The Problem:
• 92.3% of India’s population does not have access to credit from a
formal financial institution (source: MFI State of Sector report)
• Most MFIs have largely focused on scaling wide and not deep
leading to a natural exclusion of the poorest of the poor.
How do you then:
• Reach the poor on the fringes, esp. first time borrowers?
• Lower cost of borrowing so that we can offer them affordable
micro-credit?
3. About Rang De
• Found in 2008, based in Bangalore ; 21 FTE.
• Founders and co-CEO’s – Ramakrishna NK & Smita Ramakrishna ;
who lived in UK for 4 years before starting Rang De in India.
• Based on a non-profit and a social enterprise model with the
minimum amount of loan contribution at Rs 100 and typical loan
size for enterpreneurs between Rs 5000-15000 for purposes such
as cow-rearing, vegetable plantation, education loans etc.
• Based on model combining microfinance, peer-to-peer lending
and crowdfunding.
