Youth for Justice Project
Question: How can we help Greensview Elementary with the problem of
relational aggression in a way that educates everyone about relational aggression,
reduces relational aggression, and teaches students how to be good friends.
Solution: Create a team of students, called the P.R.I.D.E.Team.
Students on the team will have the following characteristics:
• good problem solver who likes solving problems
• demonstrates PRIDE every day, especially...
> trustworthiness
> kindness
> empathy
• enjoys working with others
• is not involved in another leadership role at Greensview, like Student Council
Students will be chosen for the team using the following procedure:
• At the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Kunkle (counselor) provides information
about the team to all students and teachers in grades 3-5.
• Interested students complete an application, including a checklist and problem-
solving scenarios.
• Classroom teachers and Mrs. Kunkle look at the applications and vote on students.
The team will be made up of 7-14 members.
The team will have the following responsibilities:
2014-2015 School Year and Beyond
1. Works with school counselor to create a Town Meeting program to educate students
about being a good friend and about relational aggression.
2. Works with school counselor to plan and present friendship lessons to students in
grades K-2
3. Provides resources (surveys, pamphlets, websites) to students and teachers
2015-2016 School Year and Beyond
1. Goes through student mediator training with school counselor. Helps peers mediate
conflicts.
