WHY KAZAKHSTAN
• Kazakhstan embarked on the green economy.
The Concept of the transition of the Republic of
Kazakhstan to the “green” economy was
approved that is an incentive to the creation of
new, environmentally-oriented and cost
effective industries. The transition to the green
economy is intended to address the issues of
energy efficiency and alternative energy
development, improvement of air quality,
sustainable use of water and land resources,
and effective management of all types of waste
• Ministry of Energy of the Republic of
Kazakhstan is working on implementing the
principle of extended producer responsibility
(EPR) in order to cover a part of the costs of
collection and recycling of packaging waste,
electronic and electrical equipment, motor
vehicles and their components, and other
products after use within the scope of the
transition to the green economy.
• The total amount of solid waste accumulated in
Kazakhstan is about 100 million tons and
herewith about 6.5 million tons of solid wastes
are already produced annually. Already by 2025
that figure could rise to 8 million tons.
• In 2014, the State program of modernization of
solid waste management system in the 2014
2050 years has been approved. Target
