William Butler Yeats was an Irish nationalist poet who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923. Some of his poems discuss a woman with yellow hair and young men despairing over her because of her hair color alone rather than who she is. In the poems, the woman considers dyeing her hair but is told by a religious man that only God could love her for herself rather than her yellow hair.
