GSSCHAMPIONS PROGRAMME
• Global Sustainable Sport has now launched its GSS
Champions of Sustainability Programme, based on its
innovative new sustainability framework, the “GSS
Sustainable Pillars of Sport”.
• The aim of the Programme is to help every sports
organisation, federation, team, league, club, event, venue,
host city, nation, brand, broadcaster, and supplier become a
“Champion of Sustainability”. It is both aspirational and
inclusive.
• Global Sustainable Sport is now inviting organisations
from all over the world to participate in the GSS Survey
and join the Programme, which will include a full evaluation of
their activities at the end of 2023.
• The Programme will conclude with a series of reports
published in spring 2024 analysing the data gathered from the
GSS survey and the programme and an awards programme
and event.

• GSS together with its academic partners has
developed a standard framework that aims
to capture the true value of sport.
• The framework has been designed by
combining different ESG frameworks and
other reporting methods.
• The GSS framework has been defined as the
seven “GSS Sustainable Pillars of Sport”.
• Each organisation, or event, will be
assessed across the seven Pillars.
• Each organisation or event that participates in
the Programme will appear on the GSS
Champions of Sustainability map showing
sustainable sports organisations and events
globally.

featuring data, organisations and events
who participate in the Programme from
around the world.
• GSS will publish a Summary Global Report,
a more Detailed Global Report and a series
of Regional, National and Sport Reports.
• The Summary Global Report will provide a
summary of each pillar and the key findings
of the survey.
• The full Detailed Global Report will provide
in-depth analysis of the pillars by region,
nation, sport, and sector with case studies
and features.
• Regional, National and Sport Reports will be
published on different regions of the world
and various nations and sports.

GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE SPORT AWARDS
• To celebrate all the great achievements by the sports industry around sustainability in
2023, GSS will organise an awards evening and event in Spring 2024.
• This will recognise the leading “Champion” organisations, events and individuals.
• Organisations will come from all sectors of the sports industry and individuals will
include athletes, coaches, officials, professionals, practitioners and academics.
• The awards programme will be supported by an event focused on all aspects of
sustainability.

that is needed to understand the most
important aspects of sport and
sustainability, helping individuals and
organisations to become GSS
Champions of Sustainability.
• The self-paced, online programme
will equip sustainability managers,
senior execs, and industry
professionals with an insight into
sustainability, with essentials as well
as in-depth views – delivered by
industry experts.
• The programme allows for a
customised curriculum approach
allowing individuals or organisations
to create their own programmes of
workshops & modules or to sign up to

• The Core Modules are built upon one
another providing a solid roadmap to
follow.
• The Deep Dive modules see industry
experts provide insights into some of
the most relevant areas of
sustainability in sport.

quizzes, or podcasts.
• Workshops are organised throughout
the year, involving industry experts
sharing their knowledge and
experience across each of the
seven sustainable pillars.
