2. Overview
What is Green Cement?
Why Green cement and not OPC?
What are types of Green Cement ?
Scope of Green cement
Scenario of Green Cement production?
3. What is Green Cement?
A cementitious material that meets or exceeds the functional
performance and capabilities of OPC by incorporating and optimising
recycled materials.
Green Cement is environment friendly cement.
4. Why Green Cement?(NOT OPC)
Green Cement OPC
0 to 0.1 tonne CO2 is only
emitted
1 tonne emitting same amount of CO2 in
atmosphere
Can be reduced to 0%
6% to 9% of total human made CO2
emission
Raw materials are sustainable Raw materials not sustainable
No use of CO2 machine Carbon emitting machinery
Raw materials can be reused Raw materials cannot be reused
5. Types
Ekkomaxx Cement (CeraTech, USA): composed of 95% fly ash and 5% renewable liquid additives.
Magnesium Oxychloride Cement: produced from magnesium oxide (MgO) powder and a concentrated solution of magnesium chloride (MgCl2) which
are byproducts of magnesium mining. (Disadvantages)
Ferrocrete: Ferrocrete cement is manufactured by mixing silica and iron which are waste byproducts from steel and glass industry.
Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement : The calcium sulfoaluminate cement is produced of a kiln that requires a temperature of 1232.2C (2250F) rather than
1426.6 (2500F) of conventional cement. As a result, less CO2 would be released into the atmosphere.
Sequestrated Carbon Cement: The Calera Corp. cement in California produced cement from seawater or brine mixed with CO2 that may be used as a
Portland cement substitute.
Cement Produced with Reactive Hydrothermal Liquid-phase Densification: This type of cement is produced using the same raw materials as
ordinary Portland cement, but at lower temperature and through different chemical reaction that produces less CO2 compared with traditional Portland
cement production process.
Cement Produced Using Superheated Steam: The process of superheated steam can be used to change the cement particles in order to make them
more reactive. In this process, the emitted CO2 can be captured after it has been separated.
Geopolymer Cement: waste material containing aluminosilicate mineral such as Fly ash, granulated blast furnace slag, rice husk ash, clay, etc.
when treated with alkali solutions give geopolymer cement.
6. Scope
Green taxes can be levied on traditionally produced cement, raising OPC prices by two times.
Reduction of about 40% in Carbon Footprint.
Better Performance/More Sustainable.
Not use of over priced machines.
Raw materials can be reused after the demolition.
