Unit 6: We Need Trees
BREATH: the air that goes into and out of
your lungs
FUEL: a substance which is used to provide
heat or power, usually by being burned
HELPFUL: willing to help, or useful
MATERIAL: a physical substance which
things can be made from
PLANT: a living thing which grows in earth, in
water or on other plants, and usually has a stem,
leaves, roots and flowers and produces seeds
PRODUCE: to make something or bring
something into existence
PROVIDE: to give someone something that
they need
SEED: a small round or oval object produced by a
plant and from which, when it is planted, a new
plant can grow
SHADE: slight darkness caused by something
blocking the direct light from the sun
WOOD: a hard substance which forms the
branches and trunks of trees and which can be
used as a building material, for making things, or
as a fuel
