabilizer,contrastand
brightness,RGBcurves and sharpnesstool.I usedthese tools,asI wantedto explore the capabilities
of each and see how I could utilise some of these toenhance my footage for the final product of my
shortfilm. AsforAdobe Premiere Elements,IusedthissothatIwasable to dothe editingof the final
productof myshort filmatHome inorderto prioritiseothercourseworkwhenatcollege includingmy
media coursework uploaded on blogger. It provided all the tools I needed that I used in adobe
premiere pro but lacks a few tools; however, I did not require these anyway.
Forthe constructionof myancillarytexts,IusedAdobePhotoshopinordertomanipulatethe contrast
and brightnessof the image takeninmycamera as well asthe coloursthroughusingthe RGB curves.
I alsoensuredthatmyimage wasexposedproperlysothatIwasnotlosingdetail inthe highlightsand
shadows; the tool I used to monitor the exposure levels was the levels tool in Photoshop.
The camera I used for the majority of the final product of my short film and ancillary texts was the
Sonya6000, whichforthe filmwasequippedwitha50mmF1.8 Prime lensforstrongerdynamicrange
and shallow depthof field. The Sonya6000 has an APS-Csensor,whichisasize justbelow FullFrame
and so picks up a lot of detail. This was the primary camera for my short film and was used to take
Adobe Premiere Elements
the final products of the ancillary texts. The other camera that was used was the Canon HF G25
camcorder, whichgot shotsthat were at a particulardistance andrequiredalongerfocal length. The
Canonwasusedforthese asithasafixedWide totelephotolenswitha10x optical zoomwhichmeant
I could get reallyclose to faraway subjects. I also usedthiscamera for the original draft of my short
filmearlyinthe course andforthe BTS (Behindthe Scenes) videotocoincide withthe final productof
my short film.
The image above was shot with the Canon HF G25 and was used prior to starting to use the Sony
a6000. However, because Iwashappy withthe shot I thoughtI shouldkeepitin the final product. It
lacksa shallowdepthof fielddespite itbeingsettoaperture F1.8 and havingan NDfilterat the front
of it, however due to the small sensor size it has a significantly smaller dynamic range to the a6000
sensor size.
Thisshot above wastakenwiththe Sonya6000 and appearsquite cinematicdue tothe contrastand
depthof field aswell asthe camerasvideocapture resolutionof Full 1080p (Full HD).

Shallow Depth of Field
In terms of the other software’s I used to share and present my content I used sites such as Prezi,
YouTube and Slide share as a means of providing different forms of media on blogger. I wanted a
variety of different media presentations in order to enhance the engagement of the audience by
showing a visual representation of what I am discussing rather than just paragraphs of text to read
but no evidence of the work.
WhenusingYouTube Iuploadedallthe videocontentIhadcapturedontothissiteandeach isavailable
as a publicfilesocanbe viewedbyanyonewhogoestomychannel aswellasbeingavailabletowatch
on blogger.
As for Prezi and slide share I implemented text, images and videos from YouTube that I found to
support my writing. These helped to be more engaging as they had fun transitions across different
bubbles for where each section of the topic would be.
Sony a6000 sensor
Canon HF G25
For sound, I used a number of technologies including a RODE NTG-2 directional microphone, Zoom
H4N recorder and headphones to monitor the sound.
All the sound equipment was used in the construction of my short film and also during the post-
production stage as well. All the dialogue was recorded live and some sound effects of the match
strikes were captured in post-production.
Whenusingthe NTG-2,Ihadtoensure thatIbroughtbackup batteriesforitincase one runsout. The
NTG-2 and recorder that I used both require alkaline batteries and can last up to 8 hours with these
batteries as opposed to when I tested Zinc batteries as these only lasted 10 minutes.
I used the recorder in the image below to record the sound format which for me was recorded as
stereoandexportedthemaswaveformfiles. Thesefileswererecordedinthe highestpossiblequality
of 24bit 94hz meaning a larger file due to higher bitrate but higher quality sound as a result. These
were thenimportedusingthe 2GBSD card fromthe recorderand insertedintomylaptopsharddrive
through the SD card slot.
Forpost-production,IusedanAcerLaptopwhichhadanAMD 10 processorforfastprocessingspeeds
when rendering my footage, 2 Terabyte hard drive for plenty of storage for my content and a Full
1080p displaysothat I can viewmyfootage inits true resolutionandgetthe bestimpressionof how
my footage will look once exported for viewing.
